Abstract

The phenomenon of homosexuality presents significant ethical and theological challenges for the Christian church amid a modern society that is increasingly open to diverse sexual orientations. This study aims to analyze how Christian ethics respond to homosexuality through a theological approach grounded in Scripture and a contextual perspective that considers the current social realities of the church. The research employs a qualitative library method with a theological-ethical approach, utilizing relevant academic literature and biblical sources. The findings indicate that although the Bible explicitly rejects homosexual practices, the church is called to extend love and restoration to those involved. A contextual approach enables the church to uphold moral truth while responding empathetically, inclusively, and pastorally to human struggles. The study concludes that integrating biblical moral principles with contextual understanding provides a foundation for the church’s ethical stance that is just, wise, and relevant in addressing the issue of homosexuality. This research offers practical contributions for churches and theologians in developing an ethical framework that is not only normative but also deeply human and redemptive.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the extent to which the apostle Paul's exhortation on living in love, as written in Romans 12:9–21, is implemented among the youth of the Sungai Yordan Church, Jemaat Segala Bangsa, Nanga Pinoh, Melawi, West Kalimantan. A life rooted in love is reflected through doing good and serving others. Although the majority of the youth demonstrate growth in love through caring attitudes and mutual assistance, interview findings reveal the presence of behaviours contrary to the values of love, such as theft, harbouring resentment, conflict, and bullying. These indicate the need for continuous teaching on the principles of love. This research employs a quantitative approach, with data collected using a Likert scale and analysed through SPSS 25. Validity, reliability, and normality tests were conducted, along with hypothesis testing using the Confidence Interval formula and regression significance test (F reg) at a 5% significance level. The results show that the implementation of Paul's exhortation is categorised as high, with a Confidence Interval ranging from 129.6831 to 133.4955. The most dominant dimension in the implementation of love is "Serving Others" (D2), contributing 91.9%, while the dimension of "Doing Good" (D1) contributes 85.2%. These findings underscore the importance of reinforcing the values of service and kindness in the spiritual development of the church’s youth.

Abstract

Love is a fundamental principle in Christian life that should be expressed concretely within the church community. In practice, however, this teaching is not always fully internalized by believers. This study aims to examine the level of implementation of the Apostle Paul’s teaching on mutual love based on Romans 12:9–21 and to identify the most dominant contributing dimension among the congregation of Gereja Bethel Indonesia Sungai Yordan Telogah, Sanggau, West Kalimantan. Employing a quantitative survey method, data were collected from 26 respondents using a validated and reliable questionnaire and analyzed through descriptive statistics and simple linear regression. The results indicate that the implementation of mutual love is categorized as moderate. Regression analysis shows that the dimension of loving without demanding retaliation has the strongest influence, contributing 92.2% to the overall implementation, exceeding the dimension of brotherly love. This finding suggests that forgiveness-oriented love plays a central role in shaping congregational life. The study concludes that sustained pastoral teaching is necessary to deepen the internalization of Paul’s ethical teaching as a consistent spiritual character within the church.

Abstract

This study investigates the implementation of the Apostle Paul’s teaching on love based on 1 Corinthians 13:1–13 among Sunday School children aged 7–12 years at Bethel Tabernacle Church of Christ Alpha Omega Temahar, Landak, West Kalimantan. The research addresses the discrepancy between the theological teaching of love and its observable application in children’s daily attitudes and behaviors. A quantitative research design was employed using a Likert-scale questionnaire administered to 26 respondents. Data were analyzed using SPSS 25 through validity and reliability testing, normality testing, confidence interval analysis, linear regression, and one-way ANOVA at a 5% significance level. The findings indicate that the overall implementation of Paul’s teaching on love is classified at a moderate level, as reflected in a confidence interval ranging from 140.8919 to 149.6466. Among the examined dimensions, the Action of Love (D2) emerged as the most influential factor, demonstrating a strong correlation (r = 0.915) and a coefficient of determination of 0.838, accounting for 83.8% of the variance. The study concludes that while the teaching of love has been moderately implemented, greater emphasis on practical expressions of love is essential. These results provide empirical support for strengthening action-oriented Christian character education for children.

Abstract

Marital harmony in Christian families often faces challenges such as differences in perspectives, weak emotional control, and unhealthy communication. These conditions indicate that biblical teachings have not been consistently implemented in family life. Based on this context, this study addresses the question of the level of implementation of the Apostle Peter’s teaching on marital harmony based on 1 Peter 3:8–12 and identifies the most dominant influencing dimension. The purpose of this study is to measure the level of implementation of this teaching and to determine the dominant factor shaping family harmony among the congregation of the Jordan River Church of All Nations in Melawi, West Kalimantan. This study employed a quantitative survey method involving 25 respondents. Data were collected using a validated and reliable questionnaire and analyzed through descriptive statistics, normality tests, confidence intervals, and linear regression analysis. The findings indicate that the implementation level of the Apostle Peter’s teaching is categorized as moderate. All dimensions positively influence marital harmony, with righteous living emerging as the most dominant factor. This study emphasizes the importance of fostering righteous living as a foundation for harmony in Christian family life.

