Abstract

Computer or Personal Computer (PC) based data acquisition system had enabled the measurement of physical parameters, not only to display and store them in the computer but also to send them to a website. Twitter as one of web services for social media that provides the facility to display 140-character length of text status has been deemed sufficient for the purpose of displaying the latest data and is accessible through available Application Programming Interface (API). The purpose of this research is to design a PC-based data acquisition system which is capable to conduct measurement, storage and transmission of data to the web service via Twitter API. The proposed system was consisted of LM35 temperature sensor to measure room temperature, Arduino Nano microcontroller and a data acquisition application in PC to display and store data in a Comma-Separated Values (CSV) file. Based on test results for processes involving Analog to Digital Converter (ADC), the obtained error is 3.71% for voltage value and the average difference between measured values and displayed ones is 0.01 V. Average error for temperature measurement is 5.13% and the difference between measured values and the displayed ones is 1.34°C. Built application had produced an adequate display of interface and fulfilled all required functionalities. Average response time of Twitter API to Choreo is 0.18 s while average time to transmit data from application to Twitter is 2.15 s or 11.75 times longer. In later development, LM35 should be replaced with a more precise sensor. The occurrence of randomness in measurement results could be minimized by adding an active filter circuit between sensor and microcontroller.

Abstract

The fossil energy sources dwindling due to the many needs, especially in industrial and automotive sectors which are the largest energy users and the highest waste heat-producing. This causes many alternative energy sources are developing, included thermal energy utilization. The research utilized waste heat energy from motorcycle exhaust pipe into electrical energy with using Thermo Electric Generator (TEG). By using the thermocouple principle, difference of temperature between hot and cold side of TEG resulted voltage. Testing was conducted with three points are on head, body and mouth of the exhaust pipe. The maximum output voltage is generated in the head is greater than the other positions. At the head of exhaust, the maximum output voltage which is generated by 1 modul, 2 modules and 3 modules of TEG on each other is 1.26 V, 2.27 V and 3.43 V respectively.

Abstract

High traffic densitiy  becomes one of a big problem of transportation in many big developing cities in Indonesia. The growth number of vehicles relatively much higher if compared to the growth of road infrastructure. Banda Aceh as a central city of Aceh Province are also facing moreless the same transportation problem,where traffic becomes very usual especially in peak hour in the morning when many people start their activity. It also happened in the afternoon when most of Banda Aceh people especially the one who work as a government servant going back from work. This research is trying to analyze one of the case of daily going to work travel route of Unsyiah administration staf. The result is very important to analyze the best departure time for the staff to minimize travel time. This research have developed a simulation model using an IT technology based on vehicle traffic mobility model. The simulation offered the fastest travel time solution with the best departure time to arrive at the destination by avoiding morning peak time traffic.

Abstract

A bridge is planned and built with a certain capability against vehicles through it. The vehicles movement causes vibration and vertical deflection on certain parts of the bridge. If the vibration occurs continuously in a great value, then the bridge will be damaged sooner than had been planned. This research reports a design of a vertical deflection measuring system prototype on bridge, employing an accelerometer MMA7361 sensor which is controlledby ATmega32. The system was tested by manually loading the trial bridge with 1 m of length. The loading deflects down the bridge to maximum 15 cm from the reference point. Sensor readout data was sent wirelessly using ZigBee real time to computer in a graphical display for easy analysis. The research give an alternative method in vertical deflection measuring on the bridge that can be utilized by stakeholder in policy decision.

Abstract

Fishing ground or fishing zone is a waters area which become a destination for fishing. Theprediction of fishing zone can be done by detecting chlorophyll-a and sea surface temperature distribution of Aqua MODIS Imagery. The aim of this study is to predict fishing zone on the waters of Pulo Aceh based on the chlorophyll distribution and sea surface temperature by utilizing the data of Aqua MODIS Satellite Imagery level 3. The stages of this study included collecting imagery, cutting the image according to the desired area, giving lands mark to display a more informative image, extracting information of chlorophyll-a and the distribution of sea surface temperature, and interpolating by using Kriging method. The highest distribution of chlorophyll-a happened in June and August, the spread moved from the the North Pulo Aceh to the South. The distribution of sea surface temperature that suitable for fishing was detected in August around the North Ujung Pulo Breuh and around pulau Keureusik. The potential zone of fishing on the waters of Pulo Aceh was only detected in August in the eastern of pulau Keureusik to Ujong Keumuroh. Pulo Aceh waters is suitable for fishing destination in August.
