Abstract

People with mental disorders (PWMD) often face limitations in social participation, productive activities, and economic independence, which may hinder their rehabilitation process within the community. This community service program aimed to support mental health rehabilitation and the sustainability of community mental health posts through Shibori T-shirt training for PWMD and community mental health cadres in Sembung Village, Wedi District, Central Java. The activity was conducted on 29 November and involved 30 participants, consisting of PWMD and mental health cadres. A participatory and educational approach was applied, integrating creative skill training with basic occupational therapy principles through hands-on practice of Shibori techniques, including fabric folding, tying, dyeing, and finishing processes. The results showed that most PWMD participants were able to follow the training stages and successfully produce at least one Shibori T-shirt with diverse patterns and colors. In addition to technical skill acquisition, the activity contributed to positive psychosocial outcomes, such as increased self-confidence, active participation, and improved social interaction between PWMD and mental health cadres. Cadres also perceived the training as a feasible and meaningful alternative activity to support community-based mental health programs. As a follow-up plan, the Shibori T-shirt production will be continued as official uniforms for the Community Mental Health Post to strengthen participants’ sense of belonging, program sustainability, and social inclusion. In conclusion, Shibori T-shirt training can serve as an effective creative empowerment strategy to support community-based mental health rehabilitation and enhance the sustainability of mental health services at the village level.

Abstract

Introduction: Non-communicable diseases (NCDs), particularly hypertension and diabetes mellitus, remain prevalent in Batu Besar Village, Batam City, and are influenced by limited health literacy and restricted access to healthcare services. This community service program aimed to improve community health literacy through health education and on-site health screening. Methods: A community-based intervention was conducted involving 30 adults and older adults aged 45–70 years with a history of or risk factors for hypertension and diabetes mellitus. Activities included health education, demonstrations of blood pressure and blood glucose self-monitoring, health screening, and individual counseling. Knowledge improvement was assessed using pre-test and post-test questionnaires. Results: Health screening showed that 60.0% of participants had stage 1 or stage 2 hypertension, 40.0% had prediabetes or diabetes mellitus, and 63.4% were overweight or obese. Post-test results indicated a significant increase in knowledge across all domains (p < 0.001), particularly in self-monitoring and dietary management. Conclusion Integrated education and community-based health screening effectively enhanced health literacy and supported early detection of NCDs in the community.

Abstract

Introduction: Stunting is a condition of growth failure in children under five resulting from chronic malnutrition and recurrent infections, particularly during the first 1,000 days of life. Low parental literacy regarding child growth and developmental indicators remains a major barrier to early stunting prevention efforts. Methods: This community service activity was conducted through an interactive dialogue between a child nursing expert and a radio broadcaster on the Mozaik Indonesia program aired by LPP RRI Cirebon. The educational approach included expert-led material presentations followed by live question-and-answer sessions with the audience. Results: The educational content covered stunting risk factors, physical characteristics of stunted children, and preventive strategies through balanced nutritional intake. The audience demonstrated high levels of engagement by actively participating via radio broadcasts and the comment section of RRI Cirebon’s YouTube channel, where various questions related to child growth and development were raised and addressed in real time. Conclusion: Radio broadcasting integrated with digital platforms such as YouTube has proven to be an effective and interactive medium for disseminating health information and reaching a broader community. Abstract

Background: Fainting (syncope) is a common emergency in school settings, particularly during ceremonies and physical activities. Members of the Youth Red Cross (Palang Merah Remaja/PMR) are expected to possess adequate first aid skills to respond promptly and appropriately to fainting incidents in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).Methods: This community service activity consisted of health education sessions and hands-on first aid practice using instructional media. The program was conducted at the Hall of SMK Ahmad Yani Gurah from October 20 to November 20, 2025. A total of 39 PMR students and 6 university students participated. Participants’ first aid skills were evaluated using pre-test and post-test observation sheets. Results: Pre-test results showed that nearly half of the participants (17 students; 43.6%) achieved a score of 60, indicating limited initial competence. Post-test results demonstrated a substantial improvement, with most participants (30 students; 76.9%) achieving scores above 88, reflecting enhanced first aid skills in managing fainting cases. Conclusion: First aid training for fainting management significantly improved the competence of PMR members. Continuous and structured training programs, both within and outside school settings, are recommended to ensure adherence to SOPs and to promote active participant engagement.
