Abstract

Digital art is increasingly influenced by artificial intelligence (AI), presenting both creative opportunities and ethical polemics within the digital media ecosystem. This research aims to examine how AI influences the creative process of artists and how the #TolakGambarAI movement functions as a form of digital activism on social media. The method used is a systematic literature review of academic articles published between 2020 and 2024 from the Scopus and Google Scholar databases and then supplemented by public discourse on Twitter posts related to #TolakGambarAI to test the relevance of theoretical findings to digital communication practices. The results show that the debate surrounding AI-based art is divided into two main poles: AI is viewed as an instrument for the democratization of art that expands creative participation, and simultaneously as a threat that reduces originality and infringes on copyright. #TolakGambarAI movement demonstrates how artists use social media to build a discourse of resistance, mobilize support, and negotiate artistic identity amidst the tide of digitalization. This study confirms that resistance to AI is not related to the issue of art, but is also a practice of digital communication that reflects the dynamics of power, legitimacy, and media literacy in the online public sphere.

Abstract

This study examines the role of peace journalism in mitigating social conflicts in Indonesia. Triggered by the high potential for social conflict within the nation's pluralistic society, this research aims to analyze how the practice of peace journalism can be an effective instrument for de-escalating tensions. Using a qualitative approach with a case study strategy, data was collected through in- depth interviews with journalists and media content analysis. The findings indicate that peace journalism plays four crucial roles: promoting understanding, encouraging constructive dialogue, strengthening peace, and preventing violence. Peace journalism is proven to be capable of transforming conflict narratives from being provocative into those that are solution-oriented and focused on reconciliation. The conclusion of this study is that peace journalism is not merely a theory but a vital, transformative practice for building a more tolerant and harmonious society in Indonesia.

Abstract

This research analyzes the negative stigma of netizens towards the candidate for member of the East Java Regional Representative Council (DPD), Kondang Kusuma Ning Ayu, through comments on the TikTok account @selfiyvelz5. This research uses Van Dijk's critical discourse analysis. The goal of this research is to understand how these comments reflect and reinforce negative stigma toward candidates. Data was collected from various comments that reflect disappointment and rejection, especially regarding visual representation and unmet expectations by voters. The results of the analysis show that expectations of candidates are often formed by stereotypes and visual representations, which, when not met, lead to cognitive dissonance and disappointment expressed through various forms of negative comments. The main factors that cause negative stigma to arise are the difference between the candidate's visual representation and reality, as well as high public expectations regarding the candidate's physical characteristics and age. In conclusion, these negative comments not only reflect individual disappointment but also reinforce broader social stereotypes about the appearance and worthiness of political candidates.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze and compare the media framing of the Indonesian Minister of Finance's controversial statements regarding the "17+8" demands, which triggered a political communication crisis. Utilizing a qualitative approach with the Robert N. Entman framing analysis model, the study compares nine news articles from the online portals Kompas.com (4 articles) and Detik.com (5 articles) published between September 9 and 10, 2025. The results indicate that both media effectively served a function of social control by maintaining a consensus on demanding moral accountability from the official. However, a significant difference in problem diagnosis was found: Kompas.com framed the issue as systemic, criticizing the political elite's mentality of dismissing public demands, whereas Detik.com focused on the personal dimension, highlighting the official's failure in adapting his communication ethics. This contrast leads to a main conclusion: that state officials are required to possess not only substantive competence and professional ability, but must also be equipped with deep empathy and behavioral accountability in all public communication. The result of this study contribute to strengthening research in the fields of political communication and media framing analysis, particularly by highlighting how media discourse construction shapes public perception of communication crises involving state afficials.

Abstract

Flexing, or showing off wealth and luxury, has become a widespread phenomenon on social media, especially among celebrities and influencers. This behavior is used to attract attention, increase popularity, and strengthen one's image in front of an audience. Flexing often utilizes a luxurious lifestyle as a personal marketing strategy. This study uses media text analysis with a Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) approach developed by Norman Fairclough. Data was collected through direct observation of content uploaded to the Instagram account @siscakohl. The results show that @siscakohl effectively uses flexing strategies to gain popularity. Content that displays a luxurious lifestyle and extravagance successfully attracts the attention of many followers, increases interaction, and strengthens her personal image as a successful influencer. Flexing is also used to build narratives of success and aspiration, which are relevant to the audience's desire to achieve higher social and economic status. The contribution of this research lies in a new understanding of self-branding practices through flexing culture on social media, which not only functions as a form of personal expression but also as a communication strategy that influences the construction of identity and social relations in the digital space. These findings can be a reference for further research in the study of digital communication, popular culture, and new media.
