Abstract

Postoperative pain is a common physiological response following surgical procedures, and its suboptimal management can have physiological and psychological effects, including sleep disturbances, decreased functional capacity, increased anxiety, and deterioration in quality of life. This scoping review aims to describe the empirical evidence regarding the effectiveness of music therapy in reducing the intensity of postoperative pain in surgical patients. A systematic search was conducted through four major databases (ScienceDirect, PubMed, Neliti, and Google Scholar) using Boolean operators and keywords such as ‘postoperative pain,’ ‘music therapy,’ and ‘pain scale.’ Inclusion criteria included articles published in the last decade, in English or Indonesian, and available in full text format. In accordance with PRISMA-ScR guidelines, this review analysed 10 articles. The synthesis of results showed that music therapy consistently reduced pain intensity, anxiety, and analgesic requirements through mechanisms such as increased endorphin secretion, decreased stress hormone levels, and activation of the gate control theory. Typically administered for 15–30 minutes, music therapy is a safe, cost-effective, and patient-acceptable non-pharmacological modality. This intervention is recommended as an adjunct component in perioperative pain management in nursing practice, although further standardised research is needed to improve consistency.

Abstract

Derivatives of substituted oxazol-5-one (1–3) and substituted oxazolo-isoxazole (4–6) were successfully synthesized through a multi-step reaction process. Initially, glycine was reacted with acetic anhydride to produce acetyl glycine as a key intermediate. This intermediate subsequently underwent a condensation reaction with various substituted benzaldehydes, leading to the formation of oxazol-5-one derivatives (1–3). In the final synthetic step, these oxazol-5-one derivatives were reacted with hydroxylamine hydrochloride to yield the corresponding oxazolo-isoxazole compounds (4–6). The chemical structures of all synthesized compounds were characterized and confirmed using Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (¹H NMR) spectroscopy. Furthermore, molecular docking studies were carried out to evaluate the potential biological interactions of the prepared compounds. Docking simulations were performed using PyRx software, while visualization and interaction analysis were conducted employing PyMOL and Discovery Studio. The combined experimental and computational approaches provide valuable insights into the structural properties and potential biological relevance of the synthesized compounds.

Abstract

Introduction: Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) is an important indicator in improving health status, particularly among university students as a productive age group. Health knowledge plays a role as a predisposing factor in the formation of healthy behavior. Individuals with a good level of health knowledge tend to have higher awareness and motivation to implement PHBS. Conversely, a lack of knowledge may lead to behaviors that pose health risks. Objective: This study aimed to determine the relationship between the level of health knowledge and clean and healthy living behavior (PHBS) among students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang. Methods: This study employed a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 55 students, including students from health-related and non-health-related faculties. Samples were selected using an accidental sampling technique, namely respondents who were encountered and willing to complete the questionnaire at the time of data collection. The research instruments were a health knowledge questionnaire and a PHBS questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate analysis with the Spearman test. Results: The results showed that the majority of respondents had good health knowledge (89.1%) and good PHBS (90.9%). The Spearman test results showed a p-value of 0.001 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant relationship between the level of health knowledge and PHBS. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the better the level of students’ health knowledge, the better the implementation of clean and healthy living behavior.

Abstract

Exposure to cigarette smoke is one of the environmental risk factors that is still widely found and has a significant impact on the health of the respiratory system, especially the upper respiratory tract. The irritants and toxic substances in cigarette smoke can trigger mucosal inflammation, interfere with the defenses of the airways, and increase susceptibility to various upper airway disorders. This study aims to systematically analyze the relationship between cigarette smoke exposure and upper airway disorders based on available scientific evidence. The method used is Systematic Literature Review (SLR) with reference to the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Literature searches were conducted through PubMed, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, and Garuda databases. Articles were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, resulting in 26 articles that were analyzed narrative-synthesis. The results showed that most studies reported a meaningful association between exposure to cigarette smoke, both in active and passive smokers, and an increased risk of upper respiratory tract disorders such as rhinitis, sinusitis, recurrent upper respiratory tract infections, pharyngitis, and laryngitis. Higher risks are found in passive smokers, especially children, as well as in individuals with long-term, high-intensity exposure. The conclusion of this study confirms that exposure to cigarette smoke is an important and preventable risk factor for upper respiratory tract disorders. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the policy of non-smoking areas, public education, as well as promotive and preventive efforts in health services to reduce the impact of exposure to cigarette smoke on the health of the upper respiratory tract.

