Abstract

The Cap Go Meh celebration on Kemaro Island attracts attention because it is attended by people from various cultural backgrounds, creating a unique multiethnic phenomenon. This diversity raises questions about the reasons behind the participation of multiethnic communities in the celebration. This research uses the Cultural Peace theory developed by Johan Galtung as the main analytical framework. This theory emphasizes the importance of cultural peace created through harmonious social interactions and mutual respect for differences. The results show that multiethnic communities visit Kemaro Island during Cap Go Meh with various purposes, namely visiting the graves of Siti Fatimah and Tan Bunn Ann, learning history, and also enjoying the atmosphere of the Cap Go Meh celebration which has many events such as lion dance. Cultural Peace works through the interactions of multiethnic communities who visit Kemaro Island during the Cap Go Meh event.

Abstract

This research centers on the government's endeavors to enhance regional levy revenues, acknowledging the persistently minimal contribution of regional levies to the Original Regional Income. Data on Regional Retribution spanning from 2016 to 2020 was sourced from the Regional Asset and Financial Management Agency Report, while the analysis of government initiatives was conducted through extensive interviews with various sources. The study reveals that the government's endeavors to augment levy revenues remain notably deficient. These efforts primarily entail the enactment of regional regulations, yet they lack the provision of standard operating procedures and fail to implement rigorous monitoring of levy achievements. Consequently, the government's strategies for bolstering levy revenues are characterized by a considerable dearth of comprehensive frameworks and rigorous oversight mechanisms, underscoring the necessity for more robust and well- rounded approaches to address this fiscal challenge effectively.

Abstract

The development of tourism destinations through unique culinary experiences has become a key strategy in attracting tourists and boosting the tourism industry. Among these innovations, molecular gastronomy stands out as an emerging trend that blends science and cuisine to create novel and interactive dining experiences. This study aims to explore consumer responses to the development of tourism destinations through molecular gastronomy, with a particular focus on understanding the factors that drive interest and participation in such gastronomic experiences. Through a comprehensive analysis, this research examines consumer perceptions and preferences regarding molecular gastronomy as a potential attraction at tourist destinations. The study identifies key aspects that influence consumer interest, such as the novelty of the gastronomic experience, the perceived value of the experience, and the role of promotional efforts in enhancing awareness and attracting visitors. Additionally, the research highlights the importance of affordable pricing and high-quality tastes as critical factors in shaping consumer willingness to visit destinations offering molecular gastronomy experiences. Furthermore, the study delves into the expectations of consumers regarding the involvement of governmental and tourism authorities in promoting molecular gastronomy-based products to enhance the appeal of tourist destinations. It explores the desire for further development of these gastronomic offerings as part of broader tourism strategies aimed at diversifying the types of attractions available to travelers. Overall, the findings suggest that molecular gastronomy has significant potential to become a major culinary attraction in tourism, with consumer responses indicating a high level of interest in experiencing such innovations. The study provides valuable insights into the role of culinary experiences in tourism development and underscores the importance of targeted marketing strategies, quality control, and government support in fostering the growth of this unique tourism sector.

Abstract

The Baliem Valley is considered the center of civilization in the Papua Highlands. Its rich cultural diversity has made the Baliem Valley well known both nationally and internationally. Many traditional practices are still preserved to this day. One such tradition is the culture of Nomat. Prior to the arrival of the Gospel in the Baliem Valley, this practice was known as Wakun, but later the name was changed to Nomat. Nomat is a tradition of giving or repaying gratitude in anticipation of a person’s death. It is carried out by the family of the sick person as a form of payment or appreciation to the maternal uncles and aunts (the siblings of the patient’s mother) or to others who have contributed significantly to the patient’s life. Through the process of inculturation, Nomat can serve as a meaningful channel for the growth of Christian faith. Inculturation refers to the process by which the church embraces cultural practices as a medium for spreading the Gospel, without compromising the core purity of its message. The goal of inculturation in this context is to use Nomat as a platform for evangelism—both to the ailing individual and to the family and community members attending the Nomat event. Additionally, through a contextual pastoral approach, church leaders can educate congregants that the Nomat ceremony does not need to be extravagant or burdensome. Instead, the central focus should be the proclamation of the Gospel, thereby avoiding economic and social strain on families. The Mic Kelson Ai Hitigima congregation is one of the communities that continues to practice the Nomat tradition. Therefore, this journal aims to explore the inculturation of the Nomat tradition and its influence on the development of Christian faith within this church community. This research adopts a qualitative-descriptive approach, utilizing observation, interviews with church leaders, congregants, neighboring churches, and a literature review. The findings show that the Nomat tradition has a dual impact: it strengthens family bonds and fosters social responsibility as an expression of love and respect. However, if not approached wisely, it can also cause economic burden and social conflict within households. This paper employs a contextual pastoral approach to bridge the values of local culture with Christian teachings.
