Abstract

This study aimed to determine the type of tree vegetation, carbon stocks, and its economic vale in experimental forest of Pondok Buluh, Simalungun District, North Sumatra.  It was conducted from April to May 2014. The collection of data used path method, and the sampling technique used Purpose sampling with random start method. The plot size by 20 m × 100 m consist of 10 plots categorized as large plot in observation of trees with diameter > 30 cms and there was small plot within by 5 m × 40 m to observe the tree with diameter 5 cms to     < 30 cms. The collection of data performed by non-destructive method with biomass data analysis using allometric models with a carbon content 0f 46% of biomass. The results of study shown that 49 species of trees derived from 25 families. Carbon content stored on observation plots 173,40 tons/ha, and estimation of total carbon stocks 190.737,70 tons. The economic value carbon stock above ground biomass of standing tree in Education Forest of Pondok Buluh around IDR 33.474.466.350,00 to IDR 44.632.621.800,00.

Abstract

Water is an important element in human life. Water is used for various purposes including for drinking, domestic using, and all human activities. The purpose of research was to analyze the economic value of Aek Arnga spring and the factors that affect the value of the willingness to pay (WTP) for the payment of environmental services community. The method was used in this research was Contingent Valuation Method (CVM). CVM  was a method of survey techniques that asked residents about the value or price of the commodity they accepted to pay that didn’t have market’s value as environmental goods. The factors that effected respondent’s willingness to pay  for environmental services in this research was the average household income, the amount of water users, and the amount of water need. WTP’s  value obtained from this research was the value that would be given by the respondents for the environmental services that was producted by Aek Arnga spring per liter per household. The average WTP values of respondents was Rp. 109.65/Hh/day while the total value of WTP was  Rp. 14,692.83 /day. The value of environmental services of  Aek Arnga spring by community was around 9,454,715.45 liters/year. While the potential value of Aek Arnga spring was Rp. 1,036,709,549.09 /year that could be done to restore ecology of the forest area of 9.40 ha.Keywords:   Aek Arnga spring, environmental services, willingness to pay, the value of water services

Therefore, this study aimed to determine the feasibility of durian cultivation in Lau Bagot Village, Subdistrict of Tigalingga, District of Dairi. The analytical method used is descriptive analysis and economic feasibility analysis with multiple criteria: Net Present Value (NPV), Benefit Cost Ratio (BCR), and Internal Rate of Returns (IRR) and payback period (PBP).   The results showed that the pattern of durian cultivation in this village is done with traditional way and the uneven distribution of trees with density 46 trees/ha. Retrieved NPV Rp 52.981.031/Ha , BCR 2,34 , 24,22 % IRR and PBP 11 years with the prevailing interest rate is 12%. Based on the obtained value of durian cultivation in this village deserves to be developed. Factors that lead to decreased production of durian in Lau Bagot Village is the public perception of the high price of wood has to offer to the public about Rp 500.000/m3, pests and diseases, limited land, and natural disaster, thus preferring to cut down on the selling of fruit. Keywords : durian cultivation, economic feasibility, Desa Lau Bargot

Abstract

The population of Sumatran Orangutan (Pongo abelii) decreases due to forest conversion. In addition, the availability of feed orangutans also declining so much potential extinction of the Sumatran orangutan if this trend continues. This study aims to determine the productivity of the tree of the Sumatran orangutan (Pongo abelii) and ecological niche in the area of Sumatran Orangutan Observation Center (PPOS), Bukit Lawang. This study was conducted for 3 months observations performed every week. The result showed that the productivity of the tree of sumatran orangutan lowest for the urinary tree (Quercuss sumatrana) while the highest species productivity found in the forest of mango trees (Mangifera indica). Animal species found in the hills of mace, among others, sumatran orangutan, long-tailed monkeys, kedih, turtles, squirrels and hornbills.

Abstract

The research was conducted in March – August 2014 in Bulu Mario, Aek Nabara and Huraba Villages. Research method used line transect and purposive sampling. This research aims to identification and mapping of the tree and nest of Sumatran Orangutan (Pongo abelii) in Dolok Sibual-buali Nature Reserve buffer zone (Bulu Mario, Aek Nabara and Huraba villages). The results showed that the most trees were used as the nest of Sumatran Orangutan (Pongo abelii) were  Syzygium sp. (Hau Dolok) and Quercus gemelliflora Blume (Hoteng) trees. The trees have the meeting branch, a series of many leaves and twigs, the trees weren’t Sumatran Orangutan’s feed with hight 11-15 m, diameter 20-30 m, branch pattern was adjacent, type of canopy was irregular shape and spherical, and nest high 11-15 m. The position of the nest is most commonly found nesting in position I (near by the main branch) and nest type is C (the nests are made of Orangutan still looks intact, but most of the leaves have started to wilt and there are small holes in the nests). The distribution of the nest and trees of Sumatran Orangutan (Pongo abelii) had clumped spasial patterns of distribution, with a dispersion index of 1.25, was on flat-very steep slope, altitude 401-1400 meters above sea level and had NDVI values 0.15-0.61, mixed plantation and secondary forests in the villages around of Dolok Sibual-buali Natural Reserve, exactly in Bulu Mario, Aek Nabara and Huraba villages. Keywords : Pongo abelii, Syzygium sp., Quercus gemelliflora Blume, Identification and Mapping of the Tree and Nest of Sumatran Orangutan
