Abstract

Background: Walking speed is an important indicator for assessing mobility in prosthesis users. One factor suspected to influence walking speed is Body Mass Index (BMI). This study aims to determine the relationship between BMI and walking speed in transtibial prosthesis users with a SACH (Solid Ankle Cushion Heel) foot design. Methods: This observational study used a cross-sectional approach and was conducted at Klinik Bangkit Kaki Palsu from January to June 2025. A total of 15 subjects were purposively selected from a population of 40 patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. BMI was calculated from body weight and height measurements, while walking speed was assessed using the 10-Meter Walk Test on a 14-meter walkway. Data normality was tested using the Shapiro-Wilk test, and the correlation analysis was performed using the Pearson product-moment test. Results: The majority of subjects were aged 26–35 years (53.3%), male (66.7%), and had a normal BMI (80%). The average walking speed between male and female subjects did not differ significantly. Statistical analysis revealed a significant correlation between BMI and walking speed, with a correlation coefficient of 0.590 and a p-value of 0.020 (p < 0.05), indicating a moderate positive relationship. Conclusion: This study found a significant relationship between BMI and walking speed among transtibial prosthesis users with a SACH foot design. These findings support the importance of considering BMI in prosthesis design and adjustment to enhance walking efficiency and user comfort.

Abstract

Background: Leucorrhea (vaginal discharge) is not a disease itself but a clinical manifestation of various gynecological conditions. It is reported that approximately 90% of cervical cancer cases are accompanied by leucorrhea. A preliminary survey conducted in July 2024 in Kebon Jeruk Village, Bandar Lampung, found that 205 out of 345 women of reproductive age experienced symptoms of leucorrhea. Inappropriate genital hygiene practices, including frequent use of pantyliners and feminine cleansing soap, are suspected risk factors for this condition. Methods: This study employed a quantitative cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of 345 women of reproductive age, with 205 participants selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through structured interviews using validated questionnaires. Bivariate analysis was performed using the chi-square test. Ethical approval was obtained from the Health Research Ethics Commission (No. 4557/EC/KEPP-UNMAL/IX/2024) Results: The results showed a statistically significant association between frequent pantyliner use and the incidence of leucorrhea (p = 0.007; OR = 5.098). Similarly, frequent use of feminine cleansing soap was significantly associated with leucorrhea (p < 0.001; OR = 4.203). Women who frequently used pantyliners and feminine cleansing soap had a higher likelihood of experiencing leucorrhea compared to those who did not use these products. Conclusion: Frequent use of pantyliners and feminine cleansing soap is significantly associated with an increased incidence of leucorrhea among women of reproductive age. Health education programs should emphasize appropriate genital hygiene practices and discourage excessive use of pantyliners. Carrying spare underwear is recommended as a safer alternative to routine pantyliner use to reduce the risk of leucorrhea.

Abstract

Background: The WHO recommends breastfeeding until two years of age to support health and prevent stunting, but breastfeeding sustainability in Indonesia remains low. This study aims to analyze factors associated with breastfeeding sustainability in children aged 12 and 23 months in Indonesia using secondary data from the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI). Methods: This cross-sectional quantitative study involved 10.769 children aged 12-23 months from 345.000 toddler households, selected through purposive sampling with inclusion criteria (mothers without twins, last child, no specific disease, child without congenital abnormalities) and exclusion (incomplete data), using a two-stage sampling technique (census block PPS and systematic household sampling). Data were analyzed using bivariate ( chi-square ) and multivariate analysis. Result: The result  showed a significant relationship between ownership index quintile, exclusive breastfeeding, , maternal education, place of birth, ANC staff, and ANC location, with p-values of <0.001 (<0.005) respectively, and the continuation of breastfeeding, but the ANC variable was not related, with a p-value of 0.062. The location or place of ANC at the maternity hospital/clinic was the main predictor with a value (AOR 1.5; 95% CI: 1.2 - 1.9), indicating that mothers who underwent ANC examinations at maternity home/clinics were 1.5 times more likely to continue breastfeeding after controlling for other variables Conclusion: Socioeconomic disparities influence access to maternal health services. Breastfeeding sustainability is influenced by socioeconomic factors, facilities, and health services

Abstract

Background: Empty nest syndrome is a psychosocial condition frequently experienced by older adults following children’s independence and departure from the household. This transition may lead to loneliness, loss of social roles, reduced meaning in life, and increased vulnerability to mental health problems. A holistic and culturally sensitive approach is therefore required. Hamka’s philosophical thought, emphasizing moral integrity, spiritual awareness, and social responsibility, offers a relevant framework to strengthen Guidance and Counseling (BK) services for older adults in Indonesia. Methods: This study employed a conceptual literature review of Hamka’s philosophical works, peer-reviewed articles on elderly mental health, and policy documents related to BK services. Thematic analysis was conducted to identify moral, ethical, and spiritual values relevant to the psychosocial needs of older adults and their potential application in counseling services. Results: The analysis identified core values including moral integrity, spiritual strengthening, character development, and redefinition of social roles in later life. These principles align with the psychosocial challenges of empty nest syndrome and can inform individual and group counseling interventions. Conclusion: Integrating Hamka’s philosophical values into BK services may enhance holistic mental health and psychosocial well-being among older adults within the Indonesian cultural context.

