Abstract

Introduction: Motivation is essential in improving medication adherence in hypertensive patients. Non-adherence to medication is often a significant obstacle in the management of high blood pressure, leading to an increased risk of serious complications such as heart disease and stroke. This study analyzes the relationship between patients' motivation levels and adherence to hypertension treatment regimens. Methods: The research design used is descriptive-analytical with a cross-sectional approach to hypertensive patients in a health clinic. Data were collected through questionnaires that measured motivation and adherence to medication. Results: The results of the analysis showed that patients with high motivation had better compliance levels than those with low motivation (p < 0.05). Contributing motivational factors include family support, understanding of the benefits of treatment, and confidence in managing the hypertension condition. Conclusions: Strong motivation plays a significant role in improving medication adherence in hypertensive patients, so health workers need to strengthen the motivational aspect of patient education and counseling programs. This is expected to help reduce the risk of complications and improve the quality of life of hypertensive patients.

Abstract

Introduction: Obesity has been identified as one of the main risk factors contributing to the increase in hypertension cases, particularly among the elderly. This study aims to analyze the role of obesity in increasing the risk of hypertension in the elderly by examining the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and blood pressure. Methods: This research uses a cross-sectional design, an analytical study that studies the causes of incidents or incidents. Data collection uses a questionnaire. The sample in this study was 64 elderly hypertensive patients in the working data analysis using the chi-square test. Results: This study's results indicate a relationship between obesity (p=0.000) and the incidence of hypertension in the elderly working. The results showed that the elderly with obese status had a significantly higher risk of hypertension compared to the elderly with average weight. Conclusions: These findings underscore the importance of preventing and treating obesity in the elderly to reduce the risk of hypertension and other health complications. This research is expected to contribute to formulating health policies and hypertension prevention programs among the elderly through a practical weight management approach

Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension in pregnancy is one of the severe complications and is the leading cause of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. Risk factors for hypertension in pregnancy include various aspects, including exposure to cigarette smoke, which has a detrimental impact on the mother and fetus. This study aims to analyze the impact of exposure to cigarette smoke as a risk factor for hypertension in pregnancy. Methods: The design of observational analytical research with a cross-sectional design uses point-time, observation, or data collection methods to examine the relationship dynamics between impact risk factors. The dependent variable of this study is the prevalence of hypertension in pregnant women. The number of samples was 128 people using the purposive sampling technique. Results: The results of the study showed that pregnant women who were exposed to cigarette smoke, both active and passive, had a higher risk of developing hypertension compared to mothers who were not exposed. Harmful components in cigarette smoke, such as nicotine and carbon monoxide, play a role in raising blood pressure through vasoconstriction mechanisms and oxidative stress, which aggravate the workload of the heart and circulatory system. Conclusions: These findings show the need for prevention and education efforts to reduce exposure to cigarette smoke in pregnant women, to reduce the incidence of hypertension in pregnancy, and improve the health of mothers and babies. With this information, it is hoped that health workers and the public can be more aware of the dangers of cigarette smoke during pregnancy and strive for a smoke-free environment for pregnant women.

Abstract

Introduction: Depression is a prevalent psychological issue among the elderly, often exacerbated by isolation and various physical and mental health challenges. As a non-pharmacological intervention, music therapy has shown potential in alleviating depressive symptoms. This study examines the effectiveness of listening to nostalgic songs in reducing depression among elderly residents. Methods: This study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. A total of 28 elderly participants who met the inclusion criteria were selected from a population of 43 individuals. The participants underwent a 20-minute intervention of listening to nostalgic songs, conducted six times over two weeks. Depression levels were measured using the Geriatric Depression Scale-15 (GDS-15) before and after the intervention. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon test in SPSS version 25 to determine the significance of the intervention's effects. Results: The analysis revealed a significant reduction in depression levels after the intervention, with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant difference between pretest and posttest depression scores. This finding suggests that nostalgic music therapy effectively reduces depressive symptoms among elderly participants. Conclusions: The results support the hypothesis that listening to nostalgic songs can serve as an effective intervention for reducing depression in the elderly. Nostalgic music therapy can be considered a beneficial non-pharmacological approach to enhancing the psychological well-being of elderly individuals. Future studies with control groups and larger sample sizes are recommended to validate these findings further

Abstract

Introduction: Self-medication is the practice of using drugs without a doctor's prescription to overcome minor health problems, one of which is analgetic drugs to reduce pain. Although self-medication can improve the accessibility of medications, improper use can be risky for the patient's health. Adequate knowledge of the types, dosages, and ways of using analgesic medications is essential to ensure effectiveness and avoid adverse side effects. This study aims to evaluate the level of patient knowledge about analgetic drug self-medication. Methods: This study uses a quantitative design with a survey approach. Data was collected through a questionnaire distributed to 81 patients who visited the pharmacy. Results: The results of this study indicate that the percentage of respondents' answers is 8.091%. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the level of patient knowledge about self-medication of analgtic drugs is in a good category. Conclusions: The results showed that the majority of patients had sufficient knowledge about the indications and dosage of analgetic drugs, but there was a gap in understanding of potential side effects and drug interactions. This indicates the need for more intensive health education regarding self-medication, especially in the use of analgesic drugs, to reduce the risk of inappropriate use
