Abstract

Materialism is an understanding that states that something invisible (cant be sensed) did not exist. That is, the unseen world (including God, angels, jinn, etc.) does not exist. Because it cant be sensed by humans. So if so, how Islam views the concept? Where in the Islamic religion teaches the unseen world which is summarized in the pillars of faith. Automatic if Muslims agree with the materialism, then it will greatly affect the faith. For this reason, this paper tries to explain the essence of the concept of Materialism, by reviewing the definition and history, which at this time will review the opinions of the philosophers of ancient Greece is also one of the teachings of India, Carvaka. At the end of the analysis will be presented how should a Muslim respond to the concept of this materialism.

Abstract

Paguyuban Sumarah is one well-known aliran kepercayaan in Indonesia existed since the 1930s. The group practised Sujud Sumarah as the most essential ritual attended by the whole member of organizations from multiple religious backgrounds and identities, gathering them in a venue of interreligious ritual participation. This paper will discuss the aspect of interrituality in Sujud Sumarah, considering it is practised by multi-religious believers through the discourse-analysis method following the framework of interrituality offered by Moyaert, an interreligious scholar from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. This research concludes that it is acceptable to define the implementation of Sujud Sumarah as an interreligious ritual participation, yet it could not explicitly be categorized as ‘inner-facing’ or ‘outer-facing’ interrituality as it was classified by Moyaert. This paper also demonstrated, in general, the fundamental system of belief of Sumarah was derived from syncretism and transcendent unity of religions, leading the discussion to be possibly elaborated further in the study of interreligious relations.

Abstract

Jihad to establish a Khilāfah state has again become a viral issue studied and discussed by scholars, academics, politicians and activists. Consequently, there is a tendency to consider the political system as one of the pillars of religion. The tendency to consider the Khilāfah as a legitimate form of government and guarantee the application of sharia law post the Prophet period. This is a trend that has never been known by religion and ijtihad of previous Muslims even almost causing division and destruction in many countries. This article is aimed to analyze the interpretation of verse of  jihad and khilafah in university students’ point of view. It was because that students in universities have an important and strategic role in warding off the dangers of radicalism and intolerance that develop in society. Students are expected to be the important pillar to reduce the development of radicalism. University of Darussalam Gontor (UNIDA Gontor) as a boarding school with the motto of the fountain of wisdom, is expected to be able to overcome radicalism and extremism in terms of khilāfah and jihad. This study used quaitative method to gain the data.This study revealed that UNIDA Gontor students had understood the meaning of khilafah and jihad properly and correctly only some deficiencies such as references.it was not only about tolerant or in accordance with the manhaj ahlu sunnah wal jama'ah and moderate washatiyah mazhab. It stated that the khilāfah is impossible to stand again, and the need for correct references in understanding the khilāfah and jihad.

Abstract

Becoming an Indonesian migrant worker (TKI) is one option in finding work. The offer to become a migrant worker is even more tempting when you see a neighbor who is successful and able to meet the family's needs. This is also the reason and motivation for the majority of TKI from Beji Hamlet, Polorejo, Babadan District, Ponorogo Regency to become TKI. In Beji, you can find houses with modern styles as a symbol of the success of residents who were former migrant workers. This article will describe the influence of religion on the lives of Indonesian migrant workers from Beji. The research was conducted by extracting information from 13 informants, of which 3 informants were residents who had not become migrant workers, while 10 informants were residents who had previously been migrant workers. To present the data, it is done using the descriptive analysis method. The results were found, TKI from Beji has existed since the 80s with the destination country of Saudi Arabia. Currently, the number of their destination countries includes; Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Kuwait. The analysis shows that religion have a big influence on the lives of TKI in Beji Hamlet. The role of religion can be seen in how the TKI from Beji makes a living, educates their children, relates to fellow humans, and is grateful for the benefits they get

