Abstract

Parental divorce significantly impacts adolescents’ mental health, such as causing stress, depression, and reduced adaptive abilities. This study aims to analyze the role of Guidance and Counseling teachers in strengthening the resilience of students with divorced parents in Jember Regency, using the Stimulus-Organism-Response (S-O-R) theory. This research is a qualitative study with a phenomenological approach. Informants were selected using purposive sampling, consisting of seven BK teachers as primary informants and three students as additional informants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. The research findings indicate that most Guidance and Counseling teachers assess and identify the resilience of students from divorced families using unstructured and unsystematic methods, such as spontaneous interviews during counseling sessions and daily behavior observations. Education about resilience is also delivered informally, often through spontaneous advice during individual counseling. BK teachers actively help students address negative thought patterns and develop coping skills, primarily using an emotion-focused coping approach. Collaboration with parents, teachers, peers, and psychologists is carried out by most BK teachers, although one teacher refrains from collaboration due to a student's confidentiality request. Measurable and continuous evaluation instruments are not widely used; instead, teachers rely on informal approaches such as regular consultations, social observation, and cooperation with homeroom teachers and close peers.

Abstract

This study investigates the psychological representations of interreligious tolerance within the Hindu-Muslim community in Senduro District, Lumajang Regency, Indonesia. The region was selected due to its unique harmony amidst religious diversity and demographic disparity. A descriptive qualitative approach with a phenomenological method was employed to uncover the subjective meanings of tolerance from both individual and communal experiences. Data were collected through naturalistic observation, semi-structured in-depth interviews, and documentation. Findings reveal that Silo Gending Site functions as a symbolic space respected by both religious groups. Daily interactions, such as: community service, interfaith celebrations, and interreligious marriages reflect emotional bonds and prosocial behaviors. Tolerance is understood through expressions like “harmony,” “considering each other’s feelings,” and “not disturbing one another.” Key driving factors include the culture of mutual cooperation and a long-standing history of peaceful coexistence, while external influences such as negative media narratives pose challenges. The study concludes that religious tolerance encompasses cognitive, affective, and conative dimensions rooted in daily social practices. This research contributes to the advancement of cross-cultural social psychology and offers a grounded model of interfaith harmony in multicultural societies.

The research method employed is quantitative, utilizing a measurement tool development approach grounded in psychometric principles. The measurement tool was developed based on three aspects: severe psychological problems, general psychological problems, and potential psychological disorders (academic, social, and family pressure). Content validity was calculated using the Aiken's V index, while reliability was estimated using the Cronbach's Alpha coefficient. Expert testing on 5 psychologists and item trials on 128 college students. The results showed that all items had an Aiken's V value > 0.40, with 54 items (55.7%) in the very high category (V ≥ 0.80). The trial on the aspect of potential psychological disorders (43 items) resulted in all items being valid (r > 0.173) and reliable (α = 0.94). The screening tool for potential psychological disorders has adequate content validity and reliability, making it suitable for use as an instrument for early identification of potential psychological disorders in college students.
