Abstract

Breadfruit plants (Artocarpus communis Forst) had significant importance in supporting the needs of the food source because it can support crop diversification efforts that serve as the non-rice food reserves. In connection with this, to rehabilitate in an area where rainfall is done with a bit of fertilizer that can hold water so it is more resistant to drought situation and breadfruit which incidentally is a plant that is able to live in dry conditions so it will be obtained an effective condition for application of fertilizers in the rehabilitation of degraded land, especially in drought conditions. This study aims to determine the ability of manure in retaining water and nutrient supply to the breadfruit plants. Manure with different doses will affect the binding of water and growing resistance breadfruit seeds.  This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) non factorial consisting of one treatment with four replicates with different doses of fertilizer. If ANOVA table is significant then proceed with further tests based on real distance test DMRT (Duncan's Multiple Range Test). Provision of multiple doses of chicken manure on breadfruit seeds significantly affected as height but did not significantly affect the increase in diameter. The highest breadfruit seeds survival skills at P8, while the lowest is in P0.Keyword : Artocarpus communis. Forst, Manure, Degraded Land

Abstract

Mangrove is a forest that it is affected by tides. Indonesia is one of countries that has the largest mangrove forest in the world. Nowdays, the area has been reduced due to the degradation of mangrove forests. This degradation can be addressed with rehabilitation. This study used the fungi of A. flavus, A. tereus and T. harzianum against R. apicuta seedlings which is one of the species used for the rehabilitation of mangrove forests. The research was conducted on August 2014 untill January 2015 using a completely randomized design (CRD) with A. flavus, A. tereus and T. harzianum treatments and with five replications. Results showed that treatment of T. harzianum provided seedlings, the best growth of R. apiculata where the average height of 16.06 cm, diameter of 0.676 cm, a leaf area of 259.68 cm2, and a total of 19 g dry weight compared to the control with average height of 10.06 cm, 0,619 cm of  diameter, leaf area of 146.64 cm2, and the total dry weight of 10.92 g.Key word: fungi, mangrove, Rhizophora apiculata, seedling

Abstract

Daun Sang is an endemic species that can be found in Gunung Leuser National Park and Bukit Tiga Puluh National Park. This palm is thought to have associations with other palm. Where around Daun Sang grow there are palm types Lipai (Licuala spinosa), but not always around Lipai grow Daun Sang are. Daun Sang need shade to grow because these palm is sensitive to the sunlight. This study  aimed to analyze the association  of daun sang by some kind of palm that grows around in order to conservation and optimize the cultivation of the daun sang. The method used is a descriptive method with observation of the Daun Sang number and some kind of of palms around it done intentionally (purposive sampling). The method is performed by making 2 plot observations, each size is 100m × 100m,  then divided by making the sample plots of 20m × 20m. Observed data were processed using 2 x 2 contingency table, and then calculated by the chi-square test formulations and Jaccard index to calculate the extent of the association. three species of palm found in the study site there are pinanga speciosa, tetradactylus and Plectomiopsis Calamus sp. The results showed that daun sang are not associated with Pinanga speciosa. Association occurs between daun sang with the Calamus tetradactylus and daun sang with Plectomiopsis sp. The highest level of association occurs in Daun Sang and Calamus tetradactylus with maximum association index value of 1. The level of association between Daun Sang with Plectomiopsis sp. approaching the maximum value of the association index in 0.84.Key word : Daun Sang (Johannesteijsmania altifrons), Association Analysis, Ressort Sei Betung

Abstract

Volcanic dust expelled while eruption have a sour potential of hydrogen and the result led to a decrease in the diversity various and microorganism population. The fungi are important instrument in the process of decomposition of organic material for all types of soil. The fungi selulolitic have the ability to hydrolyze the cellulose naturally through it’s cellulose activity. This research aims to study the presence of selulolitic fungi contained on land under forest stands are former eruption of Sinabung Mountain in Karo District. Soil sampling was done with diagonally composite. Soil samples exposed to the eruption consisted of two samples that volcanic dust with a depth of 0-5 cm and mixed with volcanic dust soil to a depth of 5-20 cm, while for the control of soil samples consisted of a sample of the soil to a depth of 0-20 cm. The isolation of fungi and identification were done in the laboratory of Soil Biology, Agroecotechnology, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sumatera Utara. This research was carried out from March 2015 until May 2015. The results showed that there were 4 types of selulolitic fungi found in soil samples affected by volcanic dust and are not affected by volcanic dust, namely Aspergillus, Penicillium, Rhizopus, and Trichoderma. Keywords : volcanic dust, former eruption land, cellulose, selulolitic fungi
