Abstract

Background: Walking speed is an important indicator for assessing mobility in prosthesis users. One factor suspected to influence walking speed is Body Mass Index (BMI). This study aims to determine the relationship between BMI and walking speed in transtibial prosthesis users with a SACH (Solid Ankle Cushion Heel) foot design. Methods: This observational study used a cross-sectional approach and was conducted at Klinik Bangkit Kaki Palsu from January to June 2025. A total of 15 subjects were selected using purposive sampling from a population of 40 patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. BMI was calculated from body weight and height measurements, while walking speed was assessed using the 10-Meter Walk Test on a 14-meter walkway. Data normality was tested using the Shapiro-Wilk test, and the correlation analysis was performed using the Pearson Product Moment test. Results: The results showed that the majority of subjects were aged 26–35 years (53.3%), male (66.7%), and had a normal BMI (80%). The average walking speed between male and female subjects did not differ significantly. Statistical analysis revealed a significant correlation between BMI and walking speed, with a correlation coefficient of 0.590 and a p-value of 0.020 (p < 0.05), indicating a moderate positive relationship. Conclusion: This study concludes that there is a significant relationship between BMI and walking speed in transtibial prosthesis users with a SACH foot design. These findings support the importance of considering BMI in prosthesis design and adjustment to enhance walking efficiency and user comfort.

Abstract

Background: Stunting prevention programs based on local wisdom consider socio-cultural factors to ensure sustainability. This study analyzes the impact of a mother and toddler class model incorporating local resources—specifically tilapia fish (porridge and nuggets) and moringa leaves (pudding)—as innovative interventions for stunting prevention in Limboto District, Gorontalo Regency. Methods: This research is a quantitative study using a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test research design. Probability sampling was used with a total of 43 samples. Results:  Statistical analysis revealed a significant improvement in maternal knowledge and attitudes regarding local wisdom-based complementary feeding (MPASI), with mean scores rising from 7.44 (SD=1.84) to 9.21 (SD=2.08) with a significance value 0.000 (p<0.05) and a t-score of -1.371. Maternal parenting patterns also improved significantly from a mean of 8.13 (SD=2.12) to 9.51 (SD=2.26) with a significance value of 0.000 (p<0.05) and a t-score of -6.437 at the Limboto Health Center, Gorontalo Regency. Conclusion: This study is expected to contribute to the understanding of stunting prevention by considering the importance of nutritional interventions, health education, and the reduction of stunting rates.

Abstract

Background: Leucorrhea (vaginal discharge) is not a disease itself but a clinical manifestation of various gynecological conditions. It is reported that approximately 90% of cervical cancer cases are accompanied by leucorrhea. A preliminary survey conducted in July 2024 in Kebon Jeruk Village, Bandar Lampung, found that 205 out of 345 women of reproductive age experienced symptoms of leucorrhea. Inappropriate genital hygiene practices, including frequent use of pantyliners and feminine cleansing soap, are suspected risk factors for this condition. Methods: This study employed a quantitative cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of 345 women of reproductive age, with 205 participants selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through structured interviews using validated questionnaires. Bivariate analysis was performed using the chi-square test. Ethical approval was obtained from the Health Research Ethics Commission (No. 4557/EC/KEPP-UNMAL/IX/2024) Results: The results showed a statistically significant association between frequent pantyliner use and the incidence of leucorrhea (p = 0.007; OR = 5.098). Similarly, frequent use of feminine cleansing soap was significantly associated with leucorrhea (p < 0.001; OR = 4.203). Women who frequently used pantyliners and feminine cleansing soap had a higher likelihood of experiencing leucorrhea compared to those who did not use these products. Conclusion: Frequent use of pantyliners and feminine cleansing soap is significantly associated with an increased incidence of leucorrhea among women of reproductive age. Health education programs should emphasize appropriate genital hygiene practices and discourage excessive use of pantyliners. Carrying spare underwear is recommended as a safer alternative to routine pantyliner use to reduce the risk of leucorrhea.

Abstract

Background: The WHO recommends breastfeeding until two years of age to support health and prevent stunting, but breastfeeding sustainability in Indonesia remains low. This study aims to analyze factors associated with breastfeeding sustainability in children aged 12 and 23 months in Indonesia using secondary data from the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI). Methods: This cross-sectional quantitative study involved 10.769 children aged 12-23 months from 345.000 toddler households, selected through purposive sampling with inclusion criteria (mothers without twins, last child, no specific disease, child without congenital abnormalities) and exclusion (incomplete data), using a two-stage sampling technique (census block PPS and systematic household sampling). Data were analyzed using bivariate ( chi-square ) and multivariate analysis. Result: The result  showed a significant relationship between ownership index quintile, exclusive breastfeeding, , maternal education, place of birth, ANC staff, and ANC location, with p-values of <0.001 (<0.005) respectively, and the continuation of breastfeeding, but the ANC variable was not related, with a p-value of 0.062. The location or place of ANC at the maternity hospital/clinic was the main predictor with a value (AOR 1.5; 95% CI: 1.2 - 1.9), indicating that mothers who underwent ANC examinations at maternity home/clinics were 1.5 times more likely to continue breastfeeding after controlling for other variables Conclusion: Socioeconomic disparities influence access to maternal health services. Breastfeeding sustainability is influenced by socioeconomic factors, facilities, and health services

Abstract

Background: Empty nest syndrome is a psychosocial condition frequently experienced by older adults following children’s independence and departure from the household. This transition may lead to loneliness, loss of social roles, reduced meaning in life, and increased vulnerability to mental health problems. A holistic and culturally sensitive approach is therefore required. Hamka’s philosophical thought, emphasizing moral integrity, spiritual awareness, and social responsibility, offers a relevant framework to strengthen Guidance and Counseling (BK) services for older adults in Indonesia. Methods: This study employed a conceptual literature review of Hamka’s philosophical works, peer-reviewed articles on elderly mental health, and policy documents related to BK services. Thematic analysis was conducted to identify moral, ethical, and spiritual values relevant to the psychosocial needs of older adults and their potential application in counseling services. Results: The analysis identified core values including moral integrity, spiritual strengthening, character development, and redefinition of social roles in later life. These principles align with the psychosocial challenges of empty nest syndrome and can inform individual and group counseling interventions. Conclusion: Integrating Hamka’s philosophical values into BK services may enhance holistic mental health and psychosocial well-being among older adults within the Indonesian cultural context.
