Abstract

The LGBTQ community faces significant barriers in accessing inclusive healthcare services, particularly regarding sexually transmitted infection (STI) prevention. Peer education has emerged as an effective strategy for improving STI awareness and promoting safer health behaviors within this community. This study employs a qualitative case study approach, conducting in-depth semi-structured interviews with LGBTQ individuals in Palu, Indonesia, to assess the impact of peer education on STI prevention. Findings indicate that peer education effectively enhances STI awareness and encourages preventive behaviors by leveraging community trust and shared lived experiences. Participants reported increased knowledge, behavioral shifts toward safer practices, and greater comfort in discussing sexual health issues with peer educators. Despite these benefits, the study identifies structural barriers, including financial constraints, healthcare discrimination, and limited government support, as significant obstacles to program effectiveness. Addressing these challenges requires enhanced policy support, institutionalized LGBTQ-inclusive healthcare training, and expanded funding for community-based interventions. This study contributes to public health research by emphasizing the importance of peer-led education in STI prevention strategies and advocating for multi-sectoral collaboration to ensure sustainable, inclusive healthcare services for LGBTQ individuals.

Abstract

Adolescent alcohol consumption remains a critical public health concern, influenced by peer dynamics, social media exposure, and socioeconomic factors. This study examines the role of these variables in shaping adolescent drinking behaviors and explores the effectiveness of regulatory policies in mitigating alcohol-related risks. A systematic literature review was conducted, analyzing studies from PubMed, Psyc, Scopus, and other academic databases. Findings reveal that peer influence significantly contributes to adolescent alcohol use, while social media platforms act as both a risk factor and a potential tool for intervention. Cross-national comparisons highlight the effectiveness of strict alcohol regulations, such as higher taxation and sales restrictions, in reducing underage drinking rates. Furthermore, socioeconomic disparities impact adolescent exposure to alcohol marketing and accessibility, necessitating targeted policy interventions. The study underscores the urgent need for comprehensive policies addressing both environmental and social determinants of adolescent alcohol use. Strategies should include stricter advertising regulations, digital health interventions, and community-based prevention programs. Future research should focus on longitudinal studies assessing the long-term effects of adolescent alcohol consumption, as well as innovative intervention methods leveraging social media platforms. By addressing these gaps, policymakers and public health professionals can develop more effective strategies to mitigate adolescent drinking behaviors and reduce long-term health risks.

Abstract

Gaming disorder (GD) has become a growing public health issue among children and adolescents, affecting their mental health and academic performance. This systematic review analyzed recent empirical studies from PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar to assess the psychological and educational impacts of GD. Findings indicate that GD is significantly linked to increased levels of anxiety, depression, and impaired emotional regulation. Neurobiological evidence shows that GD alters dopamine activity, reducing impulse control and reinforcing reward seeking behaviors. Academically, children with GD demonstrate lower performance due to diminished concentration and cognitive engagement. Although cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and parental supervision are commonly proposed interventions, their application remains inconsistent across contexts. This review highlights the need for unified diagnostic criteria and the implementation of school based support mechanisms. The study contributes to existing literature by synthesizing neurobiological and psychosocial evidence on GD, offering direction for culturally responsive intervention models and future longitudinal research.

Abstract

Fast food consumption has surged globally, raising critical concerns for public health. This systematic review analyzes the relationship between fast food intake and its metabolic and cardiovascular impacts particularly on obesity, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and hypertension. Evidence from the past two decades shows a consistent link between regular fast food consumption and increased risk of chronic diseases, driven by its high calorie, low nutrient composition and its contribution to inflammation and weight gain. These effects are exacerbated among low income populations and in urban environments. Importantly, this study highlights the influence of food marketing, policy environments, and socioeconomic factors in shaping dietary behaviors. Countries with comprehensive nutrition regulations such as taxation on unhealthy food and advertising restrictions report lower dependence on fast food and improved public health outcomes. Thus, this review emphasizes the urgent need for multi sectoral policy interventions to reduce fast food consumption and its health consequences. The findings contribute to public health discourse by offering evidence based insights for formulating targeted nutritional policies, promoting dietary education, and addressing socioeconomic disparities in access to healthy foods.

Abstract

Healthcare disparities between urban and rural areas pose significant public health challenges, affecting healthcare accessibility, quality, and outcomes. This study systematically reviews the factors contributing to these disparities, including socioeconomic status, geographic barriers, healthcare infrastructure, and workforce distribution. A comprehensive literature search was conducted across major academic databases, focusing on peer-reviewed studies examining urban-rural healthcare inequalities and potential interventions. Findings indicate that rural populations experience limited access to healthcare due to inadequate medical facilities, long travel distances, and a shortage of healthcare professionals. Socioeconomic determinants, such as lower income and education levels, further exacerbate these disparities. Telemedicine has emerged as a potential solution, improving healthcare access in remote areas. However, its effectiveness is hindered by digital literacy gaps, infrastructure limitations, and privacy concerns. Policy interventions, including equitable healthcare funding, rural physician incentive programs, and enhanced digital health literacy initiatives, are crucial to addressing these challenges. Future research should explore scalable solutions for telemedicine implementation, assess the long-term impact of healthcare policy reforms, and develop integrated strategies to enhance healthcare accessibility in underserved communities. Ensuring equitable healthcare access remains a critical goal for global health systems, necessitating collaborative efforts from policymakers, healthcare providers, and technology developers.
