Abstract

The BVAS is a technological tool used to identify and accredit voters' fingerprints and facial recognition prior to voting, whereas the IReV is an online portal where polling unit level results are uploaded, transmitted, and published for the public. The public can set up individual accounts at the online portal's front end, giving them access to all uploaded results stored as PDF files. The public will be more confident in the process and transparency will increase if results are made available down to the polling unit level. Despite the promises of new technologies, dishonest INEC officials used a single button click to steal, rig, and annul voter decisions in elections. In light of this, this study evaluated the performance of BVAS and other new electoral technologies and innovations in the Nigerian general elections of 2023. Qualitative research design and content analysis was used in this study. The study comes to the conclusion that while INEC deployed BVAS and other new electoral technologies and innovations to improve electoral integrity and inspire public confidence in the electoral process, those efforts were not flawless and some INEC officials compromised the electoral process. Undoubtedly, the use of BVAS and other electoral technologies could prevent election rigging and boost public confidence in election results, but some failures in the use of BVAS and IReV have been noted. Therefore, this study recommends among others that the electoral umpire in future general elections should be impartial and nonpartisan. This will ensure that all candidates have an equal chance to win and that Nigerian elections will be held without incident.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic is disrupting traditional education and forcing educators to turn to distance and online learning. This research examines the effectiveness of Wordwall, an interactive platform, in increasing student engagement in Social Studies Education courses at the University of West Sulawesi. The research method used is qualitative with observation and interview techniques. Data were collected from eight students of the Elementary School Teacher Education study program who were selected based on their engagement in class, previous experience with online learning, and willingness to participate. The results showed that the use of Wordwall significantly increased students' engagement and motivation. Interactive features such as Quiz, Match Up, and Random Wheel help to create more interesting and varied learning activities. It is recommended that educators use Wordwall features more frequently, conduct training to improve skills in using this platform, and utilize the analysis feature to provide more specific and timely feedback. The integration of Wordwall in learning can create a more dynamic and engaging learning experience, thus helping students achieve better learning outcomes. This research provides important insights into how interactive technologies can be effectively used in higher education to improve student participation and learning outcomes.

In a global context, digital transformation has emerged as a key catalyst in enhancing efficiency and transparency in public service, particularly through the use of state civil apparatus information systems. However, the implementation of such systems at the BKPSDMD of Makassar City faces significant challenges, especially related to integration, human resources, and technological infrastructure. This study aims to comprehensively analyze the implementation of the information system at the BKPSDMD of Makassar City, identify the obstacles encountered, and evaluate its impact on operational efficiency and service quality. A descriptive qualitative method was utilized, with data collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis. The findings indicate that a lack of skilled personnel and inadequate infrastructure are the main barriers, leading to suboptimal use of the information system. This study provides recommendations for improving policies and practices in public data management that can support the efficiency and transparency of local government. The conclusion of this research underscores the importance of investing in human resources and technological infrastructure to maximize the benefits of digital transformation in the public sector.
