Abstract

This article examines the philosophy of the unity of knowledge from a philosophical perspective, emphasizing the understanding of knowledge as an integrated whole that combines reason, morality, and spirituality. Modern scientific development tends toward fragmentation into isolated disciplines, exacerbated by a positivist paradigm that prioritizes technical and economic aspects while neglecting moral and spiritual values. Through a literature study, this article reflects on the concept of the unity of knowledge as formulated in the Islamic intellectual tradition by figures such as Al-Farabi, Ibn Sina, Al-Ghazali, and Ismail Raji al-Faruqi, offering a philosophical approach to bridging science, values, and the meaning of life. Interdisciplinary integration is viewed as an essential strategy to address social, cultural, and ethical challenges in the era of globalization. The article asserts that the unity of knowledge is not merely an idealistic notion but a fundamental necessity in building a civilized, just, and sustainable society, enabling knowledge to serve both as a means of empowerment and a guide toward a dignified life.

Abstract

This article examines the implementation of anti-usury (riba) principles in Islamic law through a comparative study between Qur’anic texts and modern economic practices. The primary focus is to analyze how the Qur’anic prohibition of riba—supported by scholarly consensus—is realized within contemporary financial systems. This study applies a qualitative method, using thematic interpretation of riba-related verses and normative analysis, while also exploring the realities of Islamic financial institutions, fintech, and takaful insurance in Indonesia. The findings reveal that although Islamic finance is growing, its implementation faces various challenges such as the dualism of economic systems, low public literacy, product complexity, and market competition pressures. Furthermore, the emergence of anti-riba social movements plays a significant role in driving economic transformation aligned with Islamic values. The study recommends strengthening regulations, education based on maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah, and the empowerment of Islamic microfinance institutions to build a fair, inclusive, and riba-free financial ecosystem.

Abstract

The paper aims to study the influence of Islam in world history by taking a preliminary analysis of kitab Fasl al-maqal by Ibn Rushd. It analyses the ideas and influence of Abu’l-Walid Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Rushd (1126-1198) in inspiring the Age of Enlightenment in Europe. His philosophical works and doctrine written in early 6-12th centuries has manifested dramatic influence in the making of Western civilization as recognized in the late 18th century renaissance. The phenomenal impact of this highly Muslim contribution was seen in the cultural worldview that constitute the cornerstone of Western Europe. The study is based on qualitative approaches in the form of literature review and content analysis. The data were obtained from primary and secondary sources and analyzed by way of descriptive, analytical, thematic, hermeneutic, synthetic and historical technique. The finding shows that the works and thought of Ibn Rushd as presented in Fasl al-Maqal (The Decisive Treatise) has inspired radical intellectual transformation in European society. This paper contributes to highlight historical influence of his scientific works that constitute the cornerstone of his worldview and discuss the monumental socio-religious reform initiated by this great giant, Ibn Rushd representing the political landscape of al-Andalus and the history of Western Europe.
