Abstract

The film Meraih Mimpi is one of the animated films that is the pride of the Indonesian film industry. This film is the first three-dimensional (30) wide-screen animated film in Indonesia by local children produced by Infinite Frameworks (IFW), an animation studio based in Batam. This study examines illocutionary speech acts. The researcher used the animated film “Meraih Mimpi” as a data source. In this film, the implied message to be conveyed is not to rush into believing information obtained and not to be easily provoked by other people's words that are not necessarily true. The theory of speech acts is considered very important in communicating, both directly and indirectly. From the discussion above, it was found that speech acts in the animated dialogue film Meraih Mimpi, the types of illocutionary speech acts in the animated dialogue film Meraih Mimpi found in this study include: Assertive speech acts, Directive speech acts, Commissive speech acts, Expressive acts, and Declarative speech acts. Based on data analysis, there are assertive, directive and expressive speech acts that are most often found in the speech of the animated dialogue film Meraih Mimpi. This is in accordance with the theme raised in the film Meraih Mimpi which is educational. Inviting and wanting the audience to follow the moral message contained in the story of the film. The functions of illocutionary speech acts in the animated dialogue film Meraih Mimpi were found in this study, including: Competitive function, Fun function, Cooperation function, and Differentiating function. Based on data analysis, there are competitive functions and fun functions that are most often found in the speech of the animated dialogue film Meraih Mimpi. This is in accordance with the genre raised in the film Meraih Mimpi, namely animation that provides an interesting nuance and an entertaining impression. The theme raised in the film is appropriate because it is able to provide education for those who watch it.

Abstract

This study aims to examine in depth the impact of using ChatGPT as a supporting learning medium on the conceptual understanding of mathematics among eleventh-grade students at MA Aisyiyah Sungguminasa. The background of this research arises from the low level of students’ comprehension of mathematical concepts, as reflected in frequent mistakes in solving problems, difficulties in connecting one concept to another, and a lack of confidence in problem-solving. This condition indicates the need for innovative learning approaches that can provide more interactive, detailed, and easily understood explanations for students. The research method employed was descriptive qualitative with a case study approach. The research subjects consisted of eleventh-grade students who utilized ChatGPT in learning mathematics, particularly on the topics of functions and quadratic equations. Data collection techniques included direct classroom observation, in-depth interviews with students and teachers, and analysis of students’ work produced with the assistance of ChatGPT. The findings revealed that the use of ChatGPT had a positive impact on improving students’ understanding of mathematical concepts. Students became more capable of grasping fundamental ideas, following systematic steps in problem-solving, and applying mathematical concepts in different contexts. Moreover, ChatGPT fostered independent learning, increased curiosity, and encouraged the development of students’ critical thinking skills. Nevertheless, challenges were also identified, such as students’ potential dependency on the application and the risk of misinterpretation without proper guidance. Therefore, the integration of ChatGPT into learning should be carried out under the supervision of teachers to ensure that learning outcomes are more effective, optimal, and sustainable.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Islamic character education through the integration of the Qur’an memorization program (Tahfiz al-Qur’an) and Islamic Religious Education (PAI) at MA An Nur Prima, Medan, North Sumatra. The institution adopts a unique curriculum model in which students participate in Tahfiz activities every morning from 08:00 to 11:00, followed by formal learning, including PAI subjects, from 11:00 to 15:00. This design reflects a systematic effort to instill Islamic values through intensive interaction with the Qur’an while ensuring the achievement of academic competencies. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation during a four-week Professional Capacity Development (PKP) program. The findings show that Islamic character values such as discipline, responsibility, patience, perseverance, and love for the Qur’an were successfully cultivated through the synergy between the Tahfiz program and PAI instruction. Supporting factors included structured school discipline, strong collaboration between Tahfiz supervisors and PAI teachers, as well as high levels of students’ spiritual motivation. However, several challenges emerged, such as student fatigue, reduced concentration in afternoon classes, and differences in self-regulation skills. To address these issues, the school and teachers applied strategies such as providing an ISHOMA break, have lunch (rest, prayer, and meal), encouraging congregational Zuhur prayer, supplying meals to restore energy, incorporating ice-breaking activities, and designing interactive and engaging learning sessions. In conclusion, the integration of Tahfiz al-Qur’an and PAI proved effective in developing Islamic character values while maintaining a balance between students’ spiritual formation and academic performance.

Abstract

This study aims to apply the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model based on the Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) approach to improve junior high school students' argumentative literacy in speech text material. The study was conducted on grade VIII-E students of SMP Negeri 7 Banjarmasin with a descriptive qualitative approach through documentation and observation of teaching modules, teacher reports, and learning evaluation results. The results of the study indicate that the application of PBL syntax - starting from problem orientation through contextual speech texts, group work with LKPD, presentation of discussion results, to evaluation using applications such as Kahoot is able to improve students' abilities in analyzing text structures, compiling arguments, and expressing opinions logically and critically. The CRT approach strengthens the relevance of the material to the students' cultural background, thus encouraging active involvement and deeper understanding. The application of PBL and CRT has proven effective in forming critical thinking skills and improving the quality of Indonesian language learning that is more contextual and meaningful.

