Abstract

The Potential of Wolffia globosa and Lemna perpusilla (Lemnaceae) as Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) Feed. Efforts to find alternative feeds, particularly those of cheap and readily available natural feeds, are continuously being made to improve the efficiency of fish farming. This study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of using two types of aquatic plants from the Lemnaceae group, Wolffia globosa and Lemna perpusilla, as alternative feeds in the cultivation of Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). The fish was reared in nine aquaria measuring 60 × 40 × 40 cm, with a closed water recirculation system placed in a greenhouse. The aquatic plants were provided ad libitum while commercial pellets as control and comparison were given at 3% of the body weight, each with three replications. Observations on fish growth rate and feed efficiency were carried out every two weeks for eight weeks. The result showed that the growth rate of fish fed with Wolffia and Lemna reached 6.27 ± 0.14% per day and 6.46 ± 0.18% per day, while that fed with pellet was 7.17 ± 0.22% per day. Although these growth rates are significantly lower than that of fish fed with pellets, it is sufficient to show the potential of these aquatic plants as alternative feeds that can be used to reduce feed costs. This study also showed the better efficiency of fresh Lemna biomass as fish feed than Wolffia.

Abstract

The current supply of Spotted Barb (Barbodes binotatus) is still obtained from wild catches because the larval production process is still not mastered. One of the obstacles in the artificial hatchery is a large number of unfertilized eggs. This obstacle is probably due to the suboptimal parental ratios. The purpose of this study was to obtain the best male : female ratio that produced the highest reproductive rate of Spotted Barb (Barbodes binotatus). The study was conducted for 14 days at UPT PBAT Umbulan, Pasuruan, East Java. The method used was an experimental method with four treatments and three replications, namely P1 (2 males : 1 female), P2 (3 males : 1 female), P3 (4 males : 1 female), and P4 (5 males : 1 female). The adult fish selected were gonadally mature (at stage 4 gonadal maturity), weighing 5–10 g. These adults were then kept in an aquarium measuring 60 × 30 × 30 cm3 filled with water to a depth of 25 cm until ready to spawn. The results showed that different male ratios had a significant effect (P < 0.05) on the degrees of fertilization and hatching. However, they had no significant impact (P > 0.05) on the survival rate (SR) and fecundity. The best treatment in this study was P4 which resulted in the degree of fertilization of 95.8%, the degree of hatching of 94.1%, and the survival rate of 98.0%. The ratio of 5 males : 1 female was the optimal ratio in the spawning of Spotted Barb to produce the highest reproductive performance.

Abstract

The Senggarang River is a tributary located in Senggarang, Bintan Island, Riau Islands Province. The river's water quality needs to be monitored considering that it is one of the water resources used by the Senggarang community in Tanjung Pinang City and its surroundings. This study aims to determine the water quality of the Senggarang River based on the structure of the epilithic periphyton community. The sampling location was determined based on the purposive sampling method. Samples were taken from six stations along the Senggarang River, namely Station 1 in the first upstream, Station 2 adjacent to residential areas, Station 3 in the second upstream, Station 4 at the confluence of the two streams, Station 5 in open land, and Station 6 downstream near the estuary. Epilithic periphyton obtained from this study consisted of 20 genera from 3 divisions, namely Bacillariophyta, Chlorophyta, and Charophyta. The highest periphyton density was 790 individuals/cm2 found at Station 1 (upstream), while the lowest was 638 individuals/cm2 in the part of the river that flows in open land (Station 5). Based on the periphyton community, the results of the ecological index assessment indicated low diversity, high uniformity, and no dominant individual. The saprobic index value indicated that the pollution of organic and inorganic materials in the Senggarang River is classified as very low or oligosaprobic.

Abstract

The Kalijodo Green Open Space (GOS) which has a vegetated land area of 48%, does not meet the ideal criteria for a GOS, which should have a minimum vegetated land area of 80%. With this area, the water absorption capacity of the Kalijodo GOS is only 45% from what it should be 75%. The ability to absorb water can impact the potential income generated if the infiltration water in the Kalijodo GOS is managed properly. This study aims to determine the potential income generated if the management of infiltration water in the Kalijodo GOS is carried out by comparing the management of infiltration water in current conditions to the ideal conditions using comparative descriptive analysis methods. The results showed that the community served by the distribution of clean water from the infiltration water management process at the Kalijodo GOS in its current condition was 348 people (87 households). This number is less than the number of people served by the distribution of clean water from infiltration water management under ideal conditions, which is 580 people (145 households). The income generated from the management of infiltration water in the Kalijodo GOS in its current condition compared to the management of infiltration water in the ideal conditions shows a loss or shortfall of Rp45,518,400. Thus, the condition of the Kalijodo green space needs to be improved according to the ideal area of vegetated land to increase the ability to absorb water so that the number of people who get access to clean water and the income from the infiltration water management increase
