Abstract

Economic growth is parameter for the success of economic development in a region. East Java Province in period 2017 – 2021 has a stable and increasing rate of economic growth, but inversely proportional to the relatively low quality of human development. The Human Development Index which is education, health, labor force and minimum wage levels reflects a measure the quality of human capital. This study aims to determine the effect of human capital and the provincial minimum wage on economic growth in East Java Province. This research method uses panel data regression analysis with a fixed effect model. The data used is from 29 regencies and 9 cities in East Java province from period 2017 – 2021. The results show that the independent variables of education level, health and labor force have a positive and significant effect on economic growth, while the district minimum wage variable has negative and significant impact on economic growth in East Java Province in 2017 – 2021.

Abstract

This study aims to determine what factors influence underemployment in East Java Province. This study uses several variables such as age, education level, and training participation. The methods used are Linear Probability Model (LPM), Logit, and Probit. The focus of this research is how to reduce the probability of the workforce being trapped into underemployment. The results of this study indicate that the age factor has a positive and significant effect on underemployment where as age increases the probability of becoming underemployed also increases. Furthermore, the education factor shows negative results, the higher the level of education, the lower the probability of underemployment. Workers with an elementary school education level are most prone to being trapped into underemployment. Meanwhile, workers with university graduates have the lowest chance of becoming underemployed. The training participation factor shows that workers who attend training have a lower probability of becoming underemployed.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of education, income, gender, marital status, origin, and family dependents on the decision of impoverished individuals to engage in begging or waste picking in Malang City. As the second most populous city in East Java, Malang City faces a significant poverty issue, resulting in social problems such as the proliferation of beggars and waste pickers. These individuals fall under the category of Social Welfare Problematic Individuals (PMKS) and coexist with social welfare programs implemented by the Malang City Social Service. A quantitative research approach was employed, utilizing binary logistic regression analysis. The study sample consisted of 72 respondents. The results of the logistic regression analysis revealed that income, gender, and marital status significantly influence the decisions of individuals, while the remaining variables do not show significant influence. The findings of this study shed light on the factors that affect impoverished individuals' choices to engage in begging or waste picking and provide insights for interventions and policy development to address poverty-related issues in Malang City.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to analyze the effects of regional expenditures, domestic investments, and foreign investment on the economic growth of all provinces in Java during the 2006—2021 period. Using panel data of six provinces across the sixteen-year period analyzed through panel data regression, this study finds that regional expenditures, domestic investment, and foreign direct investment positively and significantly affect the economic growth of all provinces in Java during the 2006—2021 period, both partially and simultaneously. Regional spending and domestic investment have a direct effect in the year concerned on economic growth, while foreign investment has an effect in a two-year lag. This happens because the level of ease of doing business and investing in Indonesia is still low, so that local governments together with the central government must coordinate more to make regulations for ease of investment, especially in areas on the Java.

Abstract

The high number of poor people in Malang City is of course the government's obligation to provide assistance to help meet the basic needs of households in Malang City. Government assistance such as PKH and BPNT have also become assistance owned by the people of Malang City which are obtained in cash and non-cash. According to BPS, the community poverty level is measured based on the food and non-food poverty lines. However, there are still many people who are financially capable but still receive social assistance. Malang City itself has a poverty line of IDR 570,238 per capita per month per 2021. The selection of assistance provided is based on fulfilling government criteria. As the criteria to be examined are the effect of poverty, employment, place of residence and number of family members on PKH and BPNT receipts. This research was conducted with a quantitative descriptive method using binary logistic regression data analysis method. With the results of the study proving that only the variable number of family members has a significant effect on PKH acceptance. Meanwhile, none of the variables affected BPNT revenue. This can be taken into consideration in the process of providing assistance so that it is right on target.

This study aims to determine the significance of the influence of Spotify music streaming service, live performances, and session work on the income of independent musicians in Malang. This quantitative research  utilizing primary data obtained from questionnaires, and analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis techniques. The results of the T-test with a significance level of <0.05 for X1 are 0.78; X2 is 0; X3 is 0.006. The result of the F-test is 23.01, and the result of the R2 test is 0.56. The findings of this study conclude that royalty from Spotify music streaming service does not have an impact on the income of independent musicians in Malang, while live performances and session work do have an influence on the income of independent musicians in Malang.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the issue of high poverty rates in the Province of Gorontalo, as well as the low value added in the agricultural sector, reflected by the sluggish growth of the agricultural sector and the prevalence of poverty among the population employed in this sector. The aim of this study is to investigate how the growth of the agricultural sector and other control variables influence poverty reduction in the Province of Gorontalo. The research employs panel data analysis using data encompassing all districts/cities in the Province of Gorontalo over a span of 12 years. Poverty plays the role of the dependent variable, while the growth of the agricultural sector serves as the independent variable along with other control variables, namely agricultural basis/non-basis region dummies, Human Development Index, Economic Realization, and Open Unemployment Rate. The results indicate that the dummy variables for agricultural basis and non-basis regions, Human Development Index, and Economic Realization have a significant negative impact on poverty. However, the variable of agricultural sector growth has an insignificant effect, and the open unemployment rate also has an insignificant influence on poverty.