Abstract

Educational quality is a strategic issue that plays a crucial role in determining the competitiveness of human resources in the global era. The main factors influencing its achievement include effective leadership and the implementation of Total Quality Management (TQM). However, previous studies reveal diverse approaches and findings that require a more comprehensive synthesis. Therefore, this article aims to systematically examine the role of leadership and quality management strategies in improving educational quality and to address the following questions: (1) how leadership contributes to the improvement of educational quality, and (2) how quality management strategies can be implemented to address global challenges. The method employed is a literature review through a systematic search of articles using Google Scholar and Publish or Perish (PoP). The keywords “conflict resolution” and “quality leadership” were used to identify relevant literature. Out of 50 articles identified, 19 articles were selected based on publication year criteria (2022–2025), open-access availability, and topic relevance. The selected articles were then coded and categorized into thematic groups. The main findings reveal three dominant patterns: (1) visionary, transformational, and authentic leadership significantly influence educational quality; (2) TQM strategies serve as an innovative framework for quality improvement; and (3) a quality-oriented culture is essential in addressing global challenges. In conclusion, this synthesis emphasizes the importance of quality-based leadership and provides directions for future research related to the implementation of TQM in the digital era.

Abstract

Principal leadership plays a crucial role in building a positive school culture and improving the quality of education. The principal functions not only as a school administrative manager but also as an educational leader capable of optimally coordinating, mobilizing, and empowering all school resources. A positive school culture serves as the foundation for creating a conducive learning climate, improving teacher performance, and shaping the overall character of students. This study employed a qualitative approach with a literature review. Data were obtained from various scientific sources, including books, journals, and documents relevant to the topic of principal leadership and school culture. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing to gain a comprehensive understanding of the role of principal leadership in building a positive school culture. The study results indicate that effective principal leadership, characterized by a clear vision and mission, leadership competency, and the ability to build commitment and synergy among all school members, significantly influences the creation of a conducive school culture. A positive school culture impacts more innovative and contextual learning, strengthening extracurricular activities according to students' talents and interests, and developing student character traits such as religiosity, honesty, discipline, environmental awareness, creativity, independence, and national spirit. Therefore, effective principal leadership is the key to creating a quality and character-based school.

Abstract

The integration of Western psychology and Islamic perspectives has become a significant issue in the development of contemporary knowledge and education. The rapid advancement of modern psychology requires synthesis with Islamic epistemology to provide a more contextual response to academic and practical needs, particularly in the areas of education, counseling, and character development. This article aims to address the research question: What are the trends in integrating Western psychology and Islamic perspectives in recent literature, and what are their implications for the theory and practice of Islamic education? This study employs a qualitative approach through a literature review method. Articles were collected via Google Scholar and Publish or Perish using the keywords “integration of psychology” AND “Islamic education.” From an initial pool of 40 articles, the screening process yielded 5 articles that met the criteria of publication year (2021–2025), topical relevance, and open access availability. The review reveals three main themes: (1) epistemological integration emphasizing the Islamization of knowledge; (2) the application of Islamic psychology in education, counseling, and curriculum development; and (3) conceptual and practical challenges in linking Western psychology with Islamic paradigms. This synthesis highlights the importance of integrative frameworks to enhance the relevance of Islamic psychology in academic and social contexts. Future studies should broaden empirical methodologies and further develop cross-disciplinary applied models.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are considered a fundamental skill essential for facing the challenges and complex issues of the 21st century. One teaching strategy considered effective in fostering these skills is the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) method. This study aims to describe the application of PBL in the teaching and learning process and its impact on strengthening students' critical thinking skills. The approach used in this research is classroom action research (CAR) with descriptive qualitative methods. The study results revealed that the use of PBL can improve students' critical thinking skills, particularly in the aspects of interpretation, analysis, and assessment. In addition, the implementation of PBL also has a positive impact on increasing student activeness, collaboration skills, and independence in the learning process. Obstacles encountered during the learning process can be minimized through the application of appropriate strategies, such as providing scaffolding and optimizing the use of digital-based learning resources. These findings make an important contribution to the development of more effective teaching methods in improving the quality of students' critical thinking in schools, as well as offering practical solutions for teachers to increase student engagement in problem-based learning.

Abstract

This study aims to explore and identify geometric concepts embedded in traditional Balinese food, known as Jaja Bali, through an ethnomathematics perspective. A qualitative approach with an ethnographic method was employed, involving direct observation of various types of Jaja Bali found in traditional markets and local food stalls across several areas in Bali. Data were collected through descriptive field notes, informal interviews with vendors, and visual documentation to support the findings. The collected data were then analyzed using the interactive analysis model proposed by Miles and Huberman, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results reveal that Jaja Bali embodies a wide range of geometric concepts, encompassing both two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes such as squares, circles, parallelograms, triangles, semicircles, and cylinders. In addition, concepts of symmetry and geometric transformations, particularly rotation, were also identified. These findings highlight that Jaja Bali is not only rich in cultural and symbolic value but also represents practical applications of geometric concepts in the daily lives of the Balinese community. This study is expected to serve as an alternative, culturally contextualized resource for teaching and learning geometry.

Abstract

This study examines the use of politeness strategies in social media interactions, focusing on user comments addressed to public figures. As social media increasingly functions as a public communication space, language use within it reflects not only personal expression but also social norms, power relations, and considerations of face. Despite the informal and anonymous nature of online platforms, users often display strategic language choices to manage interpersonal relationships and avoid face-threatening acts. This research aims to identify the types of politeness strategies employed by social media users, determine the most dominant strategy, and explain the reasons underlying its use. The study adopts a qualitative descriptive approach. The data consist of 100 purposively selected comments collected from Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube, taken from posts by three highly visible public figures: a head of state, a global music celebrity, and a technology entrepreneur. Data analysis is guided by Brown and Levinson’s politeness theory, which categorizes strategies into positive politeness, negative politeness, bald on record, and off record. The findings indicate that positive politeness is the most frequently used strategy (78%), followed by negative politeness (11%), bald on record (10%), and off record (1%). The dominance of positive politeness suggests that social media users tend to maintain friendliness, show approval, and express respect, particularly when interacting with figures of authority or high public status. These findings demonstrate that digital communication continues to mirror offline social norms and highlight the continued relevance of politeness theory in online discourse.
