Abstract

Swear words are used to express emotions such as sadness, happiness, anger, confusion, disappointment, frustration, and others. This work was conceived with the aim of exploring swear words that fit the context of the movie Good Boys by Gene Stupnitsky. This research uses qualitative method by using sociolinguistic approach. To obtain the types of swear word and to find out the types of swearing, the researcher used data analysis techniques by Miles & Huberman (1994), namely, data reduction, data display, conclusion. As a result of this study it found that there four types of swear words by Andersson & Trudgill (1992) known as Expletives Swear Words, Abusive Swear Words, Humorous Swear Words, Auxiliary Swear Swear Words. The results of this study show that the types of swear words obtained in the movie Good Boys with a total of 80 data and the type of swear words most commonly found is Expletive Swear Word with 49 data obtained. In contrast, the least type obtained is Humorous Swear Word with 5 data

Abstract

This research aims to describe Christian Grey's personality in the novel “Fifty Shades of Grey” by E. L. James. This research uses qualitative descriptive method and Sigmund Freud's theoryin order to analyze Grey's psychological condition. The techniques of analyzing data are through three steps: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The researcher finds 20 data deal with Freud’s id, ego and superego. The results show that in id, there are 10 data. While in ego, there are 8 data. Whereas in superego, there are 2 data. The most dominant personality structure in his character is id. As the conclusions, Grey’s id shows that he has some strong sexual desires and aggressive urges. Grey’s ego shows that he tries to negotiate with Anastasia before having sexual activity. Whereas, Grey’s superego shows that he has a commitment as a principle in having a relationship with his partner. As the suggestions, this research is expected to provide readers with a deeper understanding to Christian Grey as the main character in the novel, to be as reference to the next researchers, and to inform people that the memory in the past may affect a person in his personality and his relationship with others.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of the Cocomelon YouTube channel in enhancing English language skills in early childhood. With the rapid advancement of technology, particularly the development of new media such as social media and online platforms like YouTube, children are increasingly exposed to digital content from a young age. YouTube, being a popular online platform, offers a plenty of educational and entertaining content, including channels like Cocomelon, which cater specifically to children. The research explores the impact of Cocomelon as a medium for learning English vocabulary among children aged 4-6 years old. Utilizing a descriptive qualitative method with a literature review approach, the study examines how children engage with the channel's content and its effects on their English language skills. Data collection techniques involve interviews, observations, and documentation, with children aged 4-6 as the primary subjects. Findings suggest that Cocomelon, with its engaging animations, songs, and stories, significantly contributes to children's English language acquisition. The repetitive use of English vocabulary in various contexts, coupled with captivating visuals and melodies, facilitates vocabulary retention and comprehension. Moreover, the channel's content fosters children's motivation and enthusiasm for learning English, as observed through their active engagement with the videos. The study underscores the importance of technology integration in education, particularly in early childhood, and highlights YouTube as a valuable tool for language learning. By leveraging platforms like Cocomelon, educators and parents can create an immersive and enjoyable learning environment conducive to children's language development. Overall, the research concludes that Cocomelon's YouTube channel has a positive impact on early childhood English language skills, offering a fun and effective medium for vocabulary acquisition. However, it emphasizes the need for parental guidance and supplementary learning activities to maximize the channel's educational benefits.

Abstract

The development of video learning media for the English course at the Islamic Religious Education Study Program, Universitas Muhammadiyah Gorontalo, aims to enhance the learning experience and improve student engagement. This research explores the design, implementation, and effectiveness of video-based instructional materials tailored to the needs of students in this specific academic context. Using a mixed-methods approach, the study collects data through surveys, interviews, and performance assessments to evaluate the impact of video learning on student comprehension, retention, and satisfaction. Preliminary findings indicate that video learning media significantly contribute to better understanding of course content, increased motivation, and active participation in the learning process. This development not only addresses the challenges of traditional classroom settings but also aligns with contemporary educational trends towards digital learning. The study underscores the importance of integrating multimedia resources in higher education to foster an interactive and dynamic learning environment. Future research will focus on refining the content and exploring long-term effects on academic performance.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to determine whether Learning Starts With A Question Method (LSQ) can improving Student’s Reading Comprehension in humor stories text at MTs Arafah Bitung. This research is action classroom research, carried out at MTs Arafah Bitung Class VIIIA. Measures used in this study are as follows: (1) action planning, (2) Implementation of the action, (3) Observation, (4) Reflection. The action sequences is called a cycle of activity. Activity in this study conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of two meetings. The technique collecting the data gained through observation guidelines teacher activities, student' activities and oral test. Data were analyzed by means of: The number of aspects obtained divided by the total aspects of assessment and then multiplied by one hundred percent. Based on the result of research before implementation of the action the number of students by 20 students. the average score is 41,8 and after the action cycle I increase to 66,6 and average score on the cycle II increased to 79,8. The total of student who achieve a minimum standard of completeness is also increasing. Before action is taken only 1 student (5%) who achieve a minimimun of completeness, at cycle I become 8 Students (40%), at the cycle II increased become 17 Students (85%). Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of Humor Stories Text and throwing the Learning With A Questions (LSQ) can be one way or alternative way to teaching English. Especially to improve the students' reading comprehension.