Abstract

This paper discusses the concept of wasaṭiyah as one of seminal concept in several verses of al-Qur’an. The research focuses on five verses of al-Qur’an representing words of wasaṭiyah. The words are: wasaṭan (fair and chosen people) in al-Baqarah [2]: 143, fawasaṭna (middle) in al-‘Ādiyāt [100]: 5, awsaṭ (from average food) in al-Maidah [5]: 89, awsaṭuhum (the most moderate of them) in al-Qalam [68]: 28, and al-wusṭa (salah of wusṭa) in al-Baqarah [2]: 238. According to its etymology, there is no strong correlation among these words. However, if it approached further by study tafseer, the correlation of one another will be found. Wasaṭiyah is the seminal concept, which should be existed in every Muslim life. It has its own characteristics, which demonstrate the existence of people who admitted themselves as Muslim. Such as to be justice, to avoid the despot, to be truthful, and the all of these features prove is them as good people. In other hand, these words have similarity in accordance with the terms of definition and terminology. It can be traced from the views of Muslim Scholars such as Abdullah Abdul Muhsin al-Turkiy, Abdullah bin Sulaiman al-Ghafili, and Ali Muhammad al-Salabiy.

Abstract

It was a fatal mistake when terrorism equated with the doctrine of jihad in Islam. Terrorism in Arabic word termed as al-Irhab is not taught in the Qur’an. Even in Surah al-Anfal: 60 wrote the word “turhibûna”, but it can’t be used as the argument that terrorism is taught Islam. The word “turhibûna” here is more to frighten the enemy on the battlefield. By studying the turats and contemporary books, this simple paper triesto explore some of the misunderstandings about jihad. Then, those errors will be corrected by refering to the original opinion of the Muslim scholars, which in this paper refered to Ibn Qayyim al-Jawzi’s opinions. The results of the study showed that this misunderstanding lied on the meaning and concept of jihad. As understood by some people that jihad is a war in the path of Allah (fi sabilillah) only. In fact, the realm of jihadis very wide. Ibn Qayyim explained that jihad consists of 13 levels. These levels can be reduced to four parts, which one of them is fighting the infidels. Jihad against the infidels is not using the weapons. There are several steps that must be passed, so that jihad to infidels can be done. Of this division is also seen that the jihad war is not the onlysolution used by Islam in upholding Allah’s name (kalimatullah). So, this paper is expected to be able to describe the jihad in Islam based on the Qur’an and Prophetic traditions.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the concept of food according to Ellen G White ‎based on the teachings of Seventh-day Adventist Church. The object of this ‎research is all about healthy lifestyles following Old Testament as a reference. ‎Ellen recommends her pupils to consume healthy and nutritious food, as well as ‎prohibits consuming foods that can disturb their condition. In order to achieve an ‎objective mentioned above, this research utlizes a theological-normative approach; ‎with an intention to reveal Ellen’s interpretation for the doctrine of food regarding ‎the authenticity values founded within Old Testament. Accordingly, both descriptive ‎and analysis method are executed to analyze this topic altogether with religious ‎notions and the ideas of nutritionists. This research results a number of ‎conclusions: First, the types of food nutrients are good elements for health of ‎human body in accordance with the Biblical rules are: fruits, grains, vegetables, ‎and any other crops. Second, Ellen also permitted another type of meals besides ‎what has already mentioned above such as bread, cake, egg, milk, cheese, and fruit ‎juice because these dishes sanify and affect good behavior for human. Moreover, ‎those foods are also easily to be obtained among the poors. The types of foods ‎prohibited by White, however, are tea, coffee, meat, tobacco, and alcoholic ‎beverages, for instances. The reason behind it is  that those meals are derived from ‎animal nutrients and  possibly causing illness to the body.Those diseases are: ‎tuberculosis, cancer, and complications toward entire organs of human body. The ‎tea and coffe, in the other hands, affect headache, wakefulness, heart palpitation, ‎indigestion, trembling, and even leads to deviate behavior.

