Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of developing student worksheets (LKPD in Indonesia term) in order to make students active in learning. LKPD aims to facilitate educators in carrying out learning. This study uses research and development (R&D) method, according to the ADDIE model development procedure (analyze, design, development, implementation, and evaluation). Data collection techniques in this study were using interview sheets, and questionnaires to test products by validators (educational technology experts, material experts and linguists), teacher response tests, and student response tests. The study produces LKPD based on MIKiR approach on the topic of heat and its transfer, MIKiR is an a learning approach consists of mengalamai (experiencing), interaksi (interaction), komunikasi (communication), and refleksi (reflection) activities which are part of active learning activities. The results of the validation data analysis show that the LKPD meets the very valid criteria. Teachers and students also gave a high score to the feasibility of the LKPD based on MIKiR approach. Therefore, MIKiR-based LKPD on heat and transfer materials are very suitable to be used as one of the active teaching materials in supporting fifth grade students’ learning science.

Abstract

Fractions have been applied in daily life and become a prerequisite in learning mathematics, therefore students have to mastered fractions. Many studies state that learning fractions classified as a difficult topic including addition of fraction. The aim of this study was to determine fifth grade’ difficulties in solving fraction addition problems, and to determine factors that cause their experiencing difficulties in learning addition of fractions. The method of this study was a mixed method. The participants were 29 fifth grade students from a public elementary school in Pekanbaru, Riau province, Indonesia. The results showed that many students got difficulties in solving the tasks. The study also showed that the difficulties were experienced by studens in completing addition of fractions including mastering the concept of addition of fractions with 71.43% error. The students were not mastering the prerequisite knowledge of multiplication with 47.29% error and was not able to complete problem solving tasks of adding fractions with 42.53% error. The factors that cause students experiences the difficulties in completing adding fractions are the lack of students’ motivation, students were low on interest of learning mathematics since they assume that mathematics is a difficult subject.

Abstract

This study aims to assist students in understanding learning materials in science subjects by developing a pocketbook. A pocketbook is a small book that can be stored in a pocket and easy to carry everywhere. This practicality can help students to gain knowledge anywhere and anytime by using a pocketbook. So, the need for innovation and habituation, the researchers develop practical teaching materials that students can learn anywhere and adapting to the demands of the times, namely pocketbook based on high order thinking skills (HOTS) of heat and transfer materials for fifth graders of elementary school. It is expected that students will be able to develop creative thinking skills, high-level thinking and be able to solve problems in their daily lives by using students' thinking skills. The display of colorful pocketbooks, lots of pictures, unique layouts, and clear language makes students have new learning experiences without losing the essence/meaning of the material. The development model used is ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation). Data collection techniques, using product validation questionnaires by educational technology, material experts, and linguist experts, teacher response questionnaires and student response questionnaires. The results obtained from the development of HOTS-based pocketbook teaching materials are very valid. Besides, the teacher and students have positive response toward the developed pocketbook. This research is expected to help teachers in developing students' high-level and creative thinking skills, as well as being a reference in developing HOTS-based pocketbooks in the future.

Abstract

Mathematical literacy is a key point of the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) study, and indeed it becomes a concern for some studies in many countries. This study aims at investigating mathematics literacy presented in mathematics comics, and it focuses on mathematical contexts and contents presented in thirteen pre-service teacher-designed mathematics comics. The findings show that personal is the most favourable contents, while quantity and change and relationships are mostly contexts chosen by the pre-service teachers in their designed mathematics comics. The implication of this study is that teacher-designed mathematics comics still emphasis on a daily life context that closed to students’ life.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an animation video of flat shapes based on Malay culture in elementary schools that meet valid and practical criteria. This method used is research and development with the Plomp model. The development phase is carried out in 3 phases: preliminary research phase, prototyping phase, and assessment phase. Animated video development products are validated by content, media, and linguistic experts. While the practicality of the product made is seen from the responses of teachers and students, and the data are obtained by observation, interviews, and questionnaires. Data processing is carried out by means of quantitative and qualitative analysis. The animated video developed by the researchers meets the valid and practical criteria and can be used in learning flat shapes in elementary schools.
