Abstract

This research explores the uniqueness and philosophy of the Bukit Rhema Chicken Church in Magelang, Central Java, which has an iconic pigeon-shaped architecture. Based on a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical approach, this study identifies the main functions of the Rhema Hill Church, its architectural design background, and its impact on the economic, cultural, and spiritual life of the surrounding community. The church was designed as a universal house of prayer that symbolizes peace and hope. Apart from being a place of worship, the Chicken Church also functions as a tourist destination, rehabilitation center, and symbol of tolerance between religious communities. Its impact includes improving the local economy through tourism, interfaith cultural integration, and strengthening the spiritual life of local communities. The results of this study reveal how the symbolism and design of the Bukit Rhema Church are able to create harmony between religious, educational, and tourism functions. These findings show that the existence of the Chicken Church is not only aesthetically valuable, but also plays an important role in strengthening local identity as well as encouraging sustainable social collaboration. In addition, the existence of educational facilities and a reflection room in the building also provides a more immersive spiritual experience for visitors, so that the Bukit Rhema Church becomes an inclusive space for various groups.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of social media as a means of regenerating Minangkabau traditional music among the younger generation through the role of traditional music content creators. The background of this research stems from the declining interest of young people in traditional music due to the dominance of popular culture and modernization. However, the emergence of content creators who utilize digital platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram has opened new opportunities for the preservation of traditional music. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach with data collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation of several Minangkabau music content creators. The results show that social media plays a crucial role in the regeneration process of traditional music through three main functions: information (promotion), interaction, and motivation. By presenting engaging visuals, combining traditional music with modern elements, and encouraging interactive audience participation, social media effectively attracts young people to learn and appreciate traditional music. In addition, regeneration is the process of inheriting cultural values through efforts to maintain the sustainability of performing arts by adapting the presentation methods and performance spaces to suit the times, so that traditional arts remain acceptable to modern society.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the types of ornaments on the Avalokitesvara Pagoda Watugong Semarang, explain their symbolic meaning in the context of Buddhist teachings, and analyze how the ornaments reflect Buddhist architectural philosophy and spiritual values. The results of the study show that this pagoda is decorated with a variety of ornaments, such as reliefs of dragons, hong birds, humans, animals, Chinese writing, amulets of the eight gods, and pineapple ornaments. Each ornament has a deep symbolic meaning, reflecting values such as love, wisdom, and balance in life. The dragon relief symbolizes power and spirituality, the hong bird represents luck and peace, while the Chinese writing and the amulet of the eight gods symbolize blessings and good fortune in life. The ornaments also reflect the Buddhist architectural philosophy that emphasizes harmony between humans, nature, and spirituality, with the towering building design as a symbol of aspiration towards spiritual perfection. Apart from being a place of worship, this pagoda also functions as an interfaith meditative space, affirming the values of tolerance and harmony. This study concludes that the ornaments on the Avalokitesvara Watugong Pagoda are not only decorative elements, but also full of philosophical and spiritual meanings that enrich cultural values and strengthen tolerance. It is recommended to improve the preservation of ornaments, the development of education, and further research to explore the deep meaning of the existing reliefs.

Abstract

This study explores the influence of childhood memories, particularly the experience of "unresolved revenge" in the form of a failed tricycle ownership, on the process of creating works of art. This phenomenon is analyzed through the lens of psychoanalysis and consumerism criticism, where childhood fantasies transform into an obsession with collecting in adulthood, as an outlet for powerful passionate sensations. Qualitatively, works of art are positioned not only as manifestations of personal expression, but also as sustainable and critical practices. The articulation of art becomes a way to resolve consumerist trauma in a non-physical way, transforming the urge for unsustainable material accumulation (the infatuation of collecting) into artistic output that reflects and critiques the symbolic prestige value of commodities in the 1980s. This study concludes that personal memory-based art practices offer a sustainable framework for psychological recovery and social critique of the endless cycle of material desires.

Abstract

The rapid pace of housing development in Bogor has created a gap with the provision of formal infrastructure, which has encouraged the emergence of community-led self-help road initiatives. While capable of addressing urgent connectivity needs, these road formations often ignore essential design standards, particularly those related to circulation and environmental context. This study focuses on a specific challenge in Bogor, namely high rainfall ("force of nature"), which contributes to road degradation, causing flooding, and reducing user comfort. Adopting a descriptive qualitative method, this study analyzes the existing self-help access conditions through field observations and a literature review focusing on Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) principles and circulation theory. Field findings confirm that the current design fails to manage surface runoff, resulting in low infiltration and the emergence of functional space conflicts (e.g., for parking and social activities). As a solution, this study proposes an integrated design demonstration that combines porous materials and micro-drainage to manage the force of nature, thereby improving circulation comfort and supporting active living for residents.