Abstract

A life pleasing to God represents a theological and ethical calling that requires character transformation and concrete obedience in the life of believers. Based on 1 Thessalonians 4:1–12, the Apostle Paul emphasizes that a life pleasing to God is manifested through holiness, love toward others, and a credible Christian witness within society. This study aims to examine the level of a life pleasing to God and to identify the most dominant dimension shaping congregational practice. Employing a quantitative approach with a survey method, data were collected from members of the Indonesian Gospel Tabernacle Church Eklesia Tumbang Bai using a Likert-scale questionnaire. The data were analyzed through validity and reliability tests, normality testing, confidence interval analysis, and linear regression using SPSS 25. The findings reveal that the level of a life pleasing to God falls within the high category, contradicting the initial hypothesis that predicted a moderate level. Among the three analyzed dimensions, being a good witness emerged as the most dominant factor, with a correlation coefficient of 0.965 and a contribution of 93.1%. These results indicate that behaviors reflecting the character of Christ play a decisive role in shaping a consistent and contextually relevant life pleasing to God within the congregation.

Abstract

Obedience to the commands of the Lord Jesus is the primary calling for every follower of Christ. Based on John 15:9-17, this obedience is manifested in mutual love, abiding in Christ's love, and bearing fruit. This study aims to determine the level of confirmation of the apostle John's teaching on obedience to the commands of the Lord Jesus and to identify the most dominant dimensions in shaping the obedience of the congregation at the Sungai Yordan Philos Koli Church, Sanggau, West Kalimantan. The research used an explanatory quantitative method through surveys and interviews with 30 congregation respondents aged 24-50 years. The data were analyzed using Pearson's correlation test and one-way ANOVA test with the help of SPSS 25. The results of this study indicate that the level of obedience among congregations is moderate, while the dimension of mutual love is the most dominant factor in shaping obedience, with a correlation coefficient of 0.949 and a determination of 0.85 (90% contribution). This study confirms that true love is the main basis of obedience to the commands of the Lord Jesus, which is manifested through sacrifice and willingness to bear fruit for the glory of God.

Abstract

Christian families play a vital role in shaping children’s faith, character, and relational life. Ephesians 6:1–4 emphasizes a balanced responsibility between children, who are called to obey and honor their parents, and parents, who are responsible for nurturing their children in love and the instruction of the Lord. However, in congregational practice, these principles are not always consistently understood or applied. This study aims to confirm the level of congregational understanding regarding the duties of children and parents based on Ephesians 6:1–4 and to identify the most dominant dimension influencing this understanding. This research employed a quantitative approach using a survey method involving 25 respondents from the Bethel Church of Indonesia Sungai Yordan, Tanjung Maya, Sanggau, West Kalimantan. Data analysis included validity, reliability, and normality tests, a 5% Confidence Interval, linear regression analysis, and one-way ANOVA using SPSS version 25. The findings indicate that the confirmation of children’s and parents’ duties falls within the moderate category. Furthermore, the dimension of parents’ duties toward children emerged as the most dominant factor, contributing 84.4% to the overall confirmation. These results highlight the central role of parental responsibility in fostering Christian family relationships grounded in biblical principles.

Abstract

Philippians 2:5–11 is one of the most significant Christological passages in the New Testament, emphasizing the humility and obedience of Jesus Christ as the supreme model of service. In Pauline theology, ministry is not merely an external activity but an inner disposition reflected in self-emptying, prioritizing others, and glorifying God. This study aims to examine the level of implementation of a servant attitude based on Philippians 2:5–11 and to identify the most dominant dimension shaping congregational life. The research employs a quantitative approach using a survey method involving 23 respondents from the Indonesian Faithful Christian Church (GKSI) Logos Entawak Congregation. Data were collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed using validity and reliability tests, normality testing, confidence interval analysis, and linear regression with the assistance of SPSS 25. The findings indicate that the implementation of a servant attitude is at a moderate level. Among the analyzed dimensions, possessing a servant attitude emerges as the most dominant factor influencing the practice of humility, with a correlation coefficient of 0.880 and a contribution of 77.5%. These results affirm that the internalization of Christlike servanthood plays a crucial role in shaping sustainable and authentic Christian ministry.
