Abstract

Background: Plantar fasciitis is the one of musculoskeletal disorders that causes heel pain due to repetitive stress, leading to inflammation of the plantar fascia. Effective rehabilitation is essential for recovery from this condition. Gait analysis in plantar fasciitis cases is an intriguing aspect to be studied using biomechanical principles. Additionally, it serves as the basis for providing strengthening exercises for the lower limbs, which play a crucial role in supporting the recovery process of plantar fasciitis. Objective: This article aims to review how biomechanical gait analysis and strengthening exercises contribute to the recovery of plantar fasciitis and to identify rehabilitation mechanisms based on the latest scientific evidence. Methods: This narrative review analyzes literature from the past 10 years related to biomechanical gait analysis and strengthening exercises using the PICO framework (Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome). Literature searches were conducted using PubMed, Science Direct, Scopus, and PEDro. Results: From the search across four databases, several relevant journals were identified that indicated a relationship between biomechanical gait analysis and strengthening exercises for the recovery of plantar fasciitis. Conclusion: Biomechanical gait analysis and strengthening exercises can optimize the recovery of plantar fasciitis. Keywords: Biomechanical Gait Analysis; Plantar Fasciitis; Rehabilitation; Strengthening Exercises

Abstract

Plantar fasciitis is the most common cause due to inflammation or degeneration of the plantar fascia. This condition can affect work productivity and disrupt functional abilities. One of the physiotherapy programs to improve functional activity in plantar fasciitis is by providing neurokinetic exercise. The purpose of this study is to present evidence related to the effectiveness of neurokinetic exercise in improving functional activity in plantar fasciitis. The method used in this study is a narrative review using the PICO framework (Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome). Journal searches were conducted using PubMed, Science Direct, Scopus, and PEDro. The search results from the 4 databases were based on keywords that had been adjusted. Article selection was done using the PRISMA flowchart, followed by the article assessment stage using critical appraisal and compiling narrative review results. Based on the article search results with reference criteria of the last 5 years, 26 articles were obtained. After screening based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, 10 journals were found to be relevant to the topic, mentioning that neurokinetic exercise can improve functional activity in plantar fasciitis. It is concluded that neurokinetic exercise is effective in improving functional activity in plantar fasciitis. Keywords: Neurokinetic exercise; Functional activity; Plantar fasciitis

Abstract

Background: Balance in the elderly declines with age, increasing the risk of falls. Exercises such as single leg stance and ankle strategy exercise can help, but their effectiveness needs further investigation. Comparing the effects of latihan berdiri satu kaki and latihan strategi ankle on balance improvement in the elderly. Methods: This quasi-experimental study used a pretest-posttest group design involving 20 elderly participants from Panti Werdha Wisma Mulia, divided into two groups (10 participants each). The first group performed single leg stance, while the second group performed ankle strategy exercise. Balance was measured using the Functional Reach Test (FRT). Results: Single leg stance significantly improved balance (p ≤ 0.001), with a mean ± SD increase from 10.20 ± 2.394 to 12.80 ± 3.120. Ankle strategy exercise was more effective (p ≤ 0.001), increasing balance from 12.00 ± 3.590 to 19.20 ± 4.517. Independent T-test showed a significant difference (p = 0.001), with ankle strategy exercise having a greater effect. Conclusion: Ankle strategy exercise is more effective than single leg stance in improving balance in the elderly and can serve as a better intervention to reduce the risk of falls. Keywords: Single Leg Stance; Ankle Strategy Exercise; Balance; Functional Reach Test

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Elementary school children aged 10-12 years experience a decrease in endurance such as lack of sports activity. At this age physiological changes occur (the body's metabolic system begins to adjust to greater energy needs). Decreased endurance can affect health, cognitive and concentration while learning. To increase endurance, the intervention given is Rhythmic Auditory Stimulation (RAS) and High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). Objective: To determine the effect and difference of rhythmic auditory stimulation (RAS) and high intensity interval training (HIIT) on increasing endurance in elementary school students. Methods: This study used quasi experimental method with pre and post two group design. A total of 30 samples were determined using purposive sampling technique. The sample was divided into 2 groups of 15 respondents each with the intervention of Rhythmic Auditory Stimulation (RAS) and High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). Exercise is carried out for 4 weeks with a frequency of training 3 times a week. The measuring instrument used was the Harvard Step Test. Normality test using Saphiro-wilk test. Homogeneity test using lavene test, hypothesis test I and II using paired sample t-test, and hypothesis test III using Independent sample t-test. Results: The results of hypothesis tests I and II using paired sample t-test obtained p = 0.000 (p <0.05). While the third hypothesis test using independent sample t-test obtained a value of p = 0.000 (p <0.05). Conclusion: There is an effect and difference in rhythmic auditory stimulation (RAS) and high intensity interval training (HIIT) on increasing endurance in elementary school students. Keywords: Endurance; Senam Rhytmic Auditory Stimulation (RAS), High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT); Harvard Step Test; Elementary School Students
