Abstract

The purpose of this research is to make interactive learning media for mathematical problem solving ability of junior high school students in grade VIII on chance material. Plomp's development model, which consists of initial analysis, development, and assessment, was used in this study. The instruments used in this study were questionnaires, interviews, and tests, while the data analysis techniques used were descriptive statistics and descriptive techniques. Learner analysis, curriculum, concepts, and learner characteristics were studied during the initial analysis phase. Multimedia-based interactive learning media were created during the development phase and tested on learners in two evaluation stages: one-on-one and small group. During the assessment phase, the effect of using the learning media on learners' ability to solve mathematical problems was evaluated. The results showed that the intuitive learning media on the subject of probability has been declared valid, functional (practical), and effective (at the small collection stage). This media is considered valid because of its logical presentation, content, language, and graphics, as well as its development in accordance with the principles of scientific knowledge. It is also useful because it is easy to use and follows established rules. This media also utilizes time well, is interesting, and easy to understand. This learning media is also effective because it can help students in practicing their ability to solve math problems. Keywords– Interactive Learning Media Development, Multimedia, Probability, Mathematics Problem Solving Ability.

Abstract

The success of students in learning mathematics can be seen from the results obtained after participating in learning activities. Results of learning mathematics eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 24 Padang still low, because they are less active in learning. Solutions to cope this problem is using the STAD model. The purpose of this study is to analyze and compare the mathematics learning outcomes of students who use models STAD learning and those using the direct learning model, as well as describing the development of mathematics learning outcomes of student who used the STAD learning model. This Quasi-experiment used the Nonequivalent Posttest Only Control Group Design. The results of data analysis with the t test, obtained ? −value < 0.05, indicating that the mathematics learning outcomes of students who use the STAD learning model are better than the direct learning model. Based on value increase quizzes and analysis of final test data, it was concluded that the STAD learning model positive effect on students' mathematics learning outcomes.Keywords– Student Team Achievement Division, Direct Learning, Mathematics Learning Outcomes.

Abstract

The ability to understand mathematical concepts of students at UNP Laboratory Development High School is still not optimal. One of the efforts to improve the ability to understand students' mathematical concepts is to apply Contextual Teaching and Learning in learning mathematics. This study aims to find out whether the ability to understand mathematical concepts of students whose learning uses the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) model is better than the ability to understand concepts using direct learning in class XI IIS SMA Development Laboratory UNP. This study uses a type of quasi-experimental research. The population in this study were all students in class XI IIS SMA Development Laboratory UNP for the academic year 2022/2023. Sampling was carried out using a simple random sampling technique. After carrying out the sampling steps, class XI IIS 1 was selected as the experimental class and class XI IIS 2 as the control class. The test instrument used is a test of the ability to understand mathematical concepts. The results showed that the students' ability to understand mathematical concepts in the class that applied the CTL model was better than the ability to understand concepts in the class that applied direct learning in class XI IIS SMA Pembangunan Laboratory UNP. Abstract

This research aimed to evaluate the comparison between two instructional models, namely the Connecting, Organizing, Reflecting, and Extending (CORE) model and direct instruction, on the mathematical concept comprehension of 12th-grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Payakumbuh. The research method employed a quasi-experimental approach with two sample groups, one as the experimental group implementing the CORE model, and the other as the control group receiving direct instruction. The results of the study indicated that students who underwent the CORE model demonstrated a better understanding of mathematical concepts compared to those who received direct instruction. These findings are relevant for enhancing the quality of mathematics education at the high school level and illustrate that interactive learning approaches like CORE can improve understanding of mathematical concept, particularly when adapted to students' needs. Keywords — Understanding of mathematical concepts, CORE, Direct learning

Abstract

Mathematical literacy has a significant posision in mathematics learning, because this knowledge be able to formulate, employ, and interpret mathematic in a variety of contexs.  Several research have shown that ability is still low. This also happened at SMP Negeri 1 Payakumbuh best on the test result given to students class VIII. One solution to improve this ability is apply the Formulate Share Listen Create (FSLC) cooperative learning model. The aim of this research was to see the effect of the FSLC model on the mathematical literacy ability in class VIII. The type of research is a pre-experiment with one-shot case study design. The instruments of this research are mathematical literacy competence test and quiz. Abstract

