Abstract

This article reports on the results of ḥadÄ«th research on the elimination of a person's badness after someone converts to Islam. The narration (riwÄyat) of ḥadÄ«th is found in á¹¢aḥīḥ al-BukhÄrÄ«, KitÄb al-ĪmÄn, BÄb Ḥusn IslÄm al-Mar’. This study uses the takhrÄ«j al-ḥadÄ«th method. The findings of this study reveal that the narration of the ḥadÄ«th is classified mu’allaq (suspended). Without considering the statements or explanations from the commentators of á¹¢aḥīḥ al-BukhÄrÄ«, this study concludes that the narration of the ḥadÄ«th is categorized á¸a’īf (weak), because the sanad (chain of narrators) was munqaá¹i’ (interrupted). However, after searching another sanad, it found other narrations of ḥadÄ«th continued to the Prophet, so that the sanad is muttaá¹£il (connected). In other words, the status of the sanad of ḥadÄ«thin á¹¢aḥīḥ al-BukhÄrÄ« was changed from munqaá¹i’ (broken) to muttaá¹£il (connected) and was judged á¹£aḥīḥ (sound) by the scholars, except Ibn Ḥazm. Because of the soundness, the narrations of ḥadîthare also found in the works of other scholars, such as ḥadîth al-aḥkâmand fiqh.

Abstract

The contestation of prohibition of music that has been happening in the offline world is now reaching the online world. The group that has been emphasizing the prohibition of music in the offline world, and becomes a minority group, precisely in the online world this group dominates. One of the groups that emphasize prohibition of music and dominates in the online world is the Salafi group. This group formed an Islamic study on social media, such as Facebook which was named after the Kajian Islam-Sunnah. This paper aims to examine the forms of contestation about the prohibition of music in the Kajian Islam-Sunnah group and its responds for netizens. By using the theory of contestation and discourse analysis, this study finds that the contestation on prohibition of music that occurs in the Kajian Islam-Sunnah group appears from several types of memes displayed. Each meme contains an argument on the prohibition of music by citing the hadith and muslim scholars. This contestation happens for the differences in understanding between the two parties, the parties agreeing and disagreeing about the prohibition of music. The majority of those who agree are from the Salafi group, while those who disagree are from the non-Salafi group.

Abstract

This article examines the research of Ahmad ‘Ubaydi Hasbillah, which identifies Ahmad Hassan as a prominent figure in textual hadith studies. In his book Nalar Tekstual Ahli Hadis: Akar Formula Kultur Moderat Berbasis Tekstualisme, ‘Ubaydi asserts that Ahmad Hassan belonged to a group known for its strong textualist approach, displaying remarkable diligence in hadith studies. This article uses Ahmad Ubaydi Hasbillah’s research as a framework to explore Ahmad Hassan’s understanding of various hadiths. Specific topics discussed include the hadiths on licking dogs, reciting al-Fatiha in congregational prayers, touching the Qur'an, drawing or cheap images, and the use of sutrah in prayer. As an Indonesian scholar, Hassan was known for his courage in opposing views not grounded in the primary sources of Islamic law—namely, the Qur'an and Hadith. His understanding of these hadiths has occasionally been labeled as radical due to his firm stance. Although Hassan is primarily associated with a textual approach, he also integrated contextual analysis in certain instances.

Abstract

The discourse on hermeneutic in the study of interpreting the sources of Islamic law is still widely discussed by Muslim intellectuals until now. Apart from being used as a method of interpreting the Qur'an, hermeneutic is also used by some Muslim academics to interpret hadis. But in its application, there are still debates between them. Some of them accept the presence of hermeneutic as one of the relevant methods used to understand the hadis, but others reject it. The reason of the receiving party is based on the need for hermeneutic in understanding the hadis, especially to answer contemporary problems that have not yet been resolved in understanding the hadis before. The reason for the refusing party is because this hermeneutic method was born from the West and is used to understand the Bible that has different characteristics from the hadis. This paper tries to examine the hermeneutic study of hadith proportionally by looking at the reasons behind the acceptance and rejection of the hermeneutic method in the interpretation of the hadis. In addition, this paper also elaborates on the issue of hermeneutic application related to the science of balaghah which is the original product of previous Muslim scholars.
