Abstract

This study aims to determine whether there is an influence collectively or individually between self esteem and self control variables on the mathematical creative thinking ability of class IX at SMP N 4 Purwokerto. The type of research used is quantitative research with survey methods. The population in this study were all 279 students in class IX at SMP Negeri 4 Purwokerto. Samples were obtained as many as 165 students based on the Slovin formula, which were taken using simple random sampling technique. Data collection was carried out through tests of mathematical creative thinking abilities and self esteem and self control questionnaires. Data analysis techniques were performed using simple linear regression and multiple linear regression, as well as statistical t tests and statistical F tests. The results of this study were 1) there was the influence of self esteem on mathematical creative thinking skills of class IX students of SMP Negeri 4 Purwokerto. This is shown based on the calculated t value of (2.937) > t table (1.974), with the regression equation = 6,173 + 0,846X1. 2) there was the influence of self control on mathematical creative thinking skills of class IX students of SMP Negeri 4 Purwokerto which is shown based on the value of t count (4.234) > t table (1.974), with the regression equation = 4,518 + 0,891X2. 3) there is the influence of self esteem and self control simultaneously on the ability to think creatively mathematically in class IX students of SMP Negeri 4 Purwokerto, with the acquisition of Fcount (54.037) > Ftable (3.051). The magnitude of the influence is determined by the value of the coefficient of multiple determination, which is 40%, meaning that 60% of students' mathematical creative thinking ability is influenced or determined by other factors. The multiple regression equation that is formed is = -2,872 + 0,403X1 + 0,583X2, meaning that between the variables self esteem and self control on students mathematical creative thinking ability has a positive correlation, and both have a very positive and significant effect. So, with a higher level of self esteem and self control of students, the ability to think creatively mathematically will increase.

Abstract

Inclusive and compulsory participation strategy of teaching mathematics is designed to ensure that all the learners and the teacher are involved in the teaching and learning process. A pretest, posttest, quasi-experimental design study was carried out with 275 senior secondary school class two (SSC2) students to test the effectiveness of the model. They were divided into experimental group of 135 students, taught construction and loci using inclusive and compulsory participation strategy and control group comprising 140 students, taught the same topic using conventional strategy. The result showed that the experimental group had a mean score of 87% and standard deviation of 7% as against mean of 53% and standard deviation of 9% obtained by the control group. This give a t-test score of 34.76 which is greater than the critical value of t = 1.96 at 0.05 level of significance, implying that there existed a significant difference in the achievement, in favour of the experimental group with higher mean score. Similarly, the attitude test scores were 73% with standard deviation od 5% for the experimental group while the control group had a mean attitude score of 49% and standard deviation of 6%, giving t-test of 35.95 showing that there is a significant difference in the attitude score of the groups with the experimental group having higher mean attitude score of 73% as against 49% and standard deviation of 5% and 6% respectively obtained by the experimental and control groups. The model and its strategy is highly recommended.

Abstract

The results of observations that have been made in class X E9 SMA Negeri 5 Purwokerto show that the problem that exists in Mathematics learning is the lack of student independence, many students do not carry out independent evaluations individually and according to their abilities. There are still students who lack awareness in preparing themselves before the learning process begins. This can be seen when the teacher starts learning activities, only a small number of students prepare themselves before the learning process begins. When students are given an assignment, they don't do it straight away but still depend on their friends, for example, if they are given practice questions, they still look at their friends' answers. Seeing this, learning is needed that actively involves students and can make students dare to try to use their own abilities in solving problems. Therefore, the author is interested in this research. Learning with the Problem Based Learning model accompanied by TaRL and CRT approaches in Probability material in class X E9 SMA Negeri 5 Purwokerto can increase the percentage of students' learning independence from cycle I to cycle III by 39.6%.

Abstract

Students' mathematical problem-solvingare one of the basic skills in mathematics learning that must be possessed by every student. The low level of mathematical problem-solvingability of grade VII students at MTs Ma'arif NU 1 Pekuncen is the reason for the development of this learning media. The purpose of this study is to develop game-based interactive learning media using a realistic approach that is valid and effective in improving students' mathematical problem-solving in social arithmetic material in grade VII. This research uses the Research and Development (R&D) method. The results obtained in this study show that the interactive learning media of game-based learning is valid to be used with the acquisition of nasils by validation, namely the validation of the first and second experts obtained validity coefficients of 3.79 and 3.4, the practicality test by teachers obtained a validity coefficient of 3.8, and also the student response test with a score of 88.3. This learning media is also effectively used in improving students' mathematical problem-solving which is characterized by the average post-test of the experimental class of 75 which is greater than the average of the control class which gets a result of 59. Then, based on the post-test t-test, a significance of 0.000 was obtained, which was smaller than the limit of the significance level of 0.05. This indicates that the learning media developed is effectively used in improving students' mathematical problem-solving in social arithmetic material in class VII at MTs Ma'arif NU 1 Pekuncen.
