Abstract

North Sumatra education, as measured by the Average Length of School (RLS), has consistently increased in the 2018-2022 period. However, with a fairly high RLS rate compared to other provinces, the economic performance of North Sumatra Province grew slower than Jambi and South Sumatra Provinces. Likewise, the level of health also shows improvement. Other factors such as investment and the number of workers show that the number fluctuates every year in North Sumatra Province. This study aims to determine the influence of the quality of human capital, investment, and the number of labor on economic performance in North Sumatra Provincial Regencies/Cities. This study uses a panel data regression analysis method with a Fixed Effect Model test. The results of the analysis test showed that the human capital quality variable had a positive and significant effect on economic performance, while the investment variable and the number of labor had no effect. However, partially, all independent variables in this study had a positive and significant effect on the dependent variable, namely economic performance.

Abstract

In general, Indonesia's economic growth is dominated by Java at 57.05%. The large contribution from the island of Java proves that equitable development is progressing well. However, poverty still plagues the island of Java, especially the Special Region of Yogyakarta as the province with the highest poverty rate on the island of Java. This research aims to determine the effect of economic growth, education and unemployment rates on poverty in the Yogyakarta Special Region Province for the 2019-2023 period with data obtained from BPS and the method used is panel data regression. The research results show that economic growth, education and unemployment rates have a significant negative effect on poverty in the Special Region of Yogyakarta.

Abstract

Indonesia as a developing country, continues to strive to increase economic growth in order to realize the welfare of society. However, this economic growth is not free from negative impacts, such as the exploitation of natural resources and increasing environmental degradation. One of the significant impacts of economic and industrial activities is climate change, which is a serious challenge in achieving sustainable development. This study aims to analyze the relationship between economic and industrial activities and the increase in carbon emissions in Indonesia during the period 1991-2022. The data used in this study comes from the World Bank, Our World In Data, and BPS, with the analysis method applied is time series regression using the VECM model. The results of this study indicate that economic growth has a significant negative effect, while investment, energy consumption and exports have a significant positive effect on CO2 emissions in Indonesia from 1991 to 2022.

The results of the study show that the mean years of schooling actually has a significant positive effect on the proportion of informal work. Then, unemployment and poverty have a significant positive effect on the proportion of informal employment

Abstract

Tourism is considered to have significant potential to drive Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) and is a key focus in Indonesia's economic development strategy. In 2021, Indonesia's tourism ranking rose significantly from 44th to 32nd place in the Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI), surpassing Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam. However, according to the TTDI, Indonesia still faces weaknesses in tourism service infrastructure, socioeconomic resilience, and ICT readiness, which have hindered the even development of tourism and caused it to remain concentrated in Bali as the main contributor. This study aims to examine the impact of tourist expenditures, tourism productivity, the ICT index, and internet users on the GRDP of priority tourism destination provinces from 2018 to 2022. The study incorporates a COVID-19 dummy variable. A quantitative approach is employed, utilizing secondary data in panel data format. The cross-sectional sample includes 10 provinces, while the time-series sample is annual, spanning the period from 2018 to 2022. The findings reveal that tourist expenditures do not have a significant effect, while tourism productivity, the ICT index, and internet users have a positive and significant effect on GRDP in the priority tourism destination provinces during 2018–2022.

Abstract

Unequal economic development is reflected in economic growth between regions, which gives rise to gaps in the quality of human resources. This study aims to determine the influence of Physical Special Allocation Funds and Regional Expenditures in the Education Sector on increasing Economic Growth and the Quality of Human Resources, focusing on the education sector as one of the main pillars of development. The methodology used in this research is panel data regression analysis by combining cross-section data from 38 districts/cities with time-series data for three years, namely from 2020 to 2022. The findings of this research show that special physical allocation funds have a positive and significant effect on economic growth and the quality of human resources. In contrast, regional spending in the education sector has a considerable influence, with a negative correlation between financial development and the quality of human resources. The implications of this research provide policymakers insight regarding optimizing public funds' use to support equality. Abstract

Poverty is still a widespread problem in developing countries, including Indonesia, which can occur especially in urban areas. To overcome poverty, it is necessary to understand the contributing factors and economic indicators that influence it, measured by various indicators. This study examines the impact of Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), unemployment rate, and population on poverty rates in nine cities in East Java from 2017 to 2023. This study analyses how GRDP, unemployment rate, and population contribute to poverty rates in these areas over a specified period. This study uses secondary data from the East Java Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), focusing on a sample of nine cities in the region. Using panel data analysis, the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method and the classical assumption test. The study results reveal a significant relationship between GRDP and, unemployment rates on poverty rates, indicating that economic growth and employment status are closely related to poverty. In contrast, population size does not show a significant effect on poverty.

Abstract

[RETRACTED] Reducing regional development disparities is one of the key focuses of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The establishment of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) is one of the Indonesian government's efforts to enhance the equitable welfare of its society. One such SEZ is Mandalika in Central Lombok, which is currently being developed into a major investment magnet and tourism destination in Indonesia. However, a paradoxical phenomenon has emerged during this development process: the rise of child labor in Mandalika. Therefore, this study aims to uncover and analyze the phenomenon of child labor in Mandalika as a Special Economic Zone in Central Lombok, using the household perspective of child laborers and employing the augmented qualitative phenomenology method. The results indicate that poverty and the low educational levels of households with child laborers are the main factors driving children into the workforce. Furthermore, despite the low educational levels of the parents, they are determined to support their children’s education. In terms of health, households of child laborers in Mandalika exhibit low health literacy, as evidenced by all study participants lacking BPJS (Indonesia's health insurance) and being unable to provide nutritious food for their children. This study contributes as a stepping stone for both regional and national governments to focus on non-physical development in Mandalika, particularly improving education and human resources. Building physical infrastructure in Mandalika without accompanying human resource development would hinder the optimal impact of such development on the community. This study is also valuable for policymakers in planning comprehensive and participatory child labor alleviation strategies. The output of this research is expected to generate a strategic policy design for the local government of Central Lombok.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of economic growth, minimum wage, and education on unemployment in Indonesia during the 2014-2023 period. The study is motivated by the high unemployment rate in Indonesia during the Jokowi administration compared to the SBY administration. The data used is secondary data from the Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS), covering 34 provinces in Indonesia. The analysis method employed is multiple linear regression with panel data. The results show that economic growth and minimum wage have a significant negative effect on the unemployment rate, while education does not have a significant effect on unemployment. Simultaneously, economic growth, minimum wage, and education significantly influence the reduction of unemployment. These findings suggest the importance of improvements in the economic sector, the implementation of minimum wage policies, and the quality of education in reducing unemployment in Indonesia. The implications of this study can assist the government and other stakeholders in formulating effective policies to alleviate unemployment in the region.
