Abstract

Potato is horticulture crops that able to consume its corm and used as food materials until a raw material toindustry in Indonesia . However, potato production capacity is not proportional to the increase in demand forpotatoes this time, one of this problem due to lack of availability of quality seed. In vitro tecniques is oneway that can be taken by using nodes as seed. Sucrose and cytokinin have an important part on it wheresucrose acts as a carbon source and energy while cytokinin is important in cell division to support a nodesgrowth. The research aimed to get a suitable concentration of sucrose and 2-isopenteniladenine (2-ip) forgrowth of number of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) nodes by using in vitro methode. The research wascarried out in the Tissue Culture Laboratory, agriculture’s Faculty of North Sumatera University from Juneto September 2013. This research used Randomized Block design with two factors. First factor was sucroseconcentration consist of four level: 35 g/l; 50 g/l; 65 g/l; 80 g/l. The second factor was 2-ip concentrationconsist of five level are 0 mg/l; 2 mg/l; 4 mg/l; 6 mg/l; 8 mg/l. The results showed that sucrose gavesignifiantly effect to number of nodes after darkness period parameter. 2-ip concentration give significantlyeffect only on number of nodes after lighting period. Abstract

P availability in soil is often be the limiting factor on plant growth and production. Phosphatesolubilizing organism is one of alternative to solve this problem. The aim of this study was todetermine the effect of phosphate solubilizing fungi and mycorrhizae and their interaction toincrease P availability and P absorption by Maize on Alkaline Soil . This research was conducted inthe green house, Soil Biology laboratory and Chemical and Soil Fertility Laboratory of FakultasPertanian USU in March-August 2013, used Randomized Block Design (RBD) factorial consistingof 2 factors and 4 replications. The first factor was phosphate solubilizing fungi inoculationconsisting of 2 treatments (with and without inoculation) and the second factor was mycorrhizaeapplication consisting of 3 treatments (0, 10, 20 g/polybag). Parameters observed were soil pH,P-availability, C-organic, plant height, stem diameter, shoot dry weight, root weight, P-absorption,100 seeds dry weight, mycorrhizae infection and phosphate solubilizing fungi population. Theresult showed that phosphate solubilizing fungi inoculation significantly affected phosphatesolubilizing fungi population and not affected others parameters, however it increased plant growthand production. Mycorrhizae application decreased soil pH, stem diameter, and increasedmycorrhizae infection significantly. Mycorrhizae application dose of 10 g mycorrhizae resulted thehighest plant height, shoot dry weight, highest P-absorbtion, 100 seeds dry weight but decreasedC-organic and P availability.Keywords: phosphate solubilizing fungi, mycorrhizae, alkaline soil, maize

Abstract

Puar tenangau is a herbal plant of Zingeberaceae that from Thailand. The Plant has a big potential aspharmacy and traditional medicines, but the spread of this plant was unknown well in Indonesia even soneeded a conservation for this plant. In vitro conservation is a one of alternative. Treatment of periodsubculture is one way to get the explants with optimal growth.The research aimed to determine theappropriate sub culture period to obtain the micropropagation of Puar Tenangau (Elettariopsis sp.) the best asplantlets. The research was carried out in Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory, Department of Agroecotechnology, Faculty ofAgriculture, University of North Sumatera, Medan from November 2012 to August 2013. The research used CompletelyRandomized Design with 1 (one) factor that sub culture period with 4 (four) treatment , which are : 0 week, 2 weeks, 4 weeks,and 6 weeks after culturing from 10 weeks of incubation. The result showed that subculture period not givevaffected on the percentage of explant growt, leaves number, and plant length.Key words : micropopagation, Elettariopsis sp., subculture period

Abstract

The objective of this research is to know the influencing of the Husk-pulp compost of Duriozibethinus to Typic Hydraquent, Umbrik Dystrudept, dan Typic Kandiudult on some the soilfertility aspect (pH, C organic, and N total) and the maize production. The experiment wasconducted at the green house, at Laboratory of Chemistry and Soil Fertility, and Research andTechnology Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sumatera Utara, Medan. Groun planof experiment was maked agree with Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 2 factors and 3replications, namely durio husk-pulp compost consist which of 5 levels: D0 (0 g), D1 (109,5 g), D2(219 g), D3 (328,5 g), D4 (438 g) and soil’s ordos, which consist of 3 levels, that are: T1 (TypicHydraquent), T2 (Umbrik Dystrudept), dan T3 (Typic Kandiudult), and 3 replications to meet 45experimental units.The results of this research showed that the increasing bend of Typic Hydraquentwas been the highest of them because of the increasing of the durio husk-pulp compost’s doses, theincreasing bend of Typic Hydraquent, Umbrik Dystrudept, and Typic Kandiudult’s C organic werebeen same relativy because of the increasing of the durio husk-pulp compost’s doses, the increasingbend of Umbrik Dystrudept and Typic Kandiudult’s N total were been same relativy because of theincreasing of the durio husk-pulp compost’s doses, except to the increasing bend of TypicHydraquent’s N total, and maize dry-weights in Typic Hydraquent, Umbrik Dystrudept, and TypicKandiudult are several increase until the same doses.

