The Journal of Education For Sustainable Innovation is a peer-reviewed journal that publishes empirical as well as research articles, reports, and essays relating to all aspects of the emerging field of Education for Sustainable Innovation as it is practiced in formal primary and secondary schools, colleges and universities, community organizations, government agencies, businesses and nonprofit organizations around the world. The primary aim of JESI is to enrich the academic sphere with research achievements and to share insights regarding education for sustainable innovation. This encompasses theories, instructional quality, planning, design, and technology, approached from both disciplinary and interdisciplinary standpoints, though not restricted solely to these topics. The journal invites articles from the field of environmental education which pioneered much of the work in education for sustainable innovation, as well as from all diverse disciplines as part of the urgent need to integrate education thinking and practice into every aspect of human activity.

Abstract

In this study, word dynamics, co-occurring phrases, and keyword frequency in the area of androgenetic alopecia were thoroughly analysed during a ten-year period. The study tracks changes in word usage, frequency, and context and identifies variations in the distribution and usage patterns of keywords, subjects, and co-occurring phrases using natural language processing techniques and graph theory-based approaches. The research reveals hidden linkages and patterns between diverse ideas, shedding light on the co-occurrence patterns of numerous phrases in the literature on androgenetic alopecia. The study emphasises the value of clearly visualising and disseminating findings to a large audience. In order to communicate the findings of the 10-year trend analysis to patrons, legislatures, and other pertinent audiences, data visualisation tools, infographics, and reports are used. This makes sure that the results are useful, effective, and easily accessible so that they can guide the creation of policies and decisions pertaining to androgenetic alopecia. The results of this study may have substantial ramifications for academics, medical professionals, policymakers, and other industry participants. The research can lead future research paths, prioritise research areas, and suggest areas that require additional examination by highlighting key research challenges and pointing out gaps in the study of androgenetic alopecia. Identifying emergent study issues, analysing the changing patterns in the area, and establishing research strategies can all benefit from an analysis of word dynamics and correlations among terms. The results reveal hidden relationships and patterns, advance knowledge of the research environment in this area, and influence androgenetic alopecia research objectives and policies.

Abstract

The concept of 21st-century pedagogies is the creative use of technological-aided teaching methods for the benefit of the students based on the prevailing situation.  The pedagogies include the use of technology integration, collaborative learning, student-centred learning, flipped classroom and gamification and game-based learning usually student-centred.  The concept of pedagogy in Nigeria, as in many other countries, refers to the strategies, methods, and approaches employed in the teaching and learning process.  The paper identified skills development, technology integration, increased student engagement, collaborative learning and teacher professional development as some potential that significantly contribute to enhancing the quality of education and equipping students with employable skills needed to succeed in the world of work.  The paper identified technology barriers, teacher training and professional development, large class sizes, curricular rigidity, resistance to change and limited resources as some of the challenges confronting the use of 21st-century pedagogies in educational institutions in Nigeria.  However, policy reforms, teacher training and professional development, technology integration, partnerships and research and monitoring are suggested as remedial plans to improve the use of 21st-century pedagogies in Nigerian schools.

Abstract

This qualitative study explores the impact of teaching aids on the academic performance of seventh-grade natural science learners at a selected school in the Kunene Region. The research focuses on understanding how instructional aids affect student comprehension, engagement, and overall academic achievement. A purposive sampling technique was used to select 10 seventh-grade students and two science teachers for semi-structured interviews, providing in-depth insights into their experiences with teaching aids in the classroom. Data were analyzed thematically, revealing key subthemes that illustrate the positive effects of teaching aids on learning outcomes. Results indicate that teaching aids, such as charts, models, and laboratory equipment, enhance understanding of concepts, increase student engagement, improve academic performance, promote critical thinking, and foster collaborative learning. However, the study acknowledges a significant limitation: its focus on a single region, which limits the generalizability of the findings to other contexts. Recommendations for educators and policymakers include investing in a variety of teaching aids, incorporating interactive learning techniques, and fostering collaborative learning environments. The study also suggests further research with larger sample sizes, across multiple regions, and using quantitative methods to validate and expand on these findings. Additionally, a longitudinal approach to understanding the long-term impact of teaching aids on educational outcomes is proposed as an area for future study. The insights gained from this study contribute to the ongoing discourse on effective teaching practices and underscore the importance of providing adequate resources to support natural science education.

