Abstract

This study aims to describe the aspects of socio-cultural transformation from old to modern and to explain the process of socio-cultural change in Oman through Sayyidātul Qomar's novel by using a socio-cultural approach and socio-cultural theory by Koentjaningrat. The object of this research is the novel Sayyidātul Qomar by Jukhah Al-ḥāriṡy, which was published by the publisher Dār al-Ādāb in 2010 in Beirut, Lebanon. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative method using data collection techniques in the form of a literature study. The results showed that the aspects of socio-cultural transformation that occurred in Oman in the novel were the religious/belief system, society, education/knowledge, economy, government and technology, and life equipment. The process of socio-cultural transformation from old to modern is divided into two, namely, the driving factors for the transformation and the problems/conflicts in the transformation process. These driving factors include political factors (changes in the power system), economic crises (trade crises), feminism (women's struggles for their rights as women), and open society systems (birth of new generations). These problems/conflicts include the conflict between science and the supernatural, the rebels and the Omani government, the human world and the Jinn, and the enslaver and enslaved person.

Abstract

Linguists and scholars in Iran have overlooked the interaction between language and religion. The correlation between language and religion is substantial among individuals. This study aims to determine whether language serves religion or if there is a distinct category known as religious language. The purpose of this study is to explore further and analyze various perspectives on the relationship between language and religion. We devised a fundamental structure of conversation guidelines based on the works "Religious Language" by Peter Donovan and "Religion and the Making of Society" by Charles Davis. This study examines the argumentation topic through three primary points. The first portion of the text provides a concise overview of the essential information regarding the epistemological and ontological elements of language and religion. A comprehensive analysis of many papers and books has been conducted to extract diverse viewpoints on the interplay between language and religion. The disparities in this region were elucidated by describing both the real and fictitious aspects, as well as the meaningful and meaningless distinctions. The subsequent part explores several tactics employed in theological texts and religious languages and their influence on the dissemination of religious ideology. The primary contention in this part revolves around the capacity of religious language to incite and evoke emotions in individuals. The final section of the paper examines the objectives and intentions of religious declarations and texts by analyzing their discourses using Van Dijk's framework of ideological discourse analysis.

Abstract

There is a growing need for new Muslim identities that reflect global realities. Fethullah Gülen, a notable Turkish-Muslim cleric, is influential and persuasive. Gülen emphasizes spirituality, religious pluralism, discussion, and education to promote peaceful coexistence and integrate faith and reason in Western democracies. This study examines how Gülen's ideas and the global volunteer organization he created promote Muslim-non-Muslim harmony. We use text linguistics' seven principles—cohesion, coherence, intentionality, acceptability, informativity, situation, and intertextuality—to assess Gülen's teachings and movement. In the social sciences, we also use textual language norms as a fresh theoretical and methodological approach to studying social movements and events. This study's focus on movement-text relationships and cognitive processes in information creation, reproduction, and dissemination makes it distinctive. This study investigates these issues in Muslim countries, multicultural cultures, and liberal democracies. This research is useful because it explains the Gülen movement's domestic and worldwide advancements. This article figuratively depicts Fethullah Gülen as the author, his movement as the text, and humanity as the readers.

Abstract

Instances of sexism, a widespread manifestation of gender bias, frequently lead to the belief that one gender is superior or inferior. This is evident through attitudes, behaviors, and institutional procedures that support gender hierarchies and sustain unequal treatment. The entertainment sector, by virtue of its extensive impact, intensifies these biases by molding public attitudes towards women. Through the lens of Glick and Fiske's ambivalent sexism theory, this study investigates the sexism Kim Kardashian encounters on social media sites, namely Instagram, by analyzing both hostile and benevolent sexism. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate the recurring victimization of the Kardashian family based on sexist ideologies. This study uses a qualitative research approach, specifically case study approaches, to investigate the phenomenon of sexism encountered by Kim Kardashian. Investigators will collect data using interviews, questionnaires, live observations, and a comprehensive review of relevant papers, journals, and prior studies. The main objective of this study is to gather data from social media platforms, focusing specifically on evaluating commentary that exhibits sexism, hate speech, patriarchy, misogyny, discrimination, and related subjects on Kim Kardashian's Instagram account. Through the lens of The Ambivalent Sexism Theory, this study reveals that Kim Kardashian evokes both angry and pleasant sexist behavior in Instagram comments.

Abstract

The issue on verbal bullying in online games, particularly in Valorant, raises significant ethical and moral concerns that resonate with broader religious and ethical dilemmas. The study highlights the issue of verbal aggression and cyberbullying, which can lead to emotional distress and harm among players. This mirrors the ethical dilemma of promoting kindness and respect in online interactions, a principle often emphasized in various religious traditions. The anonymity provided by the chat feature in games exacerbates the problem, echoing the concept of accountability and responsibility in religious teachings. The study's recommendation for a multifaceted approach involving increased moderation, player education, and mental health support aligns with the ethical imperative to protect and care for one another, a fundamental principle in many religious and moral frameworks. By addressing these issues, the gaming industry can foster a more inclusive and respectful environment, reflecting the values of compassion and empathy that are central to many religious and ethical traditions.

Abstract

This article explores the role of propaganda in shaping religious narratives through the lens of superhero films. Propaganda's ability to frame narratives and influence how individuals interpret historical events is crucial in determining whether an event or history is perceived as good or bad. By selectively highlighting aspects that serve specific agendas, propaganda integrates its messages into our daily lives almost unnoticed. Various mediums, particularly film, serve as effective tools for disseminating propaganda, with superhero films like "Captain America: The First Avenger" (2011) exemplifying how entertainment intertwines with ideological messages. These films offer heroic narratives that entertain audiences while subtly promoting underlying agendas that reflect nationalistic or religious values. The study emphasizes the need for critical engagement with media beyond entertainment, recognizing that films are not just escapism but convey influential ideologies needing scrutiny. By examining the intersection of propaganda and superhero narratives, this article aims to enhance understanding of how media influences our perceptions of history and religion, encouraging a more critical approach to interpreting these narratives.
