Abstract

The construction of the next imagined-village as a part of the next imagined-Indonesia evokes the need of a new genre on embedding the culture of development and the culture of civil-village. The article presents an "Until-Where" genre (on where the aims of development are reached). In the genre, praxis orientation becomes a context of both cultural analysis and social structure. The deconstructive critique of the culture of development is focused on Kantian humanism, evolutionism and development planning, the politics of space, and capitalization on village development. Co-articulation between the culture of development (which has the tendency for uniformity) and the culture of civil-village (which has the tendency for variation) is constructed, firstly, on toleration between the stake-holders for social transformation. Then the article proposes "Praxis of Familiation", i.e. imagination on the family structure as a translation process for external influence. Focused on the lower stratum, the familiation should be used to empower the lowest one.

Abstract

In 1947, the Republic of Indonesia (RI) sent a diplomatic mission to seek the international community's acknowledgement for the nation's independence. The mission in the Arab nations, particularly in Egypt, was severely challenged by the Netherlands. However, with a spirit of solidarity, the people and government of Egypt supported the struggle and acknowledged RI's independence, de facto and de jure. Diplomacy was implemented in maintaining RI's sovereignty which was threatened to be retaken by the Netherlands. Meanwhile, the struggles in military area were maintained to dissipate the Netherlands from Indonesia.

Abstract

This article proposes to investigate how Gandhi developed the idea of humanistic nationalism and what the component of this idea is. Using the historical and political approaches, the investigation shows that Gandhian's nationalism reveals the relationship between religious aspiration, political ethic and the ideal economic and political institutions. Chronologically, this study describes Gandhi's leaderships in South Africa (1893-1914) and India (1915-1948), the basic orientation of Gandhi's thought and lastly explains the concept of humanistic nationalism. Briefly, the components of humanistic nationalism are the ideas of Hind Swaraj, Nation, Sarvodaya, Khadi Economic, Ramrajya and Panchayat Raj. Behind all those concepts is Ahimsa, the principle of no harm which emphasizes and teaches about love and non-violence. Both attributes are used as weapons by Gandhi's Satyagraha movement. Ahimsa is also the core of Gandhian political ethic and lies on his ideal economic and political institutions. By this moral effect of Ahimsa, we could easily identify Gandhi's nationalism with the unique character called humanistic.

Abstract

1998 was the year of Mandarin teaching resurrection in Indonesia after 30 years prohibited. Since then, many schools begin to teach Mandarin as an extracurricular subject. Nowadays, suddenly Mandarin teachers, student's book was highly needed. Many schools use Singapore/Taiwan's book. This rises problems, because Singapore/Taiwan's students language circumstance is different from Indonesian students. The result is far from what we expected. This article proposed some aids based on the need of Indonesian's student. Department of Education should set up a team consisting of Indonesian experts in Mandarin language teaching and Chinese linguistic to compile syllabus, student's book. It should base on Indonesian Language Politics and the need of Indonesian's student which differ from Chinese schools 30 years ago.
