Polyhedron International Journal in Mathematics Education (PIJME) journal aims to stimulate discussions at all levels of mathematics education through disseminating significant and innovative scholarly studies that are of value to the international research communities. The journal welcomes articles focusing on all aspects of mathematics education including empirical, theoretical, methodological, and philosophical works that have a perspective wider than local or national interest. PIJME publishes only original scholarly works. Manuscripts that are indeed a derivative or replication/duplication (if there is not clear reason, justification) of previous work are not accepted and will not be published in PIJME. Please do not submit the same manuscript simultaneously or separately to PIJME with another journal. In such cases the responsibility solely rests with the author(s).

Abstract

Cognitive diagnostic models (CDMs) are multidimensional multivariate verification flow models with complex structure. In this research, these models were used to investigate the status of eighth grade high school students in mathematics using the TIMMS questionnaire. The cognitive diagnostic test based on 13 attributes including 32 questions was conducted on a sample of 274 students who were selected based on the multi-stage cluster sampling method among the students of Firuzkoh city. IRT and RESMA models were used to determine the psychometric properties of the questions. Data analysis using DINA and DINO models in cognitive diagnostic mathematics modeling showed that 13 attributes explain the mathematical performance of eighth-grade students. The result shows that Afghan students have a weak mastery level in most features compared to 45 other countries (the countries that were included in the TIMMS questionnaire) also, general results show that the examinees perform better in the field of numbers (0.49), while they perform worse in data and chance (0.12 ). Moreover, some difference exists in estimating item parameters under the DINA and DINO model, such as Item 3 and Item 27. One possible explanation is that the DINA model is completely compensatory while the DINO model is fully non-compensatory. Similar to the results under the DINA model, the SEs of guessing parameters are lower than those of slipping parameters under the DINO model.

Abstract

This study presents a bibliometric analysis of open and distance learning (ODL) literature to explore the impact of new technologies, temporal trends in research, and the influence of open pedagogy and educational resources on learner engagement and inclusion. Utilizing Scopus as the primary data source for its comprehensive coverage and analytical capabilities, a dataset was curated using specific keywords and analyzed through VosViewer. The results demonstrate a significant increase in ODL publications, indicative of growing scholarly interest and a diverse, global research community. Key findings reveal a network of influential institutions and scholars central to ODL, with highly cited documents highlighting foundational research and prevalent themes. The analysis underscores the importance of technological, pedagogical, strategic, and evaluative themes, signifying the complex and interdisciplinary nature of ODL. Suggestions for future research include qualitative analyses to understand ODL's progression and longitudinal studies to gauge the influence of global events on ODL practices. Collaborative and cross-disciplinary efforts are encouraged to innovate educational modalities. The study’s implications reflect ODL's growing relevance in educational policy and practice, the influence of key scholars and institutions in shaping ODL discourse, and the strategic research focus that may dictate future educational developments. This analysis charts the trajectory of ODL, contributing to its strategic evolution and enduring relevance in education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the ability of SL using statistical literacy ability test questions integrated with Indonesian education issues through a quantitative descriptive research approach to 116 students of the Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program at Muhammadiyah University Muara Bungo. The results showed that students were still low in Statistical Literacy skills. These results can be seen from 75% of students who scored below 60 and 25% of students who scored above 60 on the Statistical Literacy ability test. Then, it can be seen from the average ability of students to solve SL test questions based on Indicators, namely 71.33% in indicator 1, 53.16% in indicator 2, and 57.18% in indicator 3. At the same time, the average student who is able to solve SL questions is 28.67% in indicator 1, 46.84% in indicator 2, and 42.82% in indicator 3. Based on in-depth interviews, researchers see the main factor in the low SL ability of students being that they have not mastered descriptive statistics. The main factor that helps students solve SL questions is the Indonesian Education Issue approach. Researcher suggest that further research needs to be done that can improve students' SL skills through the application of learning models, the development of learning models, or the application of learning strategies to solve SL problems.

Abstract

This service is motivated by a Ministry of Education and Culture, Research and Technology program, namely Independent Learning Campus (MBKM) through Teaching Campus activities. The Teaching Campus was introduced and implemented in 2020; now, it has reached 6. The Teaching Campus program aims to open up space for students from various tertiary institutions to assist the learning process from various schools in Indonesia, which are in the 3T areas (Disadvantaged, Frontier, and Outermost). One of the schools where the 6 Teaching Campus program is implemented is SMPN 2 Lenek. The program's scope that students have implemented during assignments is to help improve students' abilities in literacy and numeracy, assist teachers in improving the quality of learning through technological and administrative adaptation assistance, and develop students' character. The results obtained while implementing the 6 Teaching Campus activity program positively impacted students' numeracy literacy skills, character development, and teachers' abilities to adapt to technology. Students become more fluent in reading and understanding the contents of the books they read, they get used to being disciplined and responsible for the tasks given, and teachers use technology to create learning media in the learning process.

Abstract

Lines and angles are quite important mathematical concepts. This is proven because lines and angles cannot be separated in life. However, lines and angles actually become a problem/obstacle in the classroom. The purpose of this research is to determine the description of students' learning obstacles in the material on lines and angles for class VIII MTs NW Pringgajurang, then a didactic design for learning lines and angles will be prepared. The research design used is didactical design research-interpretive. The participants in this research were Class VIII students at MTs NW Pringgajurang with an age range of 12 to 14 years. The researcher is the main instrument in this research, with several additional instruments such as tests for understanding lines and angles, student biodata, interview guides and didactic designs for lines and angles. The data analysis technique used in this research is thematic data analysis. This thematic analysis is used as a basic foundation for the analytical process in qualitative research, by paying attention to the results of the data collection carried out. The results of the research show that students experience learning obstacles with ontogenic psychological and ontogenic conceptual types. With this Android-based didactic design, it is hoped that it will be able to minimize barriers to students' learning on line and angle material at MTs NW Pringgajurang.
