Abstract

The socioeconomic and environmental potential of cashew nut production in Bangladesh's Ranganati Hill District is examined in this study while emphasizing the crop's potential as a cash crop for rural development. With yields of 1.4 to 1.8 tons per hectare and net returns exceeding those of conventional crops, cashew farming—which was first promoted by the Department of Agricultural Extension and the Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board—has proven very profitable. This study explores the socio-economic viability of cashew nut farming in Rangamati, Bangladesh, as a sustainable alternative for rural livelihoods. Despite advantageous agro-climatic conditions, the industry nevertheless confronts obstacles, including weak marketing infrastructure, insufficient financial facilities, and restricted availability of high-quality planting supplies. Sixty farmers participated in the research, which was carried out in eight Ranganati upazilas. It used primary and secondary data to examine the variables that affect cashew production, such as land types, seedling sources, cultivation expenses, and economic profitability. According to the findings, steep hills were the favoured land type, and 63% of farmers switched to cashew growing because it was profitable. Most farmers paid between 11.000 and 15.000 Taka a year for cultivation and obtained seedlings from the Upazila Agriculture Office (UAO). With domestic pricing between 500 and 600 BDT per kilogram and production costs between 300 and 350 BDT, cashew cultivation exhibits strong economic viability, resulting in a 95–100% profit margin. However, the sector's expansion is hampered by a lack of high-quality processing facilities and training. The research comes to the conclusion that cashew farming may greatly boost rural employment, poverty alleviation, and GDP development in Bangladesh with the right governmental support, infrastructural investment, and capacity building

Abstract

Our article aims to promote the link between intermediate production of skin and leather goods and intra-regional trade in Mali within the ECOWAS region. Indeed, it first examines the importance of large-scale industrial processing units with approximately 76% of total tanning of skins produced in Mali (Table 3). Then the article shows that the intra-regional trade flows of skin and leather from Mali illustrate the importance of size in the intra-regional trade relationship (Figure 4). Finally, the article identified the profile of the actors operating in ECOWAS intra-regional trade in intermediate production of skin and leather goods. This mainly concerns the profile of suppliers and demanders in intermediate production activities of skin and leather goods. On the other hand, the economic literature remains poorly documented on the subject, especially very specifically for our region. Among the studies that are interested in our subject, we can cite: that of Bassolé (2022) and Dabié Désiré Axel NASSA (2005). Regarding the methodology used, it is mainly based on the Bassolé thesis (2022), carried out in two stages on the profile of the actors operating in ECOWAS intra-regional trade.

Abstract

Insecurity is the phenomenon of being in a state where you are subject to danger or injury. It is the anxiety one experiences when he feels vulnerable and insecure. Therefore, this research study aims to investigate the causes of insecurity and the plight of rural dwellers in the Bauchi Local Government Area of Bauchi State. However, the specific objectives of the study are to examine the nature and trends of insecurity, investigate causes of insecurity, find out the strategies that can be adopted to manage insecurity challenges, and understand the perceptions of people about insecurity in the Bauchi Local Government Area of Bauchi State. We used a sample size of 100 respondents, consisting of adult males and females from four wards of the local government under study. The study adopted Durkheim's Theory of suicide. The study employed analytical tools such as frequency and percentage. We adopted both primary and secondary sources for data collection. In the field study and analysis, it was discovered that several illegal armed groups, ethnic militia groups, religious fundamentalists, and fanatics are evidence of insecurity in Nigeria. These groups have given rise to a series of incidents such as bombings, murders, arson, armed robberies, banditry, kidnapping, corruption, and injustice, all of which we hear about every day. These happenings are negatively affecting the Bauchi Local Government area in the Bauchi State of Nigeria politically, religiously, and culturally. Religious organizations and other humanitarian agencies are losing confidence in law enforcement agencies. This work, therefore, examines and shows the causes and effects of the political, religious, and cultural implications of insecurity in Nigeria. According to this research, there is a threat of political, economic, and civil destabilization if the trend of insecurity persists. This study recommends a stiffer penalty for perpetrators of violence and equipping law enforcement agencies with modern technological weapons, allowances, and proper recordkeeping.

Abstract

This study discusses the vital role of social workers in assisting the recovery process of individuals with drug addiction (NAPZA) at Grapiks Foundation, a social rehabilitation institution in Bandung, Indonesia. Addiction to addictive substances not only affects physical and mental health but also disrupts a person’s social life. Therefore, recovery of addiction requires a holistic approach involving medical, psychological, social, and spiritual aspects. This research uses a qualitative approach through interviews to understand how social workers at Grapiks Foundation support clients in restoring their social functioning. The findings show that social workers act as companions, educators, facilitators, and connectors between clients and their social environment. They apply various methods such as counseling, motivational therapy, life skills training, and spiritual-religious approaches. The main challenges in this process include the risk of relapse and the clients’ low awareness of their condition. These are addressed through empathetic support, family involvement, and continuous education. This study highlights the crucial role of social workers in helping individuals reintegrate into society as productive members.
