Abstract

This study explores the lexical density of an English reading text designed for 11th-grade vocational high school students, with the aim of evaluating its suitability for educational use. Lexical density refers to the ratio of content words to the total number of words in a text, which serves as an indicator of text complexity and information load. The study uses a qualitative descriptive approach, supported by content analysis, to measure lexical density in four paragraphs discussing historical topics: the Black Death, the Industrial Revolution, and the First World War. The findings indicate a consistently high lexical density across all four paragraphs, ranging from 51.05% to 53.13%. This indicates that the text contains a significant proportion of content words, reflecting an appropriate level of academic rigor for vocational high school students. Despite the high lexical density, the text remains clear and easy to read due to its manageable grammatical structure. These results align with previous research, which suggests that a lexical density between 40% and 60% is suitable for learning texts. The study concludes that the analyzed reading text is a valuable educational resource. This reading effectively balances information richness with accessibility, supporting vocabulary development, reading comprehension, and academic literacy. These findings highlight the importance of lexical density as a linguistic feature and pedagogical tool in the evaluation and design of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) reading materials.

Abstract

The limitations of learning media cause the learning process carried out at SMP Negeri 1 Gondang to only rely on teachers who use lecture methods with sources from textbooks. This results in students not understanding the material presented. This study aims to develop Augmented Reality learning media for seventh grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Gondang. This research is a type of development research, using the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation) because the development stages are arranged in a programmed manner with a systematic sequence of activities. The process of developing Augmented Reality learning media was developed using the Unity application. In this study there are validity tests from media experts and material experts as well as field tests in small groups and large groups. The validation results from media experts are 84.7% included in the very appropriate category, while the results of material experts are 95.8% and included in the very appropriate category. After obtaining the validity results, they are then tested on students. The small group obtained results of 93.8% which are included in the very appropriate category, while the large group obtained results of 90% which means that the experiment is included in the very appropriate category.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the evaluation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) learning for class VII students in the context of the Merdeka Curriculum at SMPN 3 Payakumbuh. The research method used was descriptive qualitative with class VII student participants. Data was collected through direct observation, especially during the Mid-Term Examination (UTS) on November 29, 2023. Evaluation results include students' average scores and grouping of scores into categories. Analysis shows that a number of students need increased enthusiasm for learning, with the highest percentage in the very high category. The research conclusions emphasize the need for additional guidance and the role of parents in improving student preparation before learning activities. Learning evaluation also highlights that the quality of learning still needs to be considered so that it is in line with the expectations of the Independent Curriculum. Therefore, collaboration between schools, teachers and parents needs to be improved to ensure optimal student preparation and learning outcomes, especially in the implementation of the Independent Curriculum.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to develop VideoScribe instructional media covering the topic of the importance of the position and function of Pancasila in state life for eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 14 Palangka Raya, as well as to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the development process. This study employed the Research and Development (R&D) method. The researcher utilized the Borg and Gall development model to create YouTube-based learning media, proceeding through stages of validation, field testing, and revision. The study was conducted at SMPN 14 Palangka Raya. The developed learning media was deemed valid and suitable for use based on evaluations by subject matter experts and media experts. The assessment of material experts produced an average score of 26.5 which is categorized as very good, while the assessment of media experts produced an average score of 38 which is categorized as very good. The average of the two scores is 32.25, which is included in the very good category, thus, the VideoScribe media is declared valid. The VideoScribe learning media addressing the position and function of Pancasila in state life is classified as highly suitable media.

Abstract

Cancer and Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) are serious health problems whose early detection is often hampered by limited access and awareness. This research aims to develop a website-based expert system as a solution to help the public perform an initial diagnosis of cancer and GERD independently. The system development methodology includes a requirements analysis phase, data flow design using DFD and ERD, and implementation using Visual Studio Code with programming languages such as Python and JavaScript, along with a MySQL database. The result of this research is a functional web-based expert system equipped with various features, including user registration, a structured diagnostic questionnaire for cancer and GERD, a diagnosis result page complete with recommendations, and a statistics module for data visualization. This system successfully provides an easily accessible platform for initial diagnosis, despite having limitations related to accuracy, which depends on user input. In conclusion, this expert system has the potential to be an effective initial screening tool for increasing awareness and accelerating the management of these two diseases.
