Abstract

This study investigates the pivotal role of local youth in promoting tourism awareness. The research is conducted inDetusoko Barat Village, located within the Detusoko District of Ende Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. Employing a qualitative research design, the study utilises purposive sampling to identify participants. Data collection methods included observation and in-depth interviews to seven informants to gain comprehensive insights into their experiences and perspectives. The findings indicate that while the youth in Detusoko Barat are positioned as vital agents of change and development within the context of tourism, their roles in advancing the tourism awareness movement are not being fully realised. The research highlights gaps in engagement, suggesting that further efforts are needed to empower youth and optimise their contributions to tourism development. Abstract

Internships serve as a critical component of tourism and hospitality education, offering students the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings. This study conducts a qualitative content analysis of two diploma student internship reports, focusing on placements at the international chain hotel and local tourism transportation. The analysis reveals four key thematic areas: task performance and role clarity, professional behavior and service ethics, technological adaptation, and reflections on learning and career readiness. Findings indicate that while students gained valuable operational experience and service skills, there was limited evidence of structured reflection and mentoring as the elements crucial for maximising learning outcomes and employability. This study contributes to the discourse on work-integrated learning by highlighting the need for improved internship design, including feedback mechanisms and alignment with digital and soft skill development. Implications are discussed for educators, industry partners, and policymakers aiming to enhance the effectiveness of vocational training in tourism education.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of Instagram as a promotional tool on tourist decision-making, using Kiara Artha Park in Bandung as a case study. A quantitative survey was conducted with 122 valid respondents, and data were analysed using simple linear regression. The findings reveal a strong positive relationship between Instagram-based promotions and tourist decision-making, with 66.7% of the variance in decision-making explained by promotional activities on Instagram. Respondents agreed that Instagram is informative, visually appealing, and helpful in planning visits. However, while Instagram significantly influences interest and intent to visit, actual visit behaviour shows more variation. These results align with prior research emphasising Instagram's role in destination branding. Limitations include the single-location focus and demographic skew toward younger users. Future studies should explore diverse destinations, include more variables, and apply longitudinal methods to assess long-term behavioural impacts of social media on tourism.