Abstract

The main objective of this study was to explore the influence of English as a medium of instruction on students’ academic Performance at Arusha Technical College in Tanzania. This came after observing how the two languages: Kiswahili and English act as medium of instruction from lower to the higher levels of education respectively. English, as a second language in Tanzania, and a medium of instruction in higher learning institutions has shown discrepancies in students’ academic performance. Therefore, the study focused mainly on three specific objectives: to explore the use of English as a medium of instruction in terms of teachers’/students’ competency and confidence of students at Arusha Technical College, to describe the student’s academic performance in terms of proficiency in EMI, continuous assessment, and semester examination of students at Arusha Technical College, and to determine the relationship between the use of English as a Medium of instruction and the student’s academic performance in Tanzania. The study employed a quantitative research method specifically using descriptive and correlational research design. The secondary data were collected through a literature review; while the primary data were obtained through a self-constructed questionnaire. Questionnaire data were analyzed through the use of the Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 24 (SPSS). The study used a sample size of 100 respondents from Arusha Technical College where the English language is used as a medium of instruction. The results of the study revealed that most students had sufficient English language mastery due to the background of their previous education level. This fact led to the understanding and success in speaking and writing good English. Further, the findings showed that the lecturers used code-switching and translation strategies to enable students to understand the lessons. The study recommends a need for further research to be conducted on other institutions of higher learning to make rational decisions about usefulness of the language of instruction.

Abstract

This study examines the psychometric properties of the GSP122 test, an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) knowledge assessment administered at a public university in Nigeria. Despite its importance in evaluating students' ICT competencies, no prior attempt has been made to investigate the test's psychometric qualities. The research focuses on three key aspects: item reliability, Differential Item Functioning (DIF), and Wright Map analysis. The study employs Rasch analysis to evaluate these properties. A sample of 600 GSP122 test scripts was randomly selected from undergraduate students across various departments to ensure a representative assessment. Findings reveal that the test possesses strong item reliability, indicating consistency in measuring the intended construct. Furthermore, all items are found to be DIF-free, suggesting fairness across different subgroups of test-takers. The Wright Map analysis, however, indicates that the test doesn't accurately target the abilities of students at the extreme ends and bottom of the proficiency spectrum. Specifically, some items are identified as too difficult and too easy relative to the students' ability levels. These results provide valuable insights into the GSP122 test's strengths and areas for improvement. While the test demonstrates robustness in reliability and fairness, adjustments in item difficulty could enhance its effectiveness in assessing students across all proficiency levels. This comprehensive analysis contributes to the validation of the GSP122 test and offers a foundation for evidence-based refinements in ICT assessment practices within the Nigerian higher education context.

Abstract

The study examined the effect of flipped learning on the student’s interest in Physics and learning experiences between a flipped classroom and a conventional classroom. A quasi-experimental pre-test/post-test control group design was adopted for this study. An intact class sample of 45 students as the experimental group and 50 control group of SS 2 students that offered Physics were used for this study from two senior secondary schools in Lagos State. The Questionnaire with a reliability coefficient (r) of 0.84 was instrumentally used for data collection for this study. the study’s data were analyzed to get frequency counts, mean, and standard deviation and interpreted at p < 0.05 level of significance. This study’s results revealed that the flipped learning method significantly affected students' interest in Physics, and students acquired more excellent learning experiences whenever they were exposed to a flipped classroom than a conventional classroom. Concerning the findings of this study, it is highly recommended that secondary school teachers should always be ready to utilise innovative teaching techniques that will boost students’ interest in learning Physics and other subjects exceptionally, and creatively stimulate students’ learning experiences in all ramifications among others.

