Abstract

Palm Oil Plant a CO2 absorber as well as other crops such as forest plants. Langkat District is one of the areas that have a high oil commodity. Research on AGB estimates carbon stocks in standing palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq) in Langkat conducted in July through September 2012. This study uses Allometric that calculate carbon stocks in standing palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) Associated with the value of Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI).Largest carbon stocks contained in the 14-year-old stands of oil reserves by 68.84 tonnes carbon / ha and the smallest carbon stocks contained in the 3-year old palm stands by the number of carbon reserves 19.20 tonnes / ha. Vegetation index can be calculated by the model equation Y = 38.39 + 26.24 x NDVI on Landsat imagery. NDVI has a positive relationship with the value of the field in which the R ² of the resulting equation is equal to 49% of the stands of palm oil (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.). Keywords: Carbon stock estimate, Above Ground Biomass, Palm Stands, Elaeis guineensis Jacq.

Abstract

Forest act as a habitat which is one of the main elemen in orangutan lives. Increasing rate of forest degradation in recent years considerable influence on the orangutan population growth, its looks from the orangutan population decline significantly in recent years. Therefore, it is necessary to the preservation of orangutans through habitat management, and ecological and quantitative aspect of orangutan become interest of this study. The methodology which used in this research are the direct observation of daily activities orangutan’s and vegetation analysis in the forest spots that have been passed by the orangutan. The result of this research shows that orangutan average active starting at 07.33 WIB and start to make a nest for sleep approximately at 18.15 WIB with an average length of daily activity orangutan approximately 10 hours 42 minutes. Daily activity averange of orangutan for proportion duration are 15,03% for feeding, 36,59% for moving, 44,82 % for resting, and 3,56% for nesting and for frequencies are 24,09% for feeding, 32,95% for moving, 37,76% for resting, and 5,2%% for nesting. The composition of forest vegetation consists of 24 species of trees, 15 species of poles, and 20 species of saplings which identified overall approximately 88,53% of food plants. PPOS forest area has an index of species diversity (Sannon Wiener index) 2.717 species of trees, 2,235 species of poles, and 2,554 species of saplings. Abstract

Sibolangit Recreational Park is an areal that has many tourism potency so that suitable as an ecotourism destination, in spite of actually this location is rarely visited of tourist. The purpose of this research is to estimate tourism potency which there are over there and to find the strategy could be done related to its development. The estimation of ecotourism in this place used guidance of ADO-ODTWA by Dirjen PHKA 2003 that had been modified. Development strategy was got by identification of strength, weakness, opportunity, and threatment at ecotourism area and then analyzed by using SWOT matriks. Result of this research showed that Sibolangit Recreational Park has ecotourism potency proper to develop with properness 69,23 % and present in the first quadran SWOT analyze. It  means that Sibolangit Recreational Park exist in favorable condition because of having internal strength and external opportunity. Abstract

This research try to find out the ecotourism potential of Sosor Dolok Village toward the ecotourism development in Sosor Dolok Village. This research involves stakeholders such as residents of Sosor Dolok Village, the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Forest, and the Department of Tourism. The ecotourism potential identified by using the method of observation, discussion and interviews with stakeholders, and analyzed according to the scoring criteria in the analysis orientation of objects operating area and nature tourism attraction, Directorate General of Forest Protection and Nature Conservation 2003. The results of research showed that the natures potential are rice fields, coffee plantations, Sampuran Efrata Waterfall, mountain forests, and the Tower of Tele View. The ecotourism potential in that village are hiking, camping, and photo-hunting. Keywords: ecotourism, potential analysis, Sosor Dolok Village

Abstract

Educational Forest of USU has many interesting objects, unfortunately it has not had development activity yet that can support Educational Forest of USU as a ecotourism destination. Therefore, a research about potential evaluation of ecotourism had been conducted at track of Educational Forest of USU in July – August 2012. This research aimed to evaluate the potential use of track of Educational Forest of USU for ecotourism activities. The research was conducted by using force field analysis method to decide supporting factors and obstacle factors that influenced at Educational Forest of USU. Usu has many ecotourism potencies such as the beauty of nature, flora and fauna. Educational Forest of USU has excellent potential to be developed as a tourist area and needs a great strategy from the administrator to be an interesting ecotourism region. Abstract

Danau Linting is one of hotspring lake in North Sumatera that has potential to be developed as ecotourism, although there is no serious management from local government. Data was collected through questionnaires, observation and literature study. These data  were analyzed with descriptive analysis, scoring analysis, and supply and demand analysis so that arranged strategy of ecotourism development.  Supply and demand aspects were scored by tourist such as tourist attraction, amenity and accessibility. Visitor’s assesment of supply aspect was categorized as worst to middle, while demand aspect was categorized as middle to important, that means most of visitors assumed that this region was important and useful so that we need better management. Key words: Danau Linting, Ecotourism potency, analysis of supply and demand

Abstract

Climate change is a direct impact of global warming. An effort to reduce the rate of global warming is to estimate the potential of carbon stored. To find out how potential carbon stored, the estimate approaches of the count can use remote sensing data and measurements in the field (ground check). The study aimed to calculate carbon stocks above ground biomass in natural forest stands in Langkat and mapped the distribution of carbon by using NDVI method. Non destructive method and landscape scale Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) method were used in this study. The result showed that the amount of carbon content in above ground biomass in natural forest stands in Bukit Lawang Resort, Tangkahan Resort and Pamah Simelir classified as good, respectively by 213,72 ton/ha, 214,47 ton/ha and 205,99 ton/ha. From the regression equation y = 168,79 + 69,50 * NDVI obtained R2 value of 53% which showed good correlation between the value in the field of carbon calculations with NDVI values. Key words: carbon stock estimate, Above Ground Biomass, natural forest stand.

Abstract

Agroforestry system is estimate to have a high potential for carbon sequestration in the atmosphere. Agroforestry systems contributed to reducing the increase in atmospheric CO2 and other green house gases by increasing carbon in the soil and reduce the pressure for forest clearing where the carbon comes from CO2 is taken up by plants and stored in the form of biomass. This study aimed to quantify the carbon content. Calculation of carbon stocks was done with non-destructive by using allometric method. The results indicated that the types of vegetation in agroforestry in Langkat was are sengon, mindi, sungkai, coklat, mangga, mahoni, nangka, durian, karet, kemiri,  jati, jengkol, petai, and duku. The amount of carbon stocks in agroforestry stands in Sei Bingai sub-district, Bahorok sub-district, and Wampu sub-district was 58,438 ton/ha, 63,005 ton/ha, and 56,76 ton/ha. Differences in carbon content acquisition was influenced by vegetation density, diversity of size, and distribution of vegetation density. Keywords: Agroforestry, Carbon Stock, Above Ground Biomass
