Abstract

Abstract

The paper brings Iris Murdochs article, The Idea of Perfection, of which three frames of ideas, Platoethics, inner experience, and moral concept were discussed. The goal of the idea of perfection isreaching Perfection by cultivating the inner experience which the social behaviorists challenged the notion of inner experience as the core role. It is not tangible, therefore it is meaningless. Besidesinner experience, Murdochs premise lies in morality, which is a magnetic but inexhaustible reality.Although no one can reach Perfection, it remains a measure of which human would direct theirlives and how far it will be for one can get close to it. Murdoch proposes love for it is capable forprogressive attempt to see a particular object clearly. The ways of love are understood in the moralcontext, therefore, the choice of which is arbitrary in a sense that they remain as effort to be just andimpartial. Moreover, in the political realm, the effort is challenged at its hardest, but again, the innerexperience, moral choice, and compassion are a possibility. The idea of perfection is practiced in orderthat the concept becomes a standard of operation in ones life. Thus, the cultivation of the ideal ofperfection is a continuing inner exercise.

Abstract

It is a study of the Indonesian airline policy and the need of developing market for air traffic. Theresearch is taken through the written policies of the heads of state and the ministers of communicationfrom 1950 to the reformation era, and the interinsular flight schedules that were developed throughoutthe time. The primary objective of an understanding of an archipelagic conception of air communicationhas become the major concern of the independent republic of Indonesia since its independence in1945.It was to maintain a strategic consideration for national purpose. The result of which, the effort ofthe transfer of the colonial airline system, the KLM, to the Indonesian national airline, the GIA, wassuccessfully achieved. As the national air traffic was subsidized by thegovernment, the commercial linewas partly subsidized for a national security reason to control the air traffic. Therefore, the Indonesianair transportation is to bridge the need for integrating the archipelago for effort of ethnic integration and for a national unity in a wide-spread region, despite the need for profit. However, some commercialendeavors have been initiated in the post-Soeharto era, which resulted a breakdown ofcertain airlinecompanies. Facing the globalization, the policy would accommodate the air traffic businesses to developtheir facilities for fulfilling the demand of regional welfare, but yet to increasing the supervision of thenational policy on archipelagic stability.

Abstract

An American philosopher, Thomas Samuel Kuhn (1922-1996) in his books, The Structure of Scientific Revolution (1962) and The Essential Tension; Selected Studies in Scientific Tradition and Change (1977) poses a paradigm of a universal foundation of science which uses a common fact, method, language and criteria. He does not think that even in the realm of the natural sciences, there are differences, more so that there is a paradigm in the humanities including the arts and literature. Kuhn, however, has established a new paradigm for the philosophy of science which he called “the sociology of science” or a social construction, which now is popular as a constructive paradigm. It is developed in the Critical Theory of Adorno, Horkheimer, and Habermas, and in the Postmodern Theory of Lyotard, Derrida, Foucault, and Baudrillard. The paradigm of the social-political and cultural discourses of the seventies, has developed from structuralism of Saussure and Levi Strauss to post-structuralism or deconstructionism of Jacques Derrida and Paul de Mann referring to contemporary or postmodern era. It rejects stable understanding, logocentrism, antibinary, and gives readers ways to understand a text. The methods used is interpretative paradigm, such as philology, Marxist, new historicism, structuralism, psychoanalysis, theory of acceptance, semiotics, deconstruction, and discourse analysis.

Abstract

The research deals with the region in the two-area Kalimantan/Borneo border with Malaysia; in the east, Nunukan, and in the west, Entikong. The border problem rises when a geopolitical interest of Indonesia and Malaysia overwhelms the traditional ways of farming and trade that have existed even before the British and Dutch colonial governments executed their administrative systems by dividing them into security and prosperity belts, despite the existing active roles of local authorities to manage their resources. Now, the heritage of the rich natural resources and the mobile population, becomes a major issue of dispute. The available resources, such as fish, coal and gold; crops, such as chocolate, nutmeg and rubber; prospective reservation areas for tourism, such as the Indonesian national parks in Danau Sentarum, Gunung Niut, and Betung Karihun, become a vulnerable target for exploitation. These crucial zones have been a part of an intricate interwoven eco-region. The paper uses the colonial British and Dutch archieves and other literature to describe the historic conflict of interest for exploitation and extraction of the resources, and the post-independent sources which talked about the endless Malaysian intrusions faced by the Indonesian government.

Abstract

The paper is about the historical efforts made by the Chinese Qing dynasty up to the current government to bond the Chinese overseas throughout the world to funnel their financial gain to the homeland. It shows that the policy to take advantage of the Chinese overseas to send their revenues to develop China, was adopted even during the nationalist governments. However, the analysis poses the strong reason of the tie of the Chinese overseas to the homeland, that it was not only given just for its financial support, but that it has been generated by a strong sense of cultural connectedness. On the other hand, although, culturally, the Chinese are attached to their cultural heritage, efforts to force the Chinese overseas to continually support the homeland were not that successful. In the nineteenth century, the Chinese in Indonesia during the colonial time, have been granted by the emperor, a double citizenship. But after the Mao downfall, some of the Southeast Asia countries, including Indonesia, has opposed communism in the region, thus rejected the policy. The republic of Deng finally revoked the doublecitizenship policy and as a result, encouraged promotion of teaching Chinese language overseas and sending scholars to study abroad.
