Abstract

This study aims to analyze the religious values embodied in the peusijuek tradition among the Acehnese people. It employs a library research approach utilizing content analysis. Data were gathered from various scholarly articles, books, and academic sources relevant to the peusijuek tradition, Acehnese culture, Islam, and local wisdom. The findings indicate that the peusijuek tradition encompasses various religious values, including prayer and supplication to Allah, gratitude to Allah, ethical and moral values, as well as values of social bonding (silaturahmi), solidarity, and brotherhood. These values are manifested through prayers, symbols, ritual actions, and social interactions during the ceremony. Peusijuek functions not merely as a customary tradition but also as a medium for actualizing and transmitting Islamic values within Acehnese society. Thus, peusijuek can be viewed as a form of religious local wisdom that harmonizes Islamic teachings with Acehnese culture, while simultaneously playing a role in preserving identity and religious values across generations.

Abstract

The acculturation of Islam and local culture constitutes an important aspect of the formation of Banjar cultural identity. One manifestation of this acculturation is reflected in pineapple (Kanas) ornaments found in traditional Banjar architecture, which function not only as aesthetic elements but also convey symbolic meanings associated with religious values and the philosophy of life of Urang Banjar. This study aims to analyze the symbolic meaning of pineapple ornaments as a representation of the acculturation of Islam and local culture and its relationship with the philosophy of life of Urang Banjar. This study employs a qualitative approach involving a literature review and descriptive observation of pineapple ornaments in the Kuin Utara area of Banjarmasin. The data gathered from literature and observations are analyzed interpretatively to reveal the symbolic meaning of the pineapple ornaments and their connection to Islamic values, local culture, and the philosophy of life of the Banjar people. The analysis indicates that pineapple ornaments can be interpreted as symbols of spiritual purification, steadfastness, sincerity, and beneficial living that correspond with Islamic values. Within the Banjar cultural context, this symbolism can also be associated with the philosophy of Baiman, Bauntung, Batuah, representing faith, a life that brings goodness and benefit, and a meaningful life for oneself and the social environment. Thus, pineapple ornaments can be understood as a visual medium that brings together Islamic values, local identity, and the philosophy of life of Urang Banjar while contributing to the intergenerational transmission of cultural values.