Abstract

Teacher leadership is needed in every learning institution. It empowers teachers to play proactive roles in shaping educational settings. The researcher of this study determined the levels of secondary teachers’ leadership and perceived support from the school management and utilized a quantitative descriptive survey design and used adopted questionnaire. The study subjects were 64 secondary school teachers in Juban I and II Districts. The distribution of participants was as follows: six from Olimpio A. Guarin Jr. National High School, five from Lajong National High School, one from Biriran National High School, six from Guruyan National High School, 44 from Juban National High School, and two from Sablayan National High School, and the data were collected through Google Forms. Moreover, the researcher utilized the weighted mean and Pearson correlation coefficient in analyzing the gathered data. Findings revealed that the secondary school teachers agreed (3.65) on the level of teacher leadership and agreed (3.55) on the level of school management support as perceived. Furthermore, there was a weak relationship between the levels of secondary school teachers’ leadership and perceived support from the school management. The researcher recommended that the leadership levels of secondary school teachers in Juban I and II districts should be sustainably promoted and enhanced. Support from school management for teacher leadership is essential. There should be a strong relationship between teachers and school management to achieve effective leadership. Additionally, action research should be conducted to improve teacher leadership and school management in the Juban I and II districts.

Abstract

Large Language Models (LLMs) are very large deep learning models pre-trained on a vast amount of data. This article aims to provide an overview of the use of major language models in the field of software engineering from January 2021 to February 2024. It surveys the emerging area of Large Language Modeling in Software Engineering but acknowledges that to fully understand the issues, effects, and limitations of LLMs in this field, further research is needed. The article also highlights open research challenges for applying Large Language Models to technical problems faced by software engineers. The exceptional properties of LLMs bring novelty and creativity to applications within Software Engineering activities, including coding, design, requirements, repair, refactoring, performance improvement, documentation, and analytics. Our survey demonstrates the key role of reliable and efficient large language models in the development and deployment of Software Engineering.

Abstract

This study evaluated the roles of teacher counsellors and school administrators in promoting guidance and counselling programmes in some selected secondary schools in the metropolis of Sokoto state. Descriptive survey design was used in this study. The participants in this study comprise 35 teacher counsellors, students, 15 school administrators, and 200 students in five selected public senior secondary schools in Sokoto metropolis. The sample size (250 respondents) of the study was obtained using simple random sampling technique. Data were collected from the participants using three sets of questionnaires. This finding showed that majority of the respondents indicated their agreements on all the stated counsellors’ and administrators’ roles in enhancing guidance and counselling programmes in secondary schools. This finding indicated that integrated guidance and counselling services in schools help to create conducive learning environment, identify and address the students’ educational, social, emotional, and behavioral needs as well as enhancing their academic performance. There is need for collaboration between teacher counsellors and school administrators to promote guidance and counselling programmes in secondary schools.

Abstract

Generative AI's effect on inclusive education is a revolutionary potential in strengthening the branding strategies of educational institutions dedicated to inclusive education is examined in branding and sustainability. It answers important research questions on how generative AI is now being used in branding, the technological settings it provides for students from marginalized backgrounds, and the benefits and problems that come with it. According to result, generative AI can enhance accessibility through adaptive technologies, personalize outreach through tailored messages, and boost engagement through immersive and gamified learning environments. It also encourages the production of varied content and gripping narratives that showcase the accomplishments of underrepresented students. Challenges and opportunities are also revealed by the study, such as the need for appropriate data management to preserve student trust and ethical concerns over bias in AI models. Implementation efforts are made more difficult by technical constraints like guaranteeing the caliber and accessibility of AI-generated material. All things considered, this study highlights how generative AI might promote sustainability and inclusion in education while highlighting the necessity of resolving these issues to optimize its effects.
