Abstract

As Muslims who observe fasting almost every year, of course this cannot be seprated from the determination of the start of Ramadan and Shawwal. In this case, there are also differences in determination, especially since in Indonesia itself there are several different schools. Determining the start of Ramadhan and Shawwal need to be made base on rukyat al-hilal. Currently, an path to a witness is the main basis for accepting testimony of seeing the new moon. However, in practice there is almost never any clarification regarding the conditions for fulfilling the crescent moon testimony, because it turns out that in practice in tne field, there are still many who cannot identify with certainty whether they are seeing a crescent moon or another object. Science and technology have developed so rapidly. Scientific evidence is verry necessary to guarantee the certainty of the shahadah which is used as a guideline for the itsbat at the beginning of the months of ramadan and shawwal. Then in this study, it was concluded that science and technology, especially in the fields of optics and digital imaging, were proven to be able to help increase objectivity in rukyat al-hilal testimony.

Abstract

Background: This research focuses on the integration of science and religion as two domains of knowledge that are often seen as contradictory but actually complementary. The formulation of the problem raised is how these two disciplines can collaborate to answer contemporary global challenges, such as environmental crises, technological developments, and character building of the younger generation. The method: used is a systematic literature study with an interdisciplinary perspective, including philosophical, theological, and scientific analysis. Main Findings. First, efforts to integrate science and religion offer a solid ethical foundation in scientific research, especially in the realm of bioethics and technological ethics. Second, Generation Z, which grew up in the digital era, needs a synergy between technological mastery and spiritual values to form a civilized and responsible character. Contributively, this research adds a practical dimension to the literature that previously focused more on philosophical or theological aspects alone. In conclusion, the integration of science and religion not only bridges the epistemological gap, but also provides a holistic framework for sustainable solutions to global problems. Recommendations include the implementation of interdisciplinary curricula, cross-field dialog, and research ethics training so that religious values and scientific findings can interact productively in modern society

Abstract

This study focuses on the role of ontological and historical approaches in harmonizing science and religion as a paradigm for integrative knowledge development in Islamic higher education. The research problem centers on how concepts of ontology and history can construct a holistic educational framework that integrates science and religion, as well as the challenges encountered in achieving this integration. The study employs a qualitative approach, utilizing document analysis and literature review methods, encompassing various scholarly sources related to ontological concepts, the historical development of knowledge, and integration models in Islamic education. The main findings reveal that the ontological and historical approaches can enrich integrative knowledge by providing a robust philosophical foundation for uniting scientific and religious values within Islamic educational frameworks. The study’s contribution lies in developing a more profound concept of integration, which not only unites science and religion at a practical level but also offers a philosophical foundation for their interaction within the curriculum. The conclusion emphasizes that the ontological and historical approaches are essential for creating a holistic Islamic educational paradigm, though further empirical research is needed to assess its effectiveness in educational settings to strengthen the implementation of integrative knowledge.
