Abstract

Compatibility of Spodoptera Litura Nuclear Polyhedrosis ViruS (SlNPV) With Tropical Yam (Dioscorea hispida Denst) Ekstract on Larvae Mortality Spodoptera litura Fab.ABSTRACT. Spodoptera litura is a polyphagus and primery pest on many plants. This insect can be infected by nuclear polyhedrosis virus (NPV) and tropical yam was knowingly capable of controlling the insect. The research was aimed at finding an effective concentration of combination of SlNPV and tropical yam extract on mortality of S. litura larva. The research was conducted in Plant Pest Laboratory of Plant Pest and Disease Departemen, Agriculture Faculty, Syiah Kuala University. The experiment applied a completely randomized design (CRD), consisting of six treatments and four replications. The treatment were in SlNPV concentrations of 0, 3x105, 3x106, 3x107, 3x108, and 3x109 polyhedra inclusion body/ml respectively, combined with poisonous for gadung extract in concentration of 120 ml L-1. Data were analyzed by analysis of variance and followed by Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at level of 0,05. The result showed that application of combination of SlNPV and tropical yam extract was effective and compatible in controlling S. litura. In general, mortality of S. litura was significantly different than control. Mortality of S. litura at all treatments of concentration except S1 and S0 were 100 per cent at 9,8,8, and 7 day after application (DAA). Average of the fastest larvae mortality was 5,46 days given by 3x109 polyhedra inclusion body ml L-1 and the longest was 7,38 days given by control. Treatments of combination of SlNPV and tropical yam extract at concentration of 3x107, 3x108, and 3x109 was compatible and effective in controlling S. litura larvae with mortality level of 85,95, and 100 per cent at 7 DAA, respectively.

Abstract

In Vitro and Ex Vitro Growth of Plantlet of Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin Bneth.)ABSTRACT. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of sucrose concentration and activated charcoal on the growth shoot and root in vitro and ex vitro of nilam Aceh (Pogostemon cablin Benth.). Explants for this study were ±1 cm in length with 4 leaf, which were derived from sterile shoot culture. The treatment for were cultured on MS basal medium supplemented with sucrose and activated charcoal. The treatment for this study was the concentration of activated charcoal consisting of three levels: 0 (0%), 10 (1%), 20 (2%), 30 (3%), 40 g L-1 (0.2%). Sucrose concentration of 3% without activated charcoal resulted in the good response based on the number of axillary shoots (2,22 shoots per explants), the length of shoot (5,05 cm), the number of leaf (17,76 leaves per explants), the green leaf level (23,01), the survival shoot (93,33%), the number of root (15,33 root per explants) and the length of root (1,23 cm).

Abstract

Controlling of Soil Erosion and Run-off by Vertical Mulch Technology on the Citrus Cultivation at Hill SlopeABSTRACT. The effects of vertical mulch applications on erosion control and run-off, also soil properties and fertility on citrus cultivations at hill slope had been done in July to November, 2007 in buffer zone of Gunung Leuser National Park, Rumah Galuh Village, Sei Bingei Sub-district, Langkat district, with 560 meters altitude, and 22,5% land slope. Two vertical mulch application are: vertical mulch having the same aim with contour line, and ring vertical mulch. The conservations methods were studied are pile having the same aim with contour line, pile ring, ring of mulch in gunny-sack. Two control experiments are: horizontal mulch application, and without mulch application. These result are: vertical mulch applications could control erosion and run-off and affected physical and chemical soil properties better than horizontal mulch application. The best of conservation methods application where controlling erosion and and run-off are contour pile and mulch in gunny-sack, and affected on soil physical and biological properties are ring vertical mulch, but for affecting soil chemical properties are mulch in gunny-sack.

Abstract

Response of Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) Pollination to Honey Bees (Aphis cerana) and Crop PopulationABSTRACT. High percentage of empty seed most problem sunflower cultivation in Indonesian, less native pollinators may be caused. Grown sunflower in the beekeepers state can be raising sum of fully seeds per head, in the other hand sunflower crops was source of nectar and pollen. The objective of this research was study response of sunflower with expression of percentage of empty seeds and seeds yield to be present honey-bees. The research was conducted in Buanasakti village, Batanghari sub-district, West Lampung district from December 2007 to March 2008. The treatment was distance between beekeepers state (in the stable: 0, 2, and 4 km) and number of plant population per ha (40,000, 60,000, and 80,000 plants). The conclusion was: (1) in the beekeepers state was produce number of branch was higher 124% and 32% than 4 km and 2 km from beekeepers state, respectively: percentage of empty seeds, dry seed per plot and harvest index in the beekeepers state was increasing 199%, 215,47% and 32.36% than 4 km from beekeepers state, (2) The population of 80,000 plant per ha was increasing dry weight of seeds per plot was higher than 60,000 and 40,000 plant per ha, and (3) in each state was difference number of population caused number of flowering date and head diameter prominent was significantly.

