Abstract

This paper focuses on personal digital records and their relation to social media as an alternative storage. Social media can be used as an alternative for digital personal files storage regardless their forms. The research method is literary study, combining primary and secondary data from archival and communication studies, and content analysis. Two important things of managing digital records are storage and back-up systems. There are three types of the repository: online, offline and nearline. The storage is a preliminary stage to developing digital records management.

Abstract

This paper aims to find out how many records in the Ministry of Manpower's Records Retention Schedule (JRA) that are to be appraised as archival records or in regular cases having permanent value. By using content analysis method, the results of this study state that there are 177 records series (26.62%) of Ministry of Manpower's Retention Schedule which are stated as permanent. The theoretical implications are against archival theory in general which states that the number of archival records in an organization are roughly 1% to 10%. This high percentage can be attributed to Derrida's ‘archive fever’ concept that both records managers and archivists are afraid of losing memory from the Ministry of Manpower's archival records. This effort to give meaning is temporary because it departs from latest findings and is a limitation of quantitative content analysis methods. It is a must to develop further research among others by using phenomenological method.

Abstract

This research describes new trends of archivist’s roles in the Archives of University of Indonesia. Technological, social and educational development realm have been influencing these new roles. Collaboration and communication should take place between archivist, librarian and researcher for any different roles as records manager, educator and researcher. Apart from his/ her own expertise in archival principles, archivist should have more skills and specialties in accordance with technological and social development. This research aims to identify the archivist’s roles in an university archives, in this case the Archives of University of Indonesia. This is a qualitative research. The data is collected by observing, interview and literature studies. The informants are choosen by applying purpossive sampling method that include among others the chairwoman and the qualified archivists of the archives. The result shows that the evolving roles of the archivist could develop the archives’ achievement in turn. These new roles are including digital archivist, researcher and educator. Apart from those, archivist should maintain his/ her roles as past guardian and librarian-archivist.

Abstract

Administration business are all forms of activities done by administrator start from making, legalizing, implementing and evaluating policy. Those activities are records-connected. Records are source of implementing administrative businesses all the way from bottom to top. The research aims to observe the records use of administration businesses at the city of Yogyakarta. This research uses records management and administration businesses principles, and mix method wherein data triangulation are gathered through simple survey, interview and observation. The results are records are needed for implementing administration businesses at the city of Yogyakarta. The needs of skillful resources of archivist, records storing and records maintaining are to be next priorities for records management at the city of Yogyakarta.

Abstract

Handleiding voor Het Ordenen en Beschrijven van Archieven or simply known as Dutch Manual is the first codified archival standard succeeded in combining provenance and original order as the first twin pillars of archiving. In the nineteenth century the twin originated from France and German were separated. In order to do arrangement and description in archiving, the twin have to be completely understood. As the previous four archival standards (ISAD-G, ISAAR, ISDF, and ISDIAH) of International Council on Archives make the influence of Dutch Manual clear, the same goes for the latest archival standard. This paper describes the continuity and change of the two since they are combined within Dutch Manual, followed by various national standards and currently applied in Records in Contexts, the single and latest archival standard.
