Abstract

MANSUR, M & KARTAWINATA, K. 2017. Phytosociology of a Lower Montane Forest on Mt. Batulanteh, Sumbawa, Indonesia. Reinwardtia 16 (2): 77-92. — While Indonesia’s forests are globally known for their high species diversity but many regions remain little known to investigate the tree community in a lower montane forest at Mt. Batulanteh in Sumbawa. We subjectively laid out plots of 1,800 m2 each, two in secondary forests and one in a disturbed primary forest. All stems over 5 cm diameters were measured and identified. In the plot of 0,54 hectare, we recorded 723 individuals, representing 78 species, 60 genera and 33 families. Estimated volume of boles was 183.2 m3/0.54 ha, biomass was 220.1 tons/0.54 ha, carbon stock was 110.0 tons/0.54 ha and CO2 sequestration was 403.1 ton/0.54 ha. The forest at Mt. Batulanteh is classified as Garcinia-Cryptocarya association consisting of Micromelum-Cinnamomum subassociation. Dipterocarpus-Calophyllum subassociation and Garcinia-Syzygium subassociation. Dominant species were Micromelum minutum (IV=27.24), Mallotus philippensis (IV=26.2), Cryptocarya ferrea (IV=24.71) and Cinnamomum burmanni (IV=23.81) in Plot 1, Dipterocarpus retusus (IV=77.4) and Calophyllum soulattri (IV=24.21) in Plot 2, and Garcinia celebica (IV=34.86) and Syzygium sp. 1 (IV=34.76) in Plot 3. Dipterocarpus retusus was unique of having restricted distribution. Fagaceae, typical family in montane forests, was absent. Shannon’s diversity index was low (H '= 1.61). It can be concluded that the plots do not constitute a representative of Mt. Batulanteh and the surrounding forests, but they were sufficient to provide an illustration of the forests locally. The diameter class distribution indicated that the forests were regenerating. They were developing secondary forest and regenerating disturbed primary forest; slow successions were in the process and could be enhancedby ecological restoration. Further botanical explorations in poorly known regions of Sumbawa should be intensified further.

Abstract

MAZUMDAR, J. 2017. Typification of Tectaria paradoxa (Polypodiaceae subfam. Tectarioideae). Reinwardtia 16(2): 93-95. — Aspidium paradoxum has not yet been lectotypified, because the original material is ambiguous. A specimen from the collections of A. Fée, the author of the species, was located in the herbarium of Montpellier (MPU), which is here designated as the lectotype for this species. It is now known as Tectaria paradoxa, a fern species widely distributed across tropical Asia.

Abstract

RUGAYAH & SUNARTI, S. 2017. The genus Lasianthus (Rubiaceae) in Wawonii Island, Sountheast Sulawesi, Indonesia. Reinwardtia 16 (2): 97–101. — Recent botanical excursions carried out at Wawonii island, Southeast Sula-wesi yielded two Lasianthus novelties distinct from other Lasianthus species enumerated for Sulawesi. These two new species are described here as Lasianthus wawoniiensis Rugayah & Sunarti and L. macrobracteatus Rugayah & Sunarti. Descriptions and illustrations of the two new species are provided, including an identification key to all Lasianthus species occurring in the area.

Calyptrochilus.

VELDKAMP, J. F. 2018. A revision of Isachne in Malesia 2: Sect. Albentes (Gramineae, Isachneae). Reinwardtia 17 (1): 1–33. — There are 23 species of Isachne in Malesia of which the 16 belonging to sect. Albentes are revised here. Isachne fera (N. Sumatra) and I. glandulosa (W. Sumatra) are new species, and so is I. bsipiana from Vanuatu. Isachne clementis and I. vulcanica are distinct species. Isachne albomarginata and I. beneckei are reduced to I. clarkei, I. obtecta to I. stricta, I. repens to I. commelinifolia (which is reinstated here), I. saxicola to I. clementis. Isachne kunthiana restricted to Sri Lanka and S. India has been much misapplied to specimens of I.commelinifolia and I. schmidtii. Fifteen lectotypes are designated.

Abstract

DAMAYANTO, I P. G. P. 2018. Dinochloa malayana S.Dransf. (Poaceae: Bambusoideae), a new record for Indonesia. Reinwardtia 17(1): 35-37. - Dinochloa malayana was previously only known from Peninsular Malaysia and Southern Thailand. However, recently, this bamboo was also found at Karimun Anak Island and Batam Island,Indonesia. A description, notes and photographs of this species are presented. An identification key to Sumatran Dinochloa is also provided.

Vegetation analysis and population structure of plants at Mount Endut forested area, Gunung Halimun Salak National Park, Banten, Java,Indonesia. Reinwardtia 17 (1): 39–53. — Study of vegetation structure and species composition at Mount Endut was carried out by using transect and plot methods. Data of trees, saplings and seedlings were enumerated from four transects measuring 10 m × 2,000 m in four directions of slopes i.e. North, South, East and West. In total there were 180 species of trees and saplings belonging to 105 genera and 51 families. Tree density and basal area indicate the variation and the differences in each of the sampling locations. Density of saplings and abundance of seedlings tend to be low in locations with high density and basal areas at tree level. Tree species having higher Importance Value were Castanopsis acuminatissima, Schima wallichii, C. argentea, Quercus gemelliflora, and Altingia excelsa. Castanopsis acuminatissima, Garcinia rostrata, S. wallichii, Symplocos cochinchinensis, and Prunus arborea were saplings which had highest density, while Ophiorrhiza marginata, Cyathea contaminans, Pinanga coronata,C. acuminatissima, and G. rostrata were the most abundant listed seedlings at the study site. At least 27 tree species (21.91%) were recorded as relatively rare (presence represented by only 1–2 individuals), thus requiring special attention in the management of the area.

Abstract

TURNER, I. M. 2018. A new combination in Pseuderanthemum (Acanthaceae). Reinwardtia 17(1): 55–57. — A new combination is provided in Pseuderanthemum for Eranthemum diantherum Roxb., an Acanthaceae species from the Moluccas. Pseuderanthemum depauperatum Merr. is a synonym of Pseuderanthemum diantherum. Lectotypes for Eranthemum diantherum and Pseuderanthemum depauperatum are designated.

RAHAYU, Y., CHIKMAWATI, T. & WIDJAJA, E. A. 2018. Nomenclatural study of Tetrastigma leucostaphylum and Tetrastigma rafflesiae (Vitaceae): two common hosts of Rafflesia in Sumatra. Reinwardtia 17(1): 59–66. – A study of Tetrastigma (Miq.) Planch. (Vitaceae) conducted in Sumatra has revealed a number of species records. There are two species were misinterpreted. Two species names are here discussed: T. leucostaphylum (Dennst.) Alston ex Mabb. and T. rafflesiae (Miq.) Planch., which formerly united with T. lanceolarium.
