Abstract

Reforestation of protected forests is a vital effort in maintaining environmental sustainability and preventing ecosystem degradation. This study aims to analyze the role of local wisdom in supporting reforestation programs in the North Batukliang Protected Forest area, Central Lombok Regency. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach through field observations, in-depth interviews with traditional leaders, local communities, and relevant agencies, as well as document analysis. The results of the study show that the local community possesses traditional values that support forest conservation, such as the "pemali" system (customary prohibitions), local knowledge of endemic plant species, and the practice of mutual cooperation (gotong royong) in tree planting. The integration of local wisdom has proven to enhance community participation in reforestation activities and strengthen the sense of ownership towards the forest area. Moreover, this local wisdom-based approach also strengthens social relations among residents and creates a model for sustainable forest management. However, challenges remain in the form of economic pressures, land-use changes, and limited technical support from external parties. Therefore, synergy between the government, indigenous communities, and non-governmental organizations is necessary to formulate reforestation policies that acknowledge and maximize the potential of local wisdom. This study recommends the mainstreaming of local wisdom in environmental policy as a long-term forest conservation strategy.

Abstract

Abstract

Sukarara Village is known as one of the centers of pottery craftsmanship, renowned for its high artistic and cultural value. However, most pottery entrepreneurs in the village still rely on conventional marketing methods, which limits their market reach and is less effective in today's digital era. This community service activity aims to assist these entrepreneurs in developing marketing strategies through the introduction and use of social media as a means of promotion and market expansion. The methods used include outreach, hands-on training, and intensive mentoring on platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp Business. The activities also cover the creation of engaging promotional content, social media account management, and a basic understanding of digital market analysis. The results show an increase in participants' understanding and skills in using social media to support product marketing. Several entrepreneurs have begun to independently create and manage their business social media accounts, as well as enhance online interaction with consumers. Another positive impact observed is the growing motivation among entrepreneurs to innovate and adapt to technological developments. This activity proves that social media-based marketing strategies are highly relevant and effective in driving the growth of local MSMEs, particularly in the handicraft sector. Going forward, continued mentoring is expected to ensure sustainability and optimal business development.

Abstract

Beleka Village, located in Central Lombok Regency, is an area with a high vulnerability to flood disasters, particularly around the riverbank buffer zones. This issue is exacerbated by land-use changes and the low public awareness of the importance of maintaining the ecological function of riverbank areas as water infiltration zones. This community service activity aims to educate the public and provide adaptive and sustainable spatial planning recommendations as part of flood control efforts. The approach used is participatory, involving outreach activities, participatory mapping, and focus group discussions (FGDs) with residents, community leaders, and village government officials. The results of the activity show that spatial planning approaches can improve community understanding of the strategic function of riverbanks and encourage the formation of local agreements to protect and rehabilitate these areas as conservation and flood infiltration zones. In addition, a draft spatial utilization plan was produced, based on disaster mitigation principles that integrate local wisdom and ecological aspects. This activity highlights the importance of synergy between scientific approaches and community participation in sustainable spatial management at the village level. It is hoped that this initiative can serve as a replicable model for other villages facing similar challenges, particularly in the context of flood control through spatial planning.

Abstract

The community service program “Grounding Literacy: University Students Teach Village Children Through Stories and Creativity” aims to increase reading interest and basic literacy skills among children in rural areas through a participatory, creativity-based approach. The background of this initiative stems from limited access to reading materials and the low prevalence of literacy habits in village environments. The implementation method includes a needs-assessment phase, the design of learning modules based on local folklore, training for student volunteers, and the execution of interactive learning activities that integrate art, educational games, and simple writing exercises. Evaluation is carried out through direct observation, interviews with participants and parents, as well as measuring improvements in reading interest and reading comprehension before and after the activities. The results show a significant increase in children’s enthusiasm for reading and writing activities, as well as improved understanding of the moral and cultural values contained in local stories. In addition, the program strengthens social ties between university students and rural communities and fosters a sense of social responsibility among students. This program is expected to serve as a model for community-based literacy development that can be replicated in other regions with adjustments to cultural contexts and local needs.