Abstract

Effect of Inoculation of Indegenous Population of Arbuscular Mycorrhiza Fungi and Tillage Systems of Mycorrhiza Effectiveness, Yield Components, and Yield of Upland Rice (Oryza sativa L.) on UltisolsABSTRACT. The field experiment was conducted to study the growth characteristics, agronomy characteristics, and yield of upland rice on ultisols with various dosages of AMF inoculants on three tillage systems. The experiment was carried out Kampung Baru village, Bandar Lampung City from April until August 2005. The experiment used a spilt plot pattern in randomized block design. The main plot was soil tillage systems with consisted of three levels, those were intensive tillage, minimum tillage, and no tillage; and sub plot was AMF inoculants dosages with consisted of four levels, those were 0, 6.0, 13.0, and 19.50 ton ha-1. The result of experiment showed that tillage systems and AMF inoculants affected produces the highest yield for rice, and this yield depend on tillage systems. The highest yield of rice was 3,559.03 g 8m-2 obtained of optimum dosage 13 ton ha-1 AMF inoculants in minimum tillage.

Abstract

Pengaruh Kematangan Buah dan Suhu Simpan Terhadap Kualitas dan Daya Simpan Irisan Buah TomatABSTRAK. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengevaluasi pengaruh kematangan buah dan suhu simpan terhadap kualitas dan daya simpan irisan buah tomat. Penelitian yang menggunakan tomat cv. ‘Revolution’ ini dilaksanakan di Laboratorium Pascapanen Hortikultura milik ‘School of Agronomy and Horticulture’ the University of Queensland, Australia pada tahun 2003. Perlakuan disusun secara faktorial 4 x 3 dalam rancangan acak lengkap dengan 5 ulangan. Faktor pertama adalah 4 tingkat kematangan buah yaitu buah semburat-kuning (‘turning’), oranye (‘pink’) merah muda (‘light-red’) dan merah (‘red’) dan faktor kedua adalah 3 suhu simpan berturut-turut suhu 0, 5 dan 100C. Buah tomat diiris dengan ‘slicing machine’. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pericarp irisan tomat dari buah semburat-kuning lebih keras, pembentukan warna merah lebih lambat, mengandung padatan terlarut lebih rendah, tingkat keasaman lebih tinggi, umur simpan lebih lama (10 hari) dari pada irisan tomat dari buah merah. Irisan tomat yang disimpan pada suhu 00C pericarpnya lebih keras, menghasilkan padatan terlarut lebih tinggi, tingkat keasaman lebih tinggi, pembentukan warna merah lebih lambat daripada irisan tomat yang diisimpan pada suhu 100C. Irisan buah tomat dari buah oranye dan merah muda menunjukkan kualitas terbaik untuk dikonsumsi pasca penyimpanan, sedangkan 00C adalah suhu simpan yang menghasilkan kualitas irisan tomat terbaik dan umur simpan lebih lama (12 hari).

Abstract

Drought Stress Effect on Growth, Yield and Leaf Proline Accumulation of Hot PepperABSTRACT. The objective of this experiment were to evaluate effects of drought stress at vegetative stage on growth, yield and leaf proline content of hot pepper. Drought stress was conditioned by reduction watering of crop show wilt symptom 70% during the period of 21 – 54 days after planting (DAP). Result of the experiment indicated that drought stress reduced plant height, branch number, stem, diameter, root length, shoot, root, and biomass dry weight and fruit yield. Sensivity index calculated based on biomass of five hot pepper cultivars showed that Prabu, laris, dan jati laba were the medium tolerance to drought stress. There was no drought tolerance cultivar if the sensivity index was calculated based on fruit yield.

Abstract

Determination of Paraquat (1,1,-Dimethyl-4,4’-Bipyridilium Dichloride) Maximum Adsorption Capacity and Adsorption Energy on Farm SoilABSTRACT. The purpose of this research to determination of paraquat (1,1,-Dimethyl-4,4’-Bipyridilium Dichloride) maximum adsorption capacity and adsorption energy. Maximum adsorption capacity and adsorption energy were predicted by Gibbs free energy, G. The paraquat adsorption to show reversible properties and therefore Gibbs free energy can determinate by equilibrium constant, K. Maximum adsorption capacity were 18,811 mg/g (0,000101 mol/g) and Gibbs free energy was -25360 kJ/mol for 1100C soil.

Abstract

The Effect of Drying Rate on Physiological Changes in Seed of Avicennia marina (Forsk.) Vierh.ABSTRACT. Avicennia marina seed has been classified a highly recalcitrant that need the right handling for maintaining seed viability. The objective og this study was to investigate physiological, biochemical, anatomical changes at various drying rate, fast, medium and slow drying. Seed moisture content, germination percentage, speed of germination, index of vigor, time to reach 50% germination, electrolyte leachates, oligosaccharide content were determined, and anatomical of embryonic axes was observed at various times durng desiccation. The result of the experiment show that the moisture content of A. marina seed was 60.75-64.67% at shedding. Time to reach the lowest moisture content (32-33%) at fast, medium and slow drying were 6, 10 and 14 days, respectively. First and final count in germination test were 13 and 22 days. Critical moisture content of seed based on time to reach 50% viability (P50) were 37.25, 43.28, and 45.92% for fast, medium and slow drying, respectively. The critical moisture content based on speed of germination were 36.51, 42.47, and 45.01% for fast, medium and slow drying, respectively.
