Abstract

Background Study: Marriage is widely regarded as a foundational social institution that sustains moral order, regulates social relations, and preserves cultural continuity across civilizations and major religious traditions. Islam, Catholicism, and Protestant Christianity each conceptualize marriage as a sacred and morally binding union, yet they articulate its purposes, ethical boundaries, and legal implications in distinct ways. Methods: This study employs a qualitative library-based method, drawing on primary religious texts—the Qur’an, the Bible, and Catholic magisterial documents—alongside scholarly literature on religious ethics and family law. Through systematic textual comparison, the study identifies core ethical principles and examines their similarities and divergences across the three traditions. Key findings: reveal that Islam, Catholicism, and Protestant Christianity share several universal ethical values—commitment, fidelity, responsibility, and justice—while differing in doctrinal interpretations of marital permanence, divorce, gender roles, and reproductive ethics. Catholicism affirms the indissolubility of marriage as a sacrament; Islam upholds marriage as a sacred contract yet permits divorce under regulated conditions; and Protestant Christianity adopts a covenantal framework that allows pastoral flexibility, including divorce in exceptional cases. Contributes: to interreligious ethical discourse by highlighting convergent moral principles that can support dialogue in plural societies, particularly in contexts where interfaith marriage remains contested. Conclusion: the research underscores that despite doctrinal differences, the three religions maintain shared ethical foundations that can strengthen social harmony and enrich contemporary discussions on family ethics and interreligious understanding.

Abstract

Background Study: This study is grounded in the increasing moral challenges faced by young people in the era of Artificial Intelligence (AI), where technological advancement and rapid information flow significantly influence behaviors, mindset, and character development. Religious education is considered a fundamental pillar for shaping morality, strengthening ethical awareness, and embedding spiritual values essential for navigating social change. However, its effectiveness in character formation depends greatly on community perceptions and support. This research aims to analyze the role of religious education in the character development of young people amid AI-driven societal transformation, using a field-based study in Randugunting, Bantarbolang Village. Methods: A qualitative method was employed through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation, with data analyzed using the Miles & Huberman model—data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. Key Findings: The community generally holds a positive perception of religious education as a source of moral guidance for adolescents, although challenges remain, including economic limitations and low parental educational background. Contributes: empirically to the discourse on religious education in the digital era and offers strategic recommendations for strengthening character education rooted in religious values. Conclusion: affirms that religious education remains relevant and impactful in shaping youth character when supported collaboratively by families, communities, and educational institutions.

Abstract

Background: The concept of tajdid (Islamic renewal) is central to modern reform discourse, yet many approaches remain partial, either focusing solely on doctrinal purification or on sociocultural adaptation. Hasan al-Banna proposed an integrative model of tajdid that bridges this tension; however, systematic academic studies examining his conceptual framework remain limited. Methods: This study employs a qualitative approach using critical literature review of al-Banna’s primary works and relevant secondary sources, followed by thematic analysis to identify the principles, dimensions, and strategies of tajdid that he articulated. Key Findings: The findings reveal that al-Banna’s tajdid is integrative, comprehensive, and gradual (syāmil and tadarruj). It encompasses not only spiritual aspects but also social, educational, political, economic, and cultural domains. His model preserves the authenticity of Islamic teachings while remaining responsive to modern realities, thus avoiding both rigid scripturalism and excessive liberalization. Contribution: This study positions al-Banna as the architect of a balanced tajdid paradigm that harmonizes text and context, and it offers a conceptual framework applicable to designing reform strategies across various spheres of Muslim life. Conclusion: Hasan al-Banna’s tajdid model provides a relevant and contextual methodological foundation for the development of contemporary Islamic civilization. Nevertheless, further research is needed to examine the implementation and limitations of this model within more complex modern socio-political contexts.

Abstract

Background: This study examines the Qur’anic concept of spiritual tranquility (as-sakīnah and an-nafs al-muṭma’innah) through an integrative approach that combines classical and modern exegesis with contemporary psychological theory. In the modern context of rising psychological distress, the Qur’anic paradigm of inner peace offers a holistic framework that unites theological, emotional, and cognitive dimensions. Methods: Using a qualitative hermeneutic and comparative approach, this research analyzes interpretations from classical scholars such as Ibn Kathir alongside modern exegetes including Quraish Shihab and Sayyid Qutb. The analysis also incorporates interdisciplinary insights from psychology and neuroscience to elucidate the relevance of spiritual practices in emotional regulation. Key Findings: The study reveals a paradigmatic shift from a purely theocentric understanding of tranquility to a psychospiritual model emphasizing self-regulation, faith internalization, and emotional balance. Empirical evidence, such as Rahmatullah and Syafii (2025), demonstrates that spiritual activities like dhikr enhance dopamine levels and reduce cortisol, supporting the link between spirituality and neuropsychological well-being. Contribution: The research formulates a spiritual–psychological peace model that bridges Qur’anic interpretation with modern psychological frameworks, offering theoretical and therapeutic implications for Islamic-based psychotherapy. Conclusion: Spiritual tranquility in the Qur’anic perspective is not a passive state but an active psychological process that harmonizes faith, cognition, and emotion, providing a valuable foundation for contemporary mental health discourse.

Abstract

Research Background:  his study examines the implementation of visionary leadership in Indonesian elementary schools, a context where educational quality remains uneven despite a high national enrollment rate. Although visionary leadership is recognized as a transformative approach capable of driving long-term school improvement, its application at the elementary level—particularly in resource-limited environments—has not been sufficiently explored. Methods: Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and documentation analysis involving principals, teachers, and staff in a public elementary school known for successfully applying visionary leadership. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model to identify thematic patterns and contextual dynamics. Key Findings: Visionary leadership strengthens school culture, enhances teacher professionalism, improves learning quality, and encourages collective ownership of the school’s direction. However, challenges persist, including resistance to change, limited managerial literacy, inadequate facilities, and inconsistent stakeholder support. Contribution: The literature by highlighting the specific conditions, strategies, and adaptations required for visionary leadership to function effectively at the elementary level—an area previously underrepresented in research. It also provides a contextualized understanding of how visionary leadership can be realistically enacted amid socio-cultural constraints and resource limitations. Conclusion: The success of visionary leadership depends on sustained communication, collaborative vision-building, capacity development, and systematic support from educational authorities. Strengthening practical, context-based leadership training and stakeholder involvement is essential to improving the quality of elementary education