Abstract

Syi’ah sebagai salah satu sekte yang menyimpang dalam Islam memiliki konsep tersendiri mengenai asal tinah (tanah) yang digunakan oleh Allah untuk menciptakan manusia, tinah tersebut dibagi menjadi dua, tinah yang baik dan tinah yang jelek. Penganut Syi’ah diciptakan dari tinah yang baik, sementara selain Syi’ah (orang kafir,termasuk Sunni) diciptakan dari tinah yang jelek. Masalahnya, dalam pandangan Syi’ah Allah telah mencampuri kedua tinah tersebut, sehingga melahirkan penganut Syi’ah yang berbuat maksiat dan orang kafir yang beramal saleh. Seharusnya hanya penganut Syi’ah sajalah yang beramal saleh dan orang kafir yang berbuat maksiat. Pada hari kiamat tinah ini akan dikembalikan kepada asalnya. Artinya tinah Syi’ah yang tercampur dengan tinah orang kafir tadi akan dikembalikan kepada orang Syi’ah. Sehingga seluruh amal saleh yang dikerjakan kafir akan menjadi milik Syi’ah. Sebaliknya, seluruh kemaksiatan yang dilakukan oleh Syi’ah akan diberikan kepada orang kafir. Konsekuensi dari tinah ini menunjukkan adanya spesialisasi terhadap penciptaan Syi’ah. Sehingga mereka menganggap dirinya sebagai manusia pilihan Tuhan. Anggapan ini mirip dengan prinsip bangsa Yahudi. Di samping itu, konsep akidah tinah juga berbau prinsip golongan Jabariah. Adanya penukaran amal saleh dengan maksiat, menyebabkan golongan Syi’ah merasa terbebas dari semua dosa-dosanya. Sehingga hal ini akan membuat penganut Syi’ah bebas melakukan apa saja, karena mereka tidak akan menanggung dosanya. Pemahaman seperti ini cukup berbahaya, terutama bagi kalangan awam Syi’ah.

Abstract

Makalah ini bertujuan untuk menemukan kerangka konsep dari sebuah peradaban dalam pandangan Malik Bennabi. Kajian tentang Malik Bennabi yang berkaitan dengan peranan ilmu dan agama sebagai dasar dari sebuah peradaban belum banyak dilakukan. Padahal Malik Bennabi merupakan seorang sosiolog muslim kontemporer yang sangat fenomal setelah Ibnu Khaldun. Dalam makalah ini metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif analitis, dengan demikian maka penulis mencoba menganalisis corak pemikiran Malik Bennabi yang berkaitan dengan asal-usul munculnya sebuah peradaban, dilihat dari peranan agama dan ilmu di dalamnya.  Dalam kajian singkat ini, dapat dilihat bahwa sebuah peradaban terbentuk dari tiga unsur yaitu manusia, tanah dan waktu, yang mana ketiga unsur tersebut saja tidak mampu membentuk sebuah peradaban tanpa adanya katalisator yang disebut dengan agama. Agama sendiri memiliki hubungan yang sangat erat dengan ilmu. Seperti halnya yang ada dalam peradaban Islam, antara agama dan ilmu merupakan sebuah kesatuan yang tidak bisa dipisahkan antara satu dengan lainnya. Lain halnya dengan peradaban Barat yang ternyata agama di Barat sendiri tidak memiliki hubungan yang harmanonis dengan ilmu. Akan tetapi peradaban Barat bisa terwujud karena adanya sekularisme yaitu pemisahan antara agama dengan Ilmu. Dari dua corak peradaban tersebut, setidaknya masing-masing peradaban memiliki hubungan yang sangat erat dengan agama dan juga ilmu, terlepas dari sebesar apa dan bagaimana agama dan ilmu tersebut  berperan dalam kemajuan peradaban tersebut.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Larung Sesaji di kota jepara merupakan salah satu rentetan acara pesta lomban yang diadakan pada 8 syawwal setiap tahunnya. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui sejarah larung sesaji pada pesta lomban, dan pelaksanaan pesta lomban bserta tujuanya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif. Jepara merupakan kota dengan mayoritas penduduknya adalah nelayan, dengan tradisi tradsi budaya yang telah di tingalkan dahulu kala adalah tradisi larung sesaji pada perta lomban, hal tersebut di awali dengan peristiwa terjebaknya pejabat jepara dengan badai ketika ingin menyebrang ke karimun jawa dengan melarungkan kepala kerbau ke laut yang bertujuan sesembahan kepada yang kuasa, seiring berjalanya waktu tradisi ini berubah tujuan yang semula mengandung unsur usnsur syirik, dan masa sekarang ini tradisi tersebut mempunyai tujuan yang positif.