One of the ability needed to help students learn mathematics is mathematical communication ability. However, class VIII students of SMPN 3 Pariaman still have low mathematical communication ability. This is because students' mathematical communication ability have not increased using conventional learning models that have been used so far. The pair check cooperative learning model is considered a model that can overcome this problem. The static group research design was used with a quasi-experimental research type. Simple Random Sampling is used to perform the sampling procedure. Quizzes and tests of mathematical communication ability are the instruments used. T test is then used to test the hypothesis. The results of data analysis show that the P-value is 0.000, which means rejecting H0. Thus it can be concluded that class VIII students of SMPN 3 Pariaman who study with the pair check model are better than conventional learning models. Keywords. – Mathematical Communication Abilities, Cooperative Learning, Pair Check

Abstract

Problem solving ability is one aspect that is the main focus of learning. Students use the knowledge they already have to solve the given problem. One way to solve the problem is to use Polya's steps, namely understanding the problem, planning a solution, implementing a settlement plan, and checking again. The low ability of students' mathematical problem solving is caused by the habits of students in solving problems according to what is taught by the teacher and the lack of giving mathematical problem solving questions which results in students lacking skills in solving mathematical problem solving ability questions. Based on these problems, the formulation of the research problem is how the mathematical problem solving abilities of SMP Adabiah Padang students in the material of Triangles and Quadrilaterals are viewed from Polya's steps. This study aims to describe and analyze students' mathematical problem-solving skills using Polya's steps on triangles and quadrilaterals in class VIII SMP Adabiah. This type of research is descriptive in nature, because the research subjects were selected using the target sampling method. Tests and interviews were used as data collection methods, while the analytical methods used in this study were descriptive analysis and data triangulation. As a result, the average score of mathematical problem solving abilities at the problem understanding stage is 0,48, the average score at the calculation planning stage is 0,45, and the average score at the calculation plan implementation stage is 0,37. And 0.18  at the verification step. Therefore, the lowest average score is reviewed in the last step, and the highest average score is taken as the problem understanding step.Keywords– Problem-Solving, Polya's steps, Triangle and rectangular

Abstract

The capability to communicate in the context of mathematics has an impact on mathematics learning outcomes. When students have effective communication skills, they can convey mathematical answers, concepts accurately and precisely. However, many students still lack proficient communication abilities in the mathematical context. One applicable model for enhancing students' abilities in communicating mathematical concepts is by utilizing the Guided Discovery Learning model. The aim of this study is to identify and evaluate whether students engaged in education through the Guided Discovery Learning model display better performance compared to those taught applying the direct instructional model in the eighth grade at SMPN 22 Padang. The research design used is a quasi-experiment employing a Non-equivalent posttest-only control group approach, conducted in the eighth-grade classrooms at SMPN 22 Padang. Sampling was conducted using a straightforward random sampling method, with Class VIII D chosen as the experimental group and Class VIII F as the control group. The instrument used is a final assessment of mathematical communication abilities Data analysis results indicated  P-value = 0.002 ( .) This outcome suggests that the overall mathematical communication abilities of students were educated using the Guided Discovery Learning model surpassed those who were instructed through the direct teaching method.Keywords– Mathematical communication skill, Guided Discovery Learning, Direct Learning

Abstract

Mathematical communication is important aspect that must be achieved in mathematics learning. Based on the observations results at SMPN 15 Padang, it shows that the skills of communication in mathematical of class VIII students are still not optimal. Efforts to overcome this problem are in the shape of implementing the Formulate-Share-Listen-Create (FSLC) model. The research purpose was to find out whether the skills of communication in mathematical of students who studied using the FSLC cooperative model were better than students who learned using the direct learning model with direct. This research type is a quasi-experiment with the nonequivalent posttest-only control group design. The research population was class VIII students of SMPN 15 Padang for the 2022/2023 learning year. This research used technique by simple random sampling. The instrument for research was in the shape of a final test of mathematical communication skills. Based on the final test of the hypothesis test obtained p-value = 0.008, which means rejecting H0. Abstract

Understanding of mathhematical concept is one of the objective of learning matematics which is expected to be well mastered by students. But in fact, students understanding of matematical concepts is still low. This can also be seen in class VIII IT Dar El-Iman Padang Middle School. One of the effort that can be made to increase students understanding of mathematical concept is to apply the Number Heads Together cooperative learning model. The instrument used was a test of understanding mathematical concepts in the form of essay quations which were analyzed by t-test. Basedd on the results of data analyzed obtained P-value = 0.032, less than α = 0.05, meaning that the understanding of mathematicall concepts of students who learn with the cooperative learning model of the Number Heads Together type is better than the undertanding of mathematical concept of students who learn with direct learningg model in class VIII SMP IT Dar El-Iman Padang.Keywords– Understanding of mathematical concepts, NHT, Direct  learning
