Esensi: Jurnal Bisnis dan Manajemen. The Journal published by Faculty of Economic and Business Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University of Jakarta. This journal focused on Accounting, Business, Economics, Finance and Management studies. The Journal is published twice a year (May and November). The aim of the journal is to disseminate the accounting, business, finance, and management researches done by researchers both from Indonesian and overseas.

<![CDATA[Efficiency and Productivity Rate of Zakah Institution in IndonesiaThis study aimed to measure the efficiency and productivity of five zakah institutions. Calculation of efficiency level in this study are relative, not absolute. This Study consists of two methods: Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), and Malmquist Productivity Index (MPI). There are 5 research objects, namely DD, BAZNAS, PKPU, YBM BRI and RZI with annual data 2005 to 2014. Furthermore, the lowest relative efficiencies level is DD (2010) amounted to 9.63%. In addition, approximately 80% of five OPZs increased the productivity. In the general, the main factor of inefficient of five zakat institutions from 2005 to 2014 was caused by distribution of zakah to ashnaf which still not optimal, then it cannot solve the poverty rate. Furthermore, it needs to increase collection and distribution of zakah fund amounted to 31.53% and 47.87%. Besides that it needs to decrease cost of socialization and operational cost amounted to 11.81% and 8.79%.DOI: 10.15408/ess.v7i1.3687 ]]>

<![CDATA[Financial Distress Prediction in The Indonesian Banks: Discriminant Analysis and Logistic RegressionThis research aims to create early warning models for predicting financial distress on Indonesian commercial banks. Early warning models is made by estimating bank indicators that led bank run into financial problems which to be shut down by the government. Estimation use two methods, discriminant analysis, logistic regression. The data used to create models is bank's financial ratios in 1994-1997 gathered from Direktori Perbankan Indonesia (DPI). Out of the sample test use the data in 1998. All model were used to predict the bank's financial distress after 2000. This study found some characteristics of distressed banks that will be in the state of failure in two or three years. Finally, this research found that early warning system models is able to predict the probability of financial distress on commercial banks.DOI: 10.15408/ess.v7i1.4686 ]]>

<![CDATA[Financing Determinants in The Indonesian Islamic Rural BankIslamic Rural Bank serves as a financial intermediary to carry out the activities of collecting and distributing funds from the public. Therefore, it is necessary to test whether internal factors, which include deposit funds, capital adequacy ratio, financing to deposit ratio and non-performing financing significantly affects to financing. The purpose of this study is to examine the factors that affect the financing in Islamic rural bank in Indonesia. The analytical tool used in this research is multiple linear regression analysis. The results of the study, to simultaneously show that the Third Party Funds, Capital Adequacy Ratio, Financing to Deposit Non-Performing Financing significantly affects to Distribution of Funding in SRB (BPRS), while the rest is explained by other factors not enrolled in this study.DOI: 10.15408/ess.v7i1.4542 ]]>

<![CDATA[Financial Ratio and It's Impact on Profitability in The Indonesian Islamic Rural BanksIslamic rural banks same like as usual Islamic commercial banks that profit oriented. The aim of this research is to examine the factors that influenc the profitability in Islamic rural banks. The methods that used in this research is multiple regression. The result shows that only efficiency operational ratio (BOPO) and non-performing finance (NPF) that had impact on profitability. The profitability measured by return on asset (ROA). Otherwise, financing to deposit ratio (FDR) and capital adequacy ratio (CAR) doesn’t had an impact on Islamic rural bank’s profitability. This research implies that Islamic rural banks should increase the operational efficiency and reduce the non-performing finance.DOI: 10.15408/ess.v7i1.4076 ]]>

<![CDATA[Determinants of Customer Satisfaction at Pertamina's Lubricants ProductLubricant industry is one of the strategic industries in around the world. The potential of the lubricant industry in Indonesia grows rapidly along with the increasing demand and the number of a vehicle from year to year. This study aims to analyze factors that influencing customer satisfaction Pertamina Lubricants product and measure how far the customer satisfaction level of its product. This study observed eight categories of Pertamina Lubricants product, with quota sampling technique where each category of the product taken 30 samples, so the total number of the sample are 240 respondents. Multiple linear regression and customer satisfaction index were used in this study. The study finds brand popularity has the most significant effect on customer satisfaction, followed by price and durability. Customer satisfaction level stands at 78 percent, which means belongs in the satisfied category. <![CDATA[The Impact of Trade Globalization on Welfare in Moslem CountriesThis study aims at examining the impact of trade globalization on walfare level in the Moslem countries. Our welfare variable was measured using maqashid sharia approach, namely care of religion (proxied by conflict intensity), care of the soul (proxied by death rate), care of intellect (proxied by education participation rate), care of the offspring (proxied by population rate) and care of the treasure (proxied by GDP per capita). Meanwhile, trade globalization was proxied by trade openness. In addition to completed analysis, we also employed inflation and exchange rate as additional control variables. Our empirical model used panel data model consisting 9 moslem countries over 1980-2011. This study verified that trade openness has significantly positive effect on welfare indicators, such as population rate, education participation rate, GDP per capita, and death rates decline in the Moslem countries. Our estimation also found that inflation and exchange rate appear to be significantly affecting almost all welfare indicators used in analysis.DOI: 10.15408/ess.v7i1.4764 ]]>

This study is going to investigate the managerial performance in pempek business family. The purpose of this study to determine: first, the effect of budgetary participation on managerial performance. Second, mediating effect job satisfaction in the relationship budgetary participation on managerial performance. The analysis technique that used in this study is path analysis. <![CDATA[Financial Performance and Stock Return: Study at Insurance Companies Listed in The Indonesian Stock ExchangeMuch of the literature said that financial performance had an effect on the stock return, including in insurance company. The purpose of this research is to examine the effect of financial performance to stock return of insurance company that listed in Indonesia stock exchange. This research is using multiple regressions as analysis technique. The results showed that all the variables simultaneously had an effect on the stock return. By partially showed that Price Book Value, Incurred Loss Ratio, Premium Growth Ratio, and Total Asset Turnover has no significant influence on the stock return. While Return on Equity has significant positive influence on the stock return and Debt on Asset Ratio, Net Profit Margin has significant negative influence on the stock return.DOI: 10.15408/ess.v7i1.4724]]>