Abstract

Postoperative pain is a common clinical condition experienced by patients after surgical procedures and may hinder the recovery process if not properly managed. In addition to pharmacological therapy, safe and effective non-pharmacological interventions are needed, one of which is early mobilization. This study aimed to analyze the effect of early mobilization on pain reduction in postoperative surgical patients. A scoping review method was conducted based on the Arksey and O’Malley framework. Literature searches were performed using ScienceDirect, PubMed, and Google Scholar databases with a PICO strategy, including articles published within the last five years. From a total of 167,948 identified articles, 10 studies met the inclusion criteria and were included in the analysis. The results showed that early mobilization performed gradually and according to patients’ clinical conditions had a significant effect on reducing postoperative pain intensity. In addition, early mobilization was associated with improved comfort, enhanced functional recovery, and faster postoperative rehabilitation without increasing the risk of complications. Although variations were found in the timing and type of mobilization across studies, overall evidence supports that early mobilization is safe and effective. In conclusion, early mobilization can be recommended as an evidence-based nursing intervention for postoperative pain management.

Abstract

One of the most common occupational health risk factors found in industrial areas is noise, and long-term exposure ≥85 dB(A) for more than 8 hours has the potential to cause progressive and permanent Noise-Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL). The risk of NIHL increases if workers do not use Ear Protection Equipment (APT) optimally and have certain individual factors such as age, working period, and length of exposure. This study aims to determine the relationship between the use of APT and worker factors with hearing loss due to noise in PT HMK II Palembang City in 2025. This study uses an analytical quantitative design with a cross sectional approach. A sample of 55 respondents was selected through purposive sampling technique. Data was collected using a questionnaire and analyzed by chi-square test. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between the use of APT (p=0.000) and there was no significant relationship between, the age of workers (p=0.838), working time (p=0.290), and length of work (p=0.172) and noise-induced hearing loss. The use of APT has been shown to be associated with a reduced risk of noise-induced hearing loss, although age, length of employment, and length of work did not show a significant relationship.

Abstract

Cold compresses or cryotherapy are one of the non-pharmacological therapies often used in nursing practice to help reduce pain, especially in patients with fractures. Fractures are often accompanied by acute pain that can inhibit mobilization, prolong recovery time, and reduce patient comfort. Therefore, a safe, effective, and easy-to-use pain management method is needed. This article was compiled with the aim of identifying and mapping scientific evidence regarding the effectiveness of cold compresses in reducing pain intensity in fracture patients. This study used the Arksey and O'Malley model in conducting the analysis, with articles searched through PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar for the 2021–2025 publication period. The article selection process followed the PRISMA flow. A review of ten articles showed that most studies used quantitative designs, both experimental and quasi-experimental. The results of the analysis of 11 articles consisted of 8 quantitative articles with experimental and quasi-experimental designs, while 2 articles were case studies. These articles generally discuss the effectiveness of cold compresses in reducing pain intensity in fracture patients using various measurement instruments, such as NRS, VAS, Wong-Baker Faces Scale, and Bourbanis Pain Scale. In addition to reducing pain, several studies also reported that cold compresses can reduce edema, increase mobility, and improve patient comfort. However, variations in the duration, frequency, and method of cold compress application were still found, so there is a need to develop a more standardized protocol in nursing practice.

Abstract

Inflammation is a biological response that occurs as a defense mechanism of the body against tissue damage, infection, or exposure to harmful stimuli. Excessive or prolonged inflammation can lead to various chronic diseases and negatively affect overall health. Natural compounds derived from medicinal plants have gained attention as alternative anti-inflammatory agents due to their relatively lower side effects compared to synthetic drugs. Jatropha curcas is a plant traditionally used in herbal medicine and is known to contain various bioactive compounds. This study aims to examine the effect of Jatropha curcas leaf extract on inflammatory responses. The research method used was an experimental laboratory approach with extract preparation through maceration techniques. The anti-inflammatory effect was evaluated based on changes in inflammatory indicators observed during the treatment process. The results showed that Jatropha curcas leaf extract demonstrated potential anti-inflammatory activity, which was indicated by a reduction in inflammatory signs. The presence of secondary metabolites such as flavonoids, tannins, and saponins is suspected to contribute to this effect. These findings suggest that Jatropha curcas leaf extract has promising potential as a natural anti-inflammatory agent. Further research is recommended to explore dosage optimization and toxicity levels for safe therapeutic use.
