Abstract

Research on Islamic thought in the Malay world has been shaped through a gradual and contextual historical process, involving a dynamic interaction between Islamic teachings, local cultural traditions, and social developments. The moderation, adaptability, and accommodativeness of Malay Islamic thought provide a distinctive intellectual identity compared to Islamic thought traditions in other regions. This article aims to examine the basic patterns of Islamic thought development in the Malay world and analyze its implications for Islamic education management practices. This research uses a qualitative approach with a literature study method through a critical review of primary and secondary sources relevant to the study of Islamic thought and Islamic education in the Malay world. The research findings indicate that Malay Islamic thought developed through an integrative pattern between Islamic values ​​and local culture, strengthening the Ahlussunnah wal Jama'ah tradition, and a moderate attitude in responding to the dynamics of modernization. This pattern has direct implications for Islamic education management, particularly in the development of educational leadership, curriculum design, and institutional governance that emphasizes the principles of moderation, balance, and sustainability.

Abstract

This article examines the moral dimension (akhlaq) in the Sufism of Abu Hamid al-Ghazali and its relevance to contemporary Islamic education. While al-Ghazali has been widely studied as a theologian, jurist, and mystic, most studies emphasize his epistemology and spirituality, leaving the ethical core of his Sufism underexplored, particularly in character education. This qualitative library research employs content analysis of Ihya’ ‘Ulum al-Din and recent national and international scholarly works. The findings reveal that al-Ghazali’s Sufism is Sunni-oriented, practical (amali), and morally centered (akhlaqi). Akhlaq functions not only as the outcome but also as the method and goal of spiritual discipline through the stages of takhalli, tahalli, and tajalli. This ethical Sufism aligns with the concept of humans as the Divine image, emphasizing moral transformation as the manifestation of spiritual awareness. The study contributes to Islamic education discourse by positioning ethical Sufism as a foundational framework for holistic character education.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the strategies of Guidance and Counseling teachers in shaping students' character through various guidance and counseling services at MTs Nurul Huda Banjar Agung. Character building is an important aspect of education that plays a role in developing students' positive attitudes, values, and behaviors. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive research type. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects included guidance and counseling teachers, madrasah principals, and students. The results showed that guidance and counseling teachers' strategies in shaping students' character were carried out through personal, social, learning, and career guidance services, as well as supporting activities such as individual counseling, group counseling, and collaboration with homeroom teachers and parents. The character values ​​developed include discipline, responsibility, honesty, politeness, and religiosity. Supporting factors in the implementation of guidance and counseling services include good cooperation between educators and a conducive school environment, while inhibiting factors are limited time and diverse student backgrounds.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of Islamic Religious Education on students' academic culture with religious moderation as a mediating variable at Institute of Technology and Business Indragiri. The research approach used is quantitative with a survey method, involving students as respondents. Data analysis was conducted using Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results show that Islamic Religious Education has a positive and significant effect on students' academic culture. In addition, Islamic Religious Education also has a positive and significant effect on religious moderation. Furthermore, religious moderation is proven to have a positive effect on academic culture and significantly mediates the relationship between Islamic Religious Education and students' academic culture. These findings confirm that strengthening Islamic Religious Education based on religious moderation has a strategic role in building students' academic culture in higher education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of 21st-century competencies in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning through the integration of 4C skills (critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication), literacy, Character Education Strengthening (PPK), and HOTS at SDN 2 Jatidatar. The study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through classroom observations, interviews with teachers and students, and document analysis. The results show that 21st-century competencies are implemented through group discussions, problem-based learning, simple projects, and reflection on Islamic values. Literacy is developed through reading texts and using digital media, PPK through habituation of religious attitudes and teamwork, and HOTS through case analysis and problem-solving. This implementation encourages students to be active, critical, and collaborative.

Abstract

Abstract This study aims to analyze the integration of character values into the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) curriculum based on deep learning for fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 3 Mataram Udik. The research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. The participants included one PAI teacher and 46 students divided into two classes. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. The findings reveal that character value integration was implemented through three main dimensions of deep learning: mindful learning, which fostered self-awareness and moral reflection; meaningful learning, which connected instructional content to students’ real-life experiences to strengthen value internalization; and joyful learning through STEAM-based projects that enhanced creativity, collaboration, and responsibility. The integration of these approaches not only improved students’ conceptual understanding of religious content but also holistically developed character traits such as honesty, trustworthiness, discipline, empathy, and teamwork. This study contributes to the development of a deep learning-based PAI instructional model aligned with 21st-century educational demands while maintaining strong religious value foundations.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relevance of the deep learning approach to the spirit of the Merdeka Curriculum in Fiqh learning for eighth-grade students at MTs Al Mubarok Uman Agung, Central Lampung. In this study, the deep learning approach is grounded in three main elements: meaningful learning, mindful learning, and joyful learning. This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive design. The research subjects consisted of a Fiqh teacher and eighth-grade students. Data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation, while data analysis was conducted using an interactive model involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that meaningful learning was implemented by connecting Fiqh materials with students’ real-life experiences, making learning more contextual and meaningful. Mindful learning was reflected in students’ reflective thinking, learning awareness, and deep understanding of the values and purposes of Islamic law. Meanwhile, joyful learning was evident in a supportive and enjoyable learning atmosphere that fostered positive emotional engagement. These three elements demonstrate strong alignment with the principles of the Merdeka Curriculum, which emphasizes student-centered learning and character development. The study concludes that the deep learning approach is relevant and effective in supporting the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in Fiqh learning within a pesantren-based madrasah context.
