Abstract

This study aims to determine e-research on the Digital Service Library of Universitas Sumatera Utara in supporting the mission of Universitas Sumatera Utara as a research university. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Research informants are users of Digital Services, namely Lecturers and Postgraduate Students who are conducting research. Informants were taken using snowball sampling. During the data collection process, eleven key informants were netted, namely six lecturers, five postgraduate students. One additional informant is the Digital Service Librarian. The results showed that e-research at the Digital Service Library of Universitas Sumatera Utara was first, information retrieval, namely the assistance provided by librarians to users in finding references relevant to the research topic. Second, e-resources, namely electronic information sources: e-repository, e-journal, e-thesis, and e-dissertation. Third, information literacy, namely training on the use of online databases, e-journal and e-book searches. Fourth, global network, namely internet facilities with bandwidth 30 Mbps and wifi for library users who are doing research. The conclusion that can be drawn is that e-research in the Digital Services Library of Universitas Sumatera Utara has supported the mission of Universitas Sumatera Utara as a research university. Digital Services has acted as a mediator and facilitator in research activities at Universitas Sumatera Utara. The facilities in Digital Services are used to build research excellence and maintain the status of Universitas Sumatera Utara as a global research university.

Abstract

Librarians have a role as an element of driving and organizing library services. Librarian's performance is a determining factor for the continuity of library life. Whether the library is good or not is closely related to how the services are provided to users. Therefore, the authors are going to analyze the extent to the performance of librarians. Providing services to users is described from the aspect of knowledge and abilities of librarians. The results showed that the librarian's performance was good and the user gave a positive impression in the attitude of the librarian, to provide service in a polite and friendly manner, showing the concern of a responsive and attitude in directing to the collection. It shows that the librarian worked professionally and responsibly. As a recommendation, the library is able to increase the number of library officers in order to maximize performance, especially in user services.

Abstract

Diaspora problem is part of library studies which is interested to be researched. Indonesia is a state whose strategic place for diaspora community in the past. Arabs and Tionghoas diaspora were two diaspora communities which settled Indonesian regions. Study about diaspora does undoubtedly not received more attention yet from library studies perspective.Even though the research is highly important to enrich multidisciplinary aspect within library studies. The aim of this research analyzes information regarding Arabs and Tionghoa diaspora communities in rare newspaper collection of National Library of Indonesia. The result of this research is that the National Library deposits rare newspaper collection indicating the existence of diaspora communities globally. This research uses history approach on viewing newspaper as National Libraryof Indonesia’s collection. The conclusion of this research is that the National Library does not merely posses importance meaning for local community within scope of nation state, however, that for diaspora community in the global scale.

Abstract

Advertising is an effective marketing medium in influencing the target market. In the Ponds advertisement, boxing training and libraries as the content became interesting research objects because there were reactions from the audience of the advertisements which indirectly showed how the perspective of libraries among Z generation. This study used a qualitative approach with a critical paradigm to reveal social representations and realities in Ponds advertisements on television and on YouTube channels. Data collection techniques was used documentation and interviews with 10 Z generation informants who have watched the Pond’s White Beauty Facial Foam ads. Data analysis used Stuart Hall reception analysis to analyze the meanings behind the messages conveyed by the Ponds advertisement. Result and discussion showed that the library was described as unfavorite places among the millennial generation on frame of Ponds advertisement. Social reality was obtained that the millennial generation sees the library as the place to read the books and they do not need to go to the library anymore to read. Furthermore, the Ponds advertisement content gave denotative and connotative meanings at the same time. Understanding of libraries needs to be done so as not to trigger misunderstandings among stakeholders, causing negative stigma and stereotypes. The strategy was rebranding the library with an approach to internal and external aspects. Conclusion, the library rebranding effort is a solution to improve the stigma and stereotypes that develop in society. The effectiveness of the rebranding process is determined by the interaction between stakeholders.

Abstract

This scientific paper discusses the manuscript acquisition strategy carried out by the National Library of Indonesia in an effort to improve reading materials and literacy of the Indonesian people. This writing aims to see the course of the manuscript acquisition strategy carried out by the National Library of Indonesia Press along with the strengths and weaknesses found from this strategy. The method used in this study is a qualitative method. The type or research design used is descriptive research. The data collection techniques were carried out by means of literature review, interviews, and observations. Data analysis techniques were carried out through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of literature review, observation, and author interviews at the National Library of Indonesia show that the manuscript acquisition strategy carried out by the National Library of Indonesia Press is that the title of the book has been determined, the author’s request, and collaboration/cooperation. The results also found that the three strategies found their respective advantages and disadvantages. These three strategies can increase the number of publications in the form of books at the National Library of Indonesia Press so that with these efforts it is expected to help the Government improve reading materials and literacy of the Indonesian people.

Abstract

Circular No.36962/MPK.A/HK/2020 it was decided that online learning and working from home are for breaking the chain of the spread of covid19. The application of the online teaching and learning system is a means of proving the professional competence of librarians as a link of information between information sources and information users. The library law number 43 of 2007 states that a librarian is someone who has a competence. Based on several problems that exist in the online learning system in universities, especially at the Raden Intan State Islamic University Lampung (UIN-RIL), this paper raises a problem formulation, namely How Library Strategies Support Online Learning at Raden Intan State Islamic University Lampung. The method used in this research is qualitative with qualitative descriptive type. This study also reveals attitudes, events, relationships and views that occur in a scope of respondents. This study places more emphasis on the results. This study uses observation and interviews to strengthen the research analysis. Discussion of Library Service Transformation consists of Online Catalog, Circulation thru Service and Institutional Repository, Digital Promotion Information Communication and Mobile Library. Success in learning during a pandemic cannot be separated from the role of libraries and librarians in preparing strategically in providing library collection information or alternative sources of information.