Abstract

Background: Stunting remains a major public health problem in Indonesia and reflects chronic nutritional deprivation during early childhood. Although national prevalence has declined in recent years, the rate remains above the World Health Organization threshold, indicating persistent and multifactorial determinants. This study aimed to identify and synthesize the main risk factors associated with stunting among children under five years of age in Indonesia. Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted using four stages: identification, screening, eligibility, and inclusion. Articles published between 2019 and 2024 were retrieved from PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar using the keywords stunting, toddlers, and risk factors. Studies that met predefined inclusion criteria and were available in full text were analyzed. Eight articles were included in the final review. Results: The analysis identified maternal knowledge, parenting practices, low birth weight, and family economic status as significant risk factors for stunting. Low birth weight showed the strongest association, followed by maternal knowledge and parenting patterns. Conclusion: Stunting in Indonesian toddlers is predominantly influenced by modifiable maternal and early-life factors. Strengthening maternal education and prenatal care is essential to reduce stunting prevalence.

Abstract

Background: Stunting remains a significant public health concern in East Nusa Tenggara Province, particularly in Kupang Regency. Despite nationally mandated specific and sensitive nutrition interventions, evidence on local implementation performance is limited. This study assessed the implementation status of stunting control programs in Kupang Regency. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 88 mothers of children who received stunting interventions. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and interviews covering 15 specific and 12 sensitive nutrition indicators. Implementation performance was measured using mean percentage scores. Data were analyzed descriptively (frequency, percentage, and mean). Results: Specific nutrition interventions achieved a mean implementation score of 68.40% across 15 indicators, indicating incomplete coverage of targeted services. Sensitive nutrition interventions showed a comparable mean score of 68.65% across 12 indicators, reflecting suboptimal multisectoral integration at the household level. Conclusion: The implementation of stunting control programs in Kupang Regency remains suboptimal across both intervention domains. Strengthening coordination, service delivery, and community-based nutrition education is essential to improve program performance and accelerate stunting reduction.

Abstract

Background: Stunting prevalence in South Kalimantan is 24.6%, exceeding the national average and indicating a persistent public health challenge. Despite various educational interventions, the stunting cases remain high. This study aimed to develop and evaluate a Behavior-Centered Design educational medium that integrates Banjar cultural values, Maasi (obedience), Maher (positive habituation), and Manuntung (commitment to completion), using a visual–auditory–kinesthetic learning approach to enhance adolescent engagement in stunting prevention. Methods: A level-3 Research and Development design with a controlled pretest-posttest method was applied to 76 adolescents equally assigned to intervention and control groups. The intervention consisted of four culturally contextualized educational games (comprehensive-card, factor-cards, shame-blocks, and true-false cards) each emphasizing anemia, nutrient balance, healthy behavior, and stunting prevention. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire assessing cognitive, attitude, and motivation toward stunting prevention. Results: Statistical analyses (paired t-tests, independent t-tests, ANOVA, post hoc) showed significant improvements in all domains (p < 0.05), cognitive increasing by 25.7%, attitude by 30.8%, and motivation by 17.1%. The games demonstrated strong cultural strong resonance, with representation of Maasi (97.36%), Maher (92.10%), and Manuntung (97.36%) values. Conclusion: In conclusion, the culturally integrated Behavior-Centered Design educational medium effectively enhances adolescent engagement and behavioral readiness for stunting prevention, offering a promising culturally grounded model for public health promotion in South Kalimantan.

Abstract

Background: The prevalence of detected postpartum depression (PPD) ranges from 10-25% of total deliveries. The impact of this condition does not only end with the mother but also has the potential to generate recurring cycles of mental health disorders in children if left unaddressed. Education is the most widely developed and successful intervention. This systematic review aims to evaluate the effectiveness of educational media in preventing postpartum depression. Methods: This study is a systematic review following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines. The databases searched included PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar, covering articles published between 2010 and 2023. The inclusion criteria focused on studies using educational media interventions, while exclusion criteria removed articles lacking clear PPD-related outcomes. Of 296 articles identified, 6 studies met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: The review findings indicate that the most developed models are Psychoeducation, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Education, and Socioeducation. All three models are effective in addressing PPD. However, Psychoeducation is the most feasible medium for model development, given its accessibility, ease of implementation, and positive patient outcomes. Conclusion: These findings suggest that integrating psychoeducation into maternal health programs could serve as a practical and scalable intervention to reduce the risk of postpartum depression.

Abstract

Background: Stunting in children is a significant public health issue linked to impaired cognitive development and lower IQ scores. Parental care plays a critical role in mitigating the negative effects of stunting on a child’s intellectual abilities. This study examines the relationship between Intelligence Quotient (IQ) and stunting in elementary school children, as well as the influence of parental care patterns in Donggala. Conducted at SDN 1 and SDN 3 Tanantovea, the research aims to identify how stunting affects cognitive development and how different parenting styles may moderate this effect. Methods: This cross-sectional study used a purposive sample of 30 students aged 6-12 years at SDN 1 and SDN 3 Tanantovea who experienced stunting (H/A z-score <-2 SD per WHO standard). Purposive sampling method selected 42 potential participants based on school records; after inclusion screening (appropriate age, confirmed stunting, parental consent); exclusion: chronic conditions, incomplete data. Data were collected from August to October 2024 using anthropometry, standardized IQ tests, and parenting questionnaires (emotional support, cognitive stimulation). Multiple regression analysis was adjusted for confounding variables at the p < 0.05 level. Results: There was a significant negative relationship between stunting severity and IQ scores (p < 0.01). Supportive parenting moderated this effect, with high-quality parenting increasing IQ in stunted children (p < 0.05). Moderately stunted children (n=18): 72.2% average IQ, 22.2% low IQ. Severely stunted (n=12): 75.0% low IQ (χ² = 12.45, p = 0.002). High parenting (n=15): 73.3% average IQ, 6.7% high IQ; low parenting: 66.7% low IQ (χ² = 9.82, p = 0.007). Conclusion: Stunting negatively impacts the IQ of elementary school children; however, supportive parental care can help lessen these effects. These results emphasize the importance of integrating nutritional and parenting interventions to promote optimal cognitive development among children facing stunting.
