Abstract

Vulva hygiene care during menstruation should change pads regularly, which is 3-4 Background: Vulva hygiene care during menstruation is essential to prevent reproductive tract infections. However, poor hygiene behavior is still often found in adolescents, especially in Islamic boarding schools. This study aims to evaluate the level of vulva hygiene compliance during menstruation at the Ibnu Mas'ud Puteri Islamic Boarding School, South Hulu Sungai Regency. This descriptive study involved 170 students as a total sample. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire (Cronbach's Alpha = 0.85) and analyzed descriptively. Most respondents (91.6%) were moderately compliant, while 8.4% were less compliant. Influencing factors include knowledge, attitudes, and family support. The majority of students are quite obedient in maintaining vulva hygiene during menstruation, but additional education programs are still needed to increase compliance in groups that are less compliant.

Abstract

Stunting is a global issue faced by communities worldwide due to its chronic impact on child health and development. This study aims to analyze the relationship between maternal knowledge, attitude, and age during pregnancy with stunting incidence in families in the Astambul Health Center work area in 2023. A descriptive-analytic study with a cross-sectional design was conducted. Using accidental sampling, 100 respondents were selected from a population of 448 mothers with toddlers. Data were collected via questionnaires and analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods with chi-square tests. Results indicated a significant relationship between maternal knowledge, attitude, and age during pregnancy and stunting incidence (p-value = 0.001). Health workers should provide nutrition education programs to enhance maternal knowledge and prevent stunting.

Abstract

Preoperative anxiety is a common psychological problem experienced by patients and can affect the surgical process and postoperative recovery. This study aims to measure the effect of dhikr and prayer on anxiety levels in preoperative appendicitis patients at Mokopido Tolitoli Hospital. The study used a quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test methods involving 60 patients, which were divided into two groups: the intervention group (30 patients) who received dhikr and prayer, and the control group (30 patients) who did not receive the intervention. The results showed that before the intervention, moderate anxiety levels dominated in the intervention group (50%) and control (54%), followed by severe anxiety of 40% and 36%, respectively. After dhikr and prayer, there was a significant decrease in the level of severe anxiety in the intervention group (40% to 10%) and an increase in the level of mild anxiety (10% to 60%). In contrast, the control group experienced only minor changes, with severe anxiety slightly decreasing from 36% to 30%. The data was analyzed with Chi Square. The results showed that there was a significant difference between the intervention group and the control group after the intervention (p < 0.05).  The results of this study indicate that dhikr and prayer are effective non-pharmacological interventions to reduce anxiety levels in preoperative patients with appendicitis. Therefore, dhikr and prayer can be applied as one of the psychological approaches in preoperative anxiety management.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the major health problems that increases the risk of cardiovascular disease and premature death. This study aims to measure the effect of cucumber juice administration on blood pressure in hypertensive patients in Kongkomos Village. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test approach without a control group, involving 30 respondents who were selected by purposive sampling. Respondents were given 200 ml of cucumber juice every morning for seven days, and blood pressure was measured before and after the intervention. The results of the study showed a statistically significant and clinically significant decrease in blood pressure. The mean systolic blood pressure decreased from 150 mmHg to 135 mmHg, and diastolic blood pressure decreased from 95 mmHg to 85 mmHg, with a value of p = 0.000 (p < 0.05). Reductions of 15 mmHg (systolic) and 10 mmHg (diastolic) are clinically relevant as they reduce the risk of cardiovascular complications such as stroke and heart attack by 20–30%, based on current hypertension management guidelines. Most respondents also reported additional benefits, such as feeling fresher and increased frequency of urination, which indicated the natural diuretic effects of cucumbers, in the absence of serious side effects. This study shows that cucumber juice is effective as a safe, inexpensive, and easy-to-implement non-pharmacological intervention in hypertension management, especially at the community level.

Abstract

Tuberculosis is an infectious disease that can cause serious complications if not treated properly. Patients' knowledge of the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis is still low, which often leads to non-adherence to treatment. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of pulmonary tuberculosis treatment education in increasing patient knowledge. The research used a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest method. Education was provided to 23 TB patients in the working area of the Galang Health Center, Tolitoli Regency. Education was provided for 3 consecutive days with interactive lecture methods and discussions using audiovisual media. The assessment was carried out before and after the education using a questionnaire sheet containing 10 question items about tuberculosis treatment that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis using the wilcoxon test. The results showed that the respondents' knowledge before the intervention was 43.5% and after education increased to 95.7 in the good category and there was a significant increase in the patient's knowledge after being given education (p value = 0.001). This study recommends the implementation of ongoing education programs to support the success of TB treatment. The results of this study also provide long-term implications, namely helping to improve patient treatment compliance, prevent drug resistance, and reduce the burden of tuberculosis disease in the community.