Abstract

Community-based environmental activities that directly involve residents are increasingly important for maintaining ecosystem sustainability, especially in remote or “edge-of-the-nation” areas that often have limited access to large government programs. The title “Green Action at the Nation’s Edge: A River Clean-Up Movement with Local Residents” describes a participatory initiative that engages local communities in cleaning river streams, restoring water quality, and raising ecological awareness in peripheral regions. Through mutual cooperation (gotong royong) and collaboration among residents, this movement aims not only to remove the physical burden of waste from the river but also to shift mindsets so that rivers are viewed as sources of life rather than dumping grounds. A series of activities—such as riverbank sweeping, collecting plastic and organic waste, and community education—are carried out together with various local stakeholders. The results of this movement show positive impacts, including increased citizen participation, the formation of environmentally concerned networks, a cleaner river, and strengthened social cohesion. This study also outlines several challenges, such as limited equipment, resistance to changing long-standing habits, and the need to maintain the movement’s sustainability after the initial action. In conclusion, the community-driven river clean-up movement at the nation’s edge demonstrates that small changes involving active community participation can generate significant ecological and social impacts. Further development should focus on strategies for continuous community engagement, water quality monitoring, and integrating local programs so that the movement becomes part of a broader environmental management system.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to enhance the capacity and competitiveness of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) consisting of local artisans in Sepakek Village through digital marketing training. The development of digital technology offers significant opportunities for MSMEs to expand their markets; however, many business actors in rural areas are still unable to utilize technology optimally. The implementation methods include needs assessment surveys, face-to-face training, practical mentoring, and evaluation of training outcomes. The materials provided cover the creation of digital promotional content, the use of social media for marketing, product photography, and online selling strategies through marketplaces. The training participants consisted of 25 local artisans engaged in bamboo crafts, weaving, and traditional textiles. The results of the activity show a significant increase in participants’ understanding and skills related to digital marketing. A total of 80% of participants successfully created business accounts on social media and independently published their products, while 60% gained new interactions and potential buyers through online platforms. With this training, local artisans are expected to increase their sales turnover, expand market reach, and strengthen the image of local products from Sepakek Village. This program serves as an initial step toward MSME digital independence and the strengthening of the local potential–based economy.

Abstract

The Healthy Together Village Program is a community service initiative focused on increasing families’ understanding of the importance of balanced nutrition and the implementation of clean living habits in daily life. This activity was carried out in Borok Lelet Hamlet, Kotaraja Village, in response to initial findings indicating low community knowledge regarding the selection of nutritious food ingredients, healthy eating patterns, as well as environmental cleanliness and personal hygiene practices. The main goal of this program is to provide practical and easily applicable education for families, thereby encouraging behavioral changes toward a healthier lifestyle. The implementation methods include environmental observation, interactive counseling, demonstrations on selecting food ingredients and simple food processing, as well as handwashing practices and household sanitation. Evaluation was conducted through pre-tests and post-tests to measure the improvement in participants’ knowledge. The results show a significant increase in community understanding, particularly in the application of balanced nutritious menus, the importance of clean water and sanitation, and healthy and hygienic habits within families. Additionally, active community participation indicates that the education provided is relevant to local needs and can be independently implemented. This program is expected to serve as a sustainable model for villages in efforts to improve family health quality and create a cleaner and healthier environment.

Abstract

This community service program was carried out with the aim of fostering students’ motivation to learn in remote schools in Tete Batu Village, where they face limitations in educational facilities, access to information, and low learning motivation due to socioeconomic conditions. The activities focus on an empowerment-based approach through learning assistance, training in creative learning methods, and strengthening the capacity of teachers and the school environment. The methods used include initial observations to map needs, interactive workshops, the provision of teaching materials based on educational games, and motivational sessions involving teachers, parents, and community leaders. The results of the program show an increase in students’ enthusiasm for learning, as reflected in improved activeness, participation, and perseverance in completing tasks. Teachers also reported enhanced skills in applying creative learning methods that better suit the characteristics of students in remote areas. Additionally, parental support for their children's learning increased after they were involved in community discussions. This program emphasizes that collaboration between educators, the community, and education volunteers plays an important role in fostering learning motivation in remote areas. Program sustainability can be achieved through periodic mentoring and the provision of simple learning media that are easy to replicate. Thus, this initiative makes a tangible contribution to efforts to equalize education quality and strengthen students’ motivation to learn in Tete Batu Village.
