Abstract

Etymologically, the word takjil comes from the Arabic word ‘ajjala–yu‘ajjilu–ta‘jīlan, which means to hasten, referring to the recommendation to hasten breaking the fast at Maghrib time. However, within Indonesian cultural context, the term takjil has shifted in meaning to refer to food or drinks served for breaking the fast. The tradition of sharing takjil has developed into a form of social concern carried out by various groups, ranging from the general public and university students to educational institutions and social organizations. The method of implementing this community service activity was carried out at Mushola Miftahul Jannah Banjarmasin. The takjil distribution activity aimed to provide a real contribution in strengthening togetherness, social awareness, and community empowerment within the area surrounding the mushola. The activity, which was held on March 6, 2026, produced positive impacts in the form of gratitude from community members who felt helped by the takjil distribution, happiness among children, and closer relationships between university students and the local community.

Abstract

Abstract                     Effective maritime communication is a crucial element in ensuring shipping safety, yet traditional fishing communities often face fatal language barriers and limited safety literacy. This community service (PkM) program aims to mitigate language barriers (Indonesian-English) in on-board emergency procedures for the traditional fishing community in Saripul Street, Kurau Utara, Tanah Laut Regency, South Kalimantan. The implementation method utilized a participatory-interactive approach involving 30 target partners, including local fishermen, boat motorists, and skippers, through four operational stages: initial coordination, visual media design, interactive dialogue based on Focus Group Discussions (FGD), and clinical pronunciation drills. The concrete solution introduced was a Bilingual Safety Education Poster that adopts lexical simplification of the IMO's Standard Marine Communication Phrases (SMCP) for three critical scenarios (fire on board, leaking, man overboard), combined with distress call simulations (Mayday, Pan-Pan, Securite) using VHF radio communication. Post-mentoring evaluation results demonstrated a significant leap, with an 85% increase in fishermen's cognitive safety understanding and 75% psychomotor accuracy in pronouncing emergency calls. The program proved effective in diminishing communication anxiety, reducing cognitive overload, and accelerating coastal community legal compliance with national safety regulations (Government Regulation No. 27/2021 and Ministerial Regulation No. 33/2020). In conclusion, adaptive bilingual visual media intervention successfully bridges the gap between global maritime rules and the sociological reality of traditional fishermen to foster an inclusive maritime safety culture.

Abstract

Land constraints in urban areas often hinder people from engaging in agribusiness. However, shallot (Allium ascalonicum L.) cultivation offers the opportunity for an efficient and economically viable food security solution, even when done in front of the house. This paper aims to describe shallot cultivation techniques that are adaptable to limited land, using vertical cultivation methods, polybags, or pots. The method used is a practical approach that includes selecting superior seeds, preparing a nutrient-rich growing medium, and managing scheduled watering and fertilization. Observations indicate that with proper care, shallots can be harvested within 60 to 70 days, with quality comparable to conventional farming. The conclusion of this discussion confirms that utilizing home gardens for shallot cultivation not only serves to green the environment but also reduces household expenses and provides potential additional income for the family. The flexibility of this method makes it a highly viable independent food security strategy for communities with limited land.
