Abstract

Indonesia is a country which has the biggest wealth of orchid in the world. Indonesia has about 6.000 types of orchid in the world. In approximately 26.000 types of orchid, about 90% of the dendrobium stem species which are developed in the world are from Indonesia. This study aims to inventory the species of orchid which were found inthe Forest Education TAHURA Bukit Barisan Tongkoh Karo. Determination of the observation locationswhich were conducted by using purposive sampling method. The data which were collected in this study were: the types of orchid, elevation, position point, soil pH, temperature and humidity, and then the identification and analysis of vegetation types.  The results of this study indicated that orchids which were found in the Forest Education TAHURA Bukit Barisan Tongkoh Karo were 13 species of terrestrial orchids which consists of 8 genus. The highest INP value was 35.613 % on the type of Calanthe sp. and the lowest was 4.772 % on the type of Liparis sp. Diversity index H ' was 2.0. Abstract

The activities of people caused the high rate of mangrove degradation in Percut Sei Tuan District Deli Serdang Regency. The activities were found such as marine aquaculture in ponds, new settlements, or the oil palm plantations. It will disturb the mangrove ecosystems and coastal ecosystems that are essential for the existence of migratory birds as well as wildlife habitat in water as spawning ground, nursery ground, and feeding ground areas. It also functions as a barrier for abrasion and seawater intrusion. This study seeked to analyze the extent of degradation in mangrove forests in Percut Sei Tuan District. There were two methods as well as direct and indirect. Direct analysis was intended to see degradation level of mangrove forest based on analysis in the field and then analyzed again the degradation rate, which refered to the Decree of the Minister of Environment of Indonesia, Number 201/2004 on the Criteria and Guidelines for Determining Damage of Mangrove Forests. The indirect method was to perform the analysis of degradation level of mangrove forests based on NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) using Landsat 8 satellite image. This research was expected to give figures of the current mangrove forest in Percut Sei Tuan District and the degradation level. The results showed that mangrove forest in Percut Sei Tuan District in damage category with 4.161% of crown closure and there was 168.7 ha in damage category based on NDVI value. Keywords : mangrove degradation level, NDVI, standard criteria, Percut Sei Tuan

Sibayak II forest area is  one of  Taman Hutan Raya Bukit Barisan conservation area which strategic located and surrounded by lot of tourism potency, natural resources potency and  hydrological function. This study aimed to mapping the distribution of natural resources potency and type of land using. This study was conducted in April until June 2013 using interview guide and ground exploration method with Geographic Information System application and Global Positioning System. The Result of this study showed that Sibayak II forest area has many natural resources potency such as flora, fauna, bamboo and water resources which distributed almost all of the edge of the forest area. The most dominant of flora is bamboo, Altingia excelsa, Schima wallichi and pine because Sibyak II is on the edge of mountain area. The type of land using at Sibayak II forest area based on local community data and ground check were bamboo cultivations, farming land and forest exploitation area. Keywords : Taman Hutan Raya Bukit Barisan, Sibayak II reserve forest, GIS

Abstract

Nepenthes is one of the few carnivorous plants which popular as ornamental plant. Sumatran has the richest Nepenthes flora after Borneo, with 29 species. This research was done in Dolok Sibual Buali Nature Reserve at May until June 2013. The purpose of this research is to identify the types of Nepenthes and to know the dominance type of Nepenthes in Dolok Sibual Buali Nature Reserve. Research location determined by using cluster method at three different location, there is 1200 m a.s.l., 1400 m a.s.l., and 1500 m a.s.l. Area size of observation was 0.6 Ha with 15 plots. The result of this research showed that 6 species Nepenthes founded in this area, the species are N. bongso, N. ovata, N. reinwardtiana, N. rhombicaulis, N. sumatrana, and N. tobaica. N. reinwardtiana was the largest species that discover with 152 clumps/0.6 Ha (32.55%) and the lowest species was N. sumatrana with 22 clumps/0.6 Ha (4.71%). The highest index diversity of the Nepenthes spp. was discovered in location III (1500 m a.s.l.) with 1.59.Keywords : Dolok Sibual Buali Nature Reserve, Kebun Bonsai, Biodiversity, Nepenthes

Abstract

Global warming is the main enviromental problems of this millennium. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is the main cause for global warming. Green open space such as urban park play a role in mitigating global warming in urban area   because the vegetation that is capable to absorb CO2 from the atmosphere through photosynthesis. This study aimed to calculate the carbon stock in all types of vegetation in Urban Park Ahmad Yani. The research was conducted since January until May 2013. The research was conducted at Ahmad Yani Urban Park. The introduction of plants species  and measurements had taken by census method and the method of carbon stock data counting was using non destructive sampling, namely the allometric model. The results showed that the value of carbon stock in Urban Park Ahmad Yani is 61,48555 ton/ha.Key words: urban park Ahmad Yani, carbon stock, above ground biomass
