Abstract

Research Originality: The stability of banking institutions is crucial for the overall financial health of a country. The originality of this paper lies in its innovative use of quantile regression analysis to provide a nuanced understanding of the factors influencing bank stability, particularly in the Indonesian context.Research Objectives: This research identifies factors influencing bank stability in Islamic and conventional banks in Indonesia.Research Methods: Utilizing quantile regression analysis to measure the impact of various factors at different quantiles, addressing the existing mixed findings in the literature. This study utilizes 15 years of data, encompassing 61 observations for Islamic banks and 779 observations for conventional banks in Indonesia.Empirical Results: The study identifies impaired loans as the primary determinant of bank stability in Indonesia, with a notably greater impact on conventional banks compared to Islamic banks. Notably, the upper quantile of Islamic banks indicates a decline or a lesser impact on bank stability.  The paper additionally concludes that the stability of Islamic banks in Indonesia is comparatively lower than conventional banks.Implications: By offering insights into the different levels of factors affecting bank stability, the study contributes to the existing literature, sheds light on unique dynamics, and highlights potential recommendations for enhancing bank stability, especially in the context of non-performing loans.JEL Classification: C21, C23, G21How to Cite:Khan, S., Aziza, N. Abstract

This research is envisioned to explain the impact of individual time management behaviors on the work-life balance of banking employees. Using the positivist paradigm, a self-administered survey was chosen to collect responses from bank employees across Sindh, Pakistan. The presented hypotheses were supported by quantitative analytical techniques that tested causal links between all constructs. A total of 450 questionnaires were administered, out of which 320 valid responses were analyzed using PLS-SEM. The findings validated that individual time management behaviors do contribute to attaining work-life balance in the banking sector. Results revealed a positive effect of goal setting and priorities, time management mechanics, and organization preference on employees’ work-life balance. Among all, mechanics of time management (MTM) substantially impact achieving work-life balance. This research will aid in the identification of time management practices that are better capable of balancing work and life.JEL Classification: M12How to Cite:Shaikh, S., Khoso, I., & Channa, N. Abstract

The aging trend of the population in Hong Kong and Macau is evident, so the pension system is especially significant. This research paper uses document analysis and a double-case study as the research method. It uses path dependence and critical moments in historical institutionalism theory as the theoretical tools for political economy analysis. The discussion argues that “the social culture shaped by local politics,” “the combination of local economic development and economic structure,” and “influence from social structure” are the three main factors that influence the pension systems in Hong Kong and Macau, and are the fundamental reasons for the differences between the pension systems in Hong Kong and Macau. We also conclude that the outbreak of COVID-19 is causing the evolution of the pension systems in both regions to be converging.JEL Classification: H7, N9, O2, R5How to Cite:Guo, S., You, L., & Wang, Q. Abstract

This study aims to develop an Islamic personality model as a psychometric tool to assess creditworthiness as an alternative predictive character analysis for micro businesses. The method designed to formulate the proposed model coded in R Studio uses two approaches. First, we modify Moslem Religiosity Personality Inventory and then frame a structural model based on Partial Least Square. Subsequently, we use the random forest technique to see the model's accuracy. The result shows a valid and reliable model and performs with 89.47 % accuracy with an Area Under Curve -Receiver Operating Characteristic of 90.06 %. This model implies a solution to strengthen the assessment of the character of creditworthiness of a potential micro-business and helps Islamic Financial Institutions to assess prospective micro-business to determine credit risk and pricing.JEL Classification: B41, D81, D87, G21, P43How to Cite:Hardiansyah., Amalia, E., & Hamid, A. Abstract

Research originality: This research adds the exchange rate variable and the use of the Vector Autoregressive (VAR) model that can add to the financial literature.Research Objectives: This study examines how macroeconomics can impact a business during a crisis. The stock market has associated access with new COVID-19 cases and new deaths in Indonesia. During the pandemic, the exchange rate is critical, so this study observes the exchange rate of IDR against USD. This paper investigates the relationship between new cases, new deaths, and the exchange rate with the stock market index.Research Methods: The study retrieves the daily data from March 2, 2020, to June 30, 2022, from Our World in Data, Indonesia's stock exchange, and Indonesia's Statistic Central Bureau. We have used the ADF, Vector Autoregressive (VAR) Model, impulse response function, and the Toda Yamamoto causality test. Empirical Results: The findings reveal a significant negative impact of new COVID-19 cases, new deaths, and exchange rates on the stock market. Toda Yamamoto's causality analysis reveals substantial evidence of unidirectional daily growth of new COVID-19 deaths in the stock market and a bidirectional causality of new COVID-19 cases and new COVID-19 deaths.Implications: The policy implications of this study are to stabilize markets, impact overall financial stability, support entrepreneurship, and develop a competitive market environment that can encourage innovation. JEL Classification: C5, E31, F31How to Cite:Goh, T. Abstract

This study evaluates the determinants and impacts of trust toward awqf institutions. We extend previous studies by examining the determining role of religiosity and knowledge on trust towards awqf institutions, in addition to the role of reputation and integrity. Our study differs from the previous studies as we incorporate the intergenerational analysis of 658 experienced and inexperienced Indonesian waqf donors by employing the PLS-SEM method. Our findings suggest that religiosity and knowledge significantly influence trust toward awqf institutions. However, the impact differs across generations X, Y, and Z. While the direct impacts of religiosity and knowledge on the intention to do cash waqf are insignificant for certain generations, the variables significantly impact the intention of all generations when moderated by the trust. Therefore, our primary implication is for awqf institutions to know their customers better and offer more trust-enhancing programs for the inexperienced younger generations.JEL Classification: Z12, L31How to Cite:Haidlir, B. Abstract

Research Originality: In the realm of manufacturing firms, the pursuit of profitability remains a foremost concern. This paper distinguishes itself through its innovative approach, integrating key factors such as liquidity, leverage, activity, and the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic. Utilizing panel regression analysis, the study scrutinizes Indonesia's total manufacturing firms to shed light on this critical issue.Research Objectives: This study primarily aims to evaluate the profitability of manufacturing firms in Indonesia. It specifically delves into the impact of liquidity, leverage, and activity measures on profitability, while also examining how the COVID-19 pandemic factors into this equation.Research Methods: Employing a quantitative approach, this study utilizes panel data gathered from 134 manufacturing firms in Indonesia spanning from 2018 to 2023. The analysis relies on a panel regression model to draw insights.Empirical Results: The analysis yields significant findings. Notably, leverage demonstrates a negative and statistically significant influence on manufacturing firms' profitability, whereas firm activity shows a positive and statistically significant effect. Conversely, liquidity and the COVID-19 pandemic appear to have negligible impacts on profitability.Implications: These findings hold critical implications for policymakers and practitioners within Indonesia's manufacturing sector. To bolster the profitability of manufacturing firms, policymakers should prioritize reducing leverage and fostering increased company activity, possibly through amplified sales efforts.JEL Classification: G32, G33, G01, L60How to Cite:Khalifaturofi’ah, S.