Abstract

Growing media fertility can be improved or enhanced with inorganic or organic fertilizer, such asboiler ash, which is one type of solid waste by-product of palm oil mills as well as the source ofnitrogen urea fertilizer, is expected to boost growth of cocoa seedling in the nursery. This researchhad been conducted at experimental field of Fakultas Pertanian USU in May 2013 until September2013, using factorial randomized block design with two factor. The first factor was dose of boiler ash(0, 100, 10 g/polybag) and the second factor was dose of urea fertilizer (0, 5, and 10 g/polybag).Parameter observed were plant height, total of leaf area, dry shoot weight and dry root weight.Theresult showed response of boiler ash on cocoa seed significantly increase total of leaf area and dryshoot weight. Urea fertilizer significantly affect dry shoot weight. Interaction of both significantlyaffect dry shoot weight. The best results from interaction boiler ash and urea fertilizer were obtainedin the treatment of boiler ash at 300 g/polybag and urea fertilizer 5 g/polybag.________________________________________________________________________________Keywords: Boiler Ash, Urea Fertilizer, Cocoa Seed

Abstract

The Application of Solid and Liquid Organic Fertilizer of Banana Kepok Bark on the Growth andYield of Mustard (Brassica juncea L.). The research aimed to know differences in growth responseand yield of mustard in various dose of solid and liquid organic fertilizer from banana kepok barkand the interaction of both factors. The research was carried out in the home screen, Agriculture’sFaculty of North Sumatera University from August to Oktober 2013. The experiment design wasFactorial Randomized Block design (FRB) with two factors and three replications. The first factorwas the solid organic fertilizer dose consist of four levels are 0 , 30 , 60 and 90 g/plant. The secondfactor was a liquid organic fertilizer dose are 0 , 25 , 45 and 65 ml/plant/application. The resultsshowed that the solid organic fertilizer give significant effect on lower the plant height 15 daysafter transplanting and the total of leaf area on 30 days after transplanting. The liquid organicfertilizer significant effect on lower plant height 11 , 19 , 23 , and 27 days after transplanting, dryweight of plant on 30 days after transplanting, the plant yield per sample and yield per plot on 40days after transplanting. The interaction of both significantly on parameter plant height 7 days aftertransplanting and the best result treatment is solid organic fertilizer 30 g/plant without liquidorganic fertilizer.Keywords: Solid Organic, Mustard, Bark of Banana

Abstract

To study the growth and yield of soybean under of oilpalm age four years at PTPN III KebunRambutan, a research has been done in February to May 2012. The design used was random plotdesign with two treatment. The first factor are varieties (Anjasmoro and Nanti) and the secondfactor are planting system (Square and Hexagonal planting system).The result showed that varietieshas significant effect of the plants length at 3, 4, 5, and 6 weeks after planting (WAP), amount ofleafs, age of flowering, weight of dry branches, production per plot, and amount of 100 seeds. Theplanting system has only influence of amount of 100 seeds. There was no interaction between thetwo treatments that was observed for all parameters.Keywords: soybean, planting system, and variety.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the suitability of land in Muara North Tapanuli for rainfed paddyfields. Based on a map of soil type and slope maps generated from topographic maps with a scaleof 1: 50,000, then be overlaid. Raised 3 LMU(Land Map Unit) are eligible to be assessed for rainfedpaddy crop. The assessment of land suitability classes with appropriateness rainfed paddy fieldscriteria is based on Djaenuddin, et al., 2011. The results showed that the potential land suitabilityclass LMU 1 isN (rc), potential land suitability class LMU 2 is S3 (tc), potential land suitabilityclass LMU 3 is S3 (tc, rc). Potential land area for rainfed paddy fields in the district of Muara is of1844 hectares.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research purposed to know the influence of the straw ricew treatmeant and the NPK fertilizerdosage to the chemical nature growth and the field rice production (Oriza Sativa L) to the soil fieldwith the SRI (System of Rice Intensification) system. This research do in Air Hitam village, LimaPuluh Sub District and analyzed in chemical and fertilizer laboratory Agriculture Faculty,University North Sumatera. This research using the draft of separate plot with the main slot of therice straw treatment on the J0 (The rest of the straw left), J1 (straw cleared and embedded), J2(Leftover straw immersed in tripe + manure) and on the sub plot of F0 (without fertilizer). F1 (doseof fertilizer NPK 50%), F2 (dose of fertilizer NPK 100%). From the research result of the strawtreatment influence to the C-organic, total N, P-available, K-exchanged soil, high of plant, numberof filler in the grain weight but not influence to the pH soil and grain weight. The fertilizertreatment influence to the plant hight and the grain weight but not in influence to the pH, C-organic, total N, K-exchanged soil, grain weigh. While the interaction between the straw treatment and thefertilizer treatment only influence the P available.Key words :SRI, straw of rice, NPK fertilizer

Abstract

The presence of weeds in the cultivation of maize PRG C7 tolerant to glyphosate herbicide face theproblem of decline in maize production . The spraying of glyphosate herbicide can suppress weeds ,and is expected to increase the growth and production of maize in cultivation . Research conductedat Balai Benih Induk Tanaman Palawija crop field , Tanjung Selamat , Kecamatan sunggal,, NorthSumatra on March-July 2013, using a randomized block design (RBD ) with four types of nonfactorialmethod of weed control treatments and 4 replications . The parameters measured wereplant height , number of leaves , leaf length , leaf width , stem diameter , high productive cob,number of productive cob , cob length , cob diameter , cob weight klobot , klobot ear length , earweight without klobot , number of seeds per cob shelled , shelledgrain weight per ear, dry weight of 100 seeds,water content.
